What is the most unusual street or road name you have seen? If you live on a street with an unusual name do people comment on it?

"Chemistry" in Whitchurch (Cheshire) is a favourite of mine!

There's Ingle Pingle near us, which I love!

StripeyDeckchair · 25/08/2020 22:05

I used to regularly pass a house called Walter's Gift

I'm sure theres a (hopefully) lovely story behind it.

We happened upon a Rua de Penis in Galicia, Spain a couple of years ago.

Dogpool Lane in Birmingham apparently has a round-the-clock rota for volunteers with more white paint to strike as soon as the council gets around to removing the painted over final letter.

There's an old folks' home on St Peter's Close in Howden!

There's a road in an affluent village just outside Redditch called 'Poverty'. No Road/Street/Lane etc - just that one word. It's not all that far from another street in another extremely well-to-do area on the fringes of Birmingham called Twatling Road.

I was going to note Rednaxela Terrace in Hong Kong. I also used to go past Fook Hing Rattan Co on the way to work (it might even have been called Fook Hing Good Rattan Co) and we never worked out if it was tongue in cheek or not. (It was in WanChai).

There's a road called Wogan Terrace in Saundersfoot, which I always thought should have been 'Wogan, Terence' !

cheeseychovolate · 25/08/2020 22:17

Poets Chase in Aylesbury

Hong Kong seems to be particularly generous in this area. There's also a district of HK after which an Oriental restaurant in Toronto is named: 'Shatin Chinese Food'.

There's also a thoroughfare in Jerusalem called Shatner Street!

MaverickDanger · 25/08/2020 22:20

I sent a parcel recently to someone who’s street name was Butters.

Not Butters Lane or Close, just Butters.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 25/08/2020 22:21

Actually, a stone's throw from Twatling Road is Mearse Lane. I like to think that Ricky Tomlinson owns a holiday home there!

ifigoup · 25/08/2020 22:22

Scratch Face Lane near Exeter
Lushington Close in Norwich

catfeets · 25/08/2020 22:23

We used to pass a pocket handkerchief lane a lot when I was a kid and I always thought it was an unusual and lovely name.

TheHighestSardine · 25/08/2020 22:33

There's a Bell End Lane a few villages over, with Bell End Farm on it. I occasionally wonder what they grow.

Street Road is an oddity.

I used to drive past Honeypot Lane Industrial Estate, didn't seem to have any plumbase or the like though.

And there's a bunch of streets one village over with women's names. One of them is Fanny Street. Colleague used to live there, and she got asked if she was joking a lot when giving out their address.

OhTheRoses · 25/08/2020 22:33

Within a mile of us: Mongers Lane.

VeggieSausageRoll · 25/08/2020 22:34

Annaly road in Cheddar always makes me chuckle

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 25/08/2020 22:37

As an aside
Old Bailey is the name of the road that contains the Central Criminal Court.

Chameleon2003 · 25/08/2020 22:37

Pineapple Road.... it's in Birmingham 😂

TheWoollybacksWife · 25/08/2020 22:41

There's a road in Wellingborough called Ultra Close.

ilovepixie · 25/08/2020 22:42

Semicock road in Ballymoney Northern Ireland.
The village of Muff in Ireland has a diving club!

MustBeThursday · 25/08/2020 22:43

Needless Alley in Birmingham City Centre and Normal Terrace in Cheltenham always have me a giggle

thenightsky · 25/08/2020 22:45

@WarmSausageTea

I’ve passed by Fanny Hands Lane a few times. I assume it’s named after a local character, but a google search for Fanny Hands didn’t go well.
Oh my goodness. I came on to say Fanny Hands Lane! I pass it every day on my commute.
