Tattoos on hands - trashy or ok?

So long story short. I broke my wrist and will be needing a surgery. Will end up with a visible scar. I started contemplating getting a tattoo to cover it up. Please tell me - good idea or a bad idea?

I work in an office and have a large one on my arm and hand. Never had no problems professionally and I love them!

Biancadelrioisback · 11/09/2020 19:49

I really like them so I would

but do you have to hide your scar? I've got lots of scars from a combination of DV and self harming. I've got a particularly ugly one on my arm which is all raised and purple. At first loads of people told me to get a tattoo to cover it or always wear long sleeves and then I thought.... Why?
It's my body, it's the journey I've been on, and it's a part of me.
I love my tattoos but I have them because of I want to outwardly express myself, not to hide something.

Perhaps just try living with your scar before you commit to anything? You might find that you feel you don't need to hide it and you can get a tattoo where you want one.

Why are you so concerned about having a visible scar? I have loads of them from surgery, most very visible, and it's never been an issue.

Mandalalorianna · 11/09/2020 19:50

I've got scars and tattoos but not a tattoo on a scar, the thought makes my toes curl Shock

Aquamarine1029 · 11/09/2020 19:51

Also, in a year or two, the scars fade dramatically.

JadesRollerDisco · 11/09/2020 19:52

Tattoos on scars fade really fast! And can be much more painful. I like tattoos and think if it doesn't effect your work or life then go for it.

LUZON · 11/09/2020 19:52

Are you sure your scar will be bad. I’ve broken both wrists and needed surgery on each and the scars are long but they are tiny lines.

I don’t like tattoos on hand but I don’t notice them unless they are ugly or rude or something.

PeaceAndHarmoneeee · 11/09/2020 19:53

I work in recruitment - sadly some people do judge (sometimes unconsciously ) when they see visible tattoos.

PinkyBrain · 11/09/2020 19:53

Noooooo.

TrickyD · 11/09/2020 19:57

Bad and trashy.
Nothing wrong with a scar. Plenty wrong with a tattoo.

jessstan2 · 11/09/2020 19:58

Very trashy.

I'm not surprised, your second paragraph gives us a clear picture of your working environment.

Quite agree.

Not surprising. Why people have to deface themselves in that way I will never understand.
Ginfordinner · 11/09/2020 20:03

What's wrong with a scar?

Pinkvici22 · 11/09/2020 20:05

Terrible idea.

I broke my wrist and have a terrible scar - I wear a watch or a bracelet stack.

Toobe · 11/09/2020 20:06

No

MazDazzle · 11/09/2020 20:07

I’d be careful about getting a tattoo where it would be (mostly) visible.

I got my first few tattoos when I was very young and now they are hideous - they are dated and have faded and blurred dramatically. I’ve had to get them covered up with bigger tattoos. I’m so glad they aren’t anywhere obvious.

That said, if I had 10 years left to live I’d cover myself in them! Grin

Smallsteps88 · 11/09/2020 20:08

Unless you have beautiful, modelesque photogenic hands with perfectly manicured nails then they look trashy. Most tattoos do. And I say this as someone with tattoos.

IHateCoronavirus · 11/09/2020 20:10

Scars indicate a survivor to me. A life lived. They are something to be respected. You will be just as beautiful with your scars, and even more interesting. Good luck for the surgery op Flowers

forgetthehousework · 11/09/2020 20:11

Nothing wrong with a scar and they do tend to fade with age, while tattoos get indistinct with age.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 11/09/2020 20:11

I have 8 tattoos and have a professional job. Nobodies ever mentioned it. I have, however, got them in places that can be hidden in case I come across any of the bellend types on this thread and they decide to put a stop on my career.

Showandtell1 · 11/09/2020 20:13

Imo all tattoos are trashy. I have never ever seen one which looks good

Saffzy · 11/09/2020 20:13

My personal opinion is trashy but that’s just me and it’s your body. I would wait a few years (and from other posters it suggests you probably have to wait anyway) and see how you feel then.
