What is the most unusual street or road name you have seen? If you live on a street with an unusual name do people comment on it?

"Chemistry" in Whitchurch (Cheshire) is a favourite of mine!

City of Dan. Such a strange road name!

MrsSchadenfreude · 26/08/2020 11:50

Also Bellenden Road in Peckham.

wheeltrims · 26/08/2020 11:55

Every Street, my FIL always used to trot out the line "I've been down Every Street in Manchester" every time we went anywhere near it.

wheeltrims · 26/08/2020 11:56

My parents also used to live on a street called Wild Ridings in Fareham. Very Jilly Cooper-esque

x2boys · 26/08/2020 12:21

StichMi Lane near Bolton ,and I'm surprised nobody,s mentioned the town of Ramsbottom near Bury.

LadyCatStark · 26/08/2020 12:23

We have to drive down Kilcrash Lane regularly which doesn’t fill us with confidence!

Our nearest Sainsbury’s is on Ainsley Harriott Way, which is a very specific name 😂.

LadyCatStark · 26/08/2020 12:36

I’ve also just googled Ainsley Harriott and it doesn't bring up any connection to Garstang which makes the road name even odder 🤷‍♀️.

Even if Ainsley had been born/brought up/lived in Garstang, it's still highly unusual to name a road after a living person, unless they're royal. It's normally done as a tribute to a loved/influential celebrity or member of the community who has since died. Unless there was another famous person, now deceased, of the same name?!

Wouldn't you be totally weirded out and feel very awkward travelling down a road named after yourself? Except probably the section of the A52 now called Brian Clough Way. I imagine Old Big 'Ead would have been quite pleased to frequently drive up and down 'his' road whilst very much alive, nodding his big head in approval and saying "Just as it should be, just as it should be!" Grin.

There's a Wild Ridings in Bracknell as well.

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll

Bedford has a new(ish) bypass called Paula Radcliffe Way and she’s alive and well AFAIK

Lexilooo · 26/08/2020 13:21

We have a Knob Lane near here, complete with a Knob Cottage and a Knob Farm

AdoptedBumpkin · 26/08/2020 13:22

Sorry if it was already mentioned - but Jeffries Passage in Guildford springs to mind.

AdoptedBumpkin · 26/08/2020 13:25

There is also a Cock Alley and Deepsick Lane both near Chesterfield.

tangycalligrapher · 26/08/2020 13:27

@munchbunch12

How about Bell End and Lickey End, both villages in Worcestershire (I know, they're not streets, strictly speaking)?
Not to mention Wyre Piddle!
Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 26/08/2020 13:28

I love near Nob End.

I'm a bit Terry Pratchett fan and would love to live in Wincanton where lots of streets are named after places in Discworld, Treacle Mine Road being my favourite.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 26/08/2020 13:29

Live not love!! 😂

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 26/08/2020 13:38

Ooh, maybe it's a new thing, then. Let's hope she never gets suddenly caught short when travelling along it Grin

pinkmagic1 · 26/08/2020 17:09

Twospaniels, there is a a road called Willow Wong in Burton Joyce in Nottinghamshire too. I have always thought it unusual too. Sounds like the name of a Chinese takeaway!

WildRosie · 26/08/2020 17:34

I live very near Football in Yeadon. I'm pushing fifty and that giant football has been there as long as I can remember. I sometimes wonder if the owner of the wall it's painted on has some sort of obligation to maintain it or if it's sponsored by a business, or even maintained by Leeds City Council.

Less interesting but equally peculiar street names in this general area are Golden Butts Road in Ilkley and Doctor Laithe in Threshfield.

MotherofPearl · 27/08/2020 15:17

Prince of Wales Passage near Euston.

I drove along Straight Road the other day, and it wasn't even straight.

Alwaystheoddoneout · 27/08/2020 15:35

Crooked Usage isn't straight either. Great name.
