What is the most unusual street or road name you have seen? If you live on a street with an unusual name do people comment on it?

"Chemistry" in Whitchurch (Cheshire) is a favourite of mine!

Fanny Hands Lane in Market Rasen

Twospaniels · 25/08/2020 21:17

@DeRigueurMortis
Belvoir Castle is near where I live and the correct local pronunciation is Beaver. Although in Bedford where I grew up there is a Belvoir Walk which everyone pronounces Bell Vwaar.

How about Labour In Vain Drove in Lincs, and a village called Mavis Enderby which always makes me think of Mavis in Coronation Street!

@JumpingFrogs

There's a Shaggy Calf Lane in Slough Smile
I was coming on to say there’s a Roast Calf Lane near my parents Grin

Surprised no-one has mentioned Gropecunt Lane...

Nixen · 25/08/2020 21:21

There’s a ‘fighting cocks lane’ near me, which is a shame as I have seen nice houses for sale there but I wouldn’t buy them!

Nixen · 25/08/2020 21:22

Also Cockburn street in Edinburgh
(Pronounced co-burn)

MrsMoastyToasty · 25/08/2020 21:24

There's a Johnny Ball Lane in Bristol. I wonder if Zoe's dad has been there....

Loveden · 25/08/2020 21:25

Drove down "Betty Haunt Lane" when we were on holiday on the Isle of Wight last month!

HooseDilemma · 25/08/2020 21:29

I used to live in a village where you drove in past Flesh Hovel Lane and out through Slash Lane. It was a lovely place, honest!

LurkyDeLurk94 · 25/08/2020 21:30

Shoot-Up Hill in north London!

ThousandCows · 25/08/2020 21:31

Stippy Stappy. In Cornwall, I think...

Rufus27 · 25/08/2020 21:32

There’s an Inner Ting Tong and Outer Ting Tong in Devon. Always makes me smile.

munchbunch12 · 25/08/2020 21:33

How about Bell End and Lickey End, both villages in Worcestershire (I know, they're not streets, strictly speaking)?

Tom Tit Lane in Maldon, Cripple Street in Maidstone (which leads on to Teasaucer Hill), French Ordinary Court in London, Dumb Woman Road (or Lane? Can't remember) in Rye.

EggysMom · 25/08/2020 21:38

Many towns and cities have an Every Road or an Every Street, but it still gives me a giggle. I grew up saying "You won't believe this but there's a fountain on every street in Leicester" Grin

We used to pass that occassionally, it always intrigued me.

There’s a Rightox Road, Bare Bones Road and a Little Cake (Street name) not far from
me. And Carsick Hill in Sheffield is very twisty and lives up to it’s name!

Halfstonehomerun · 25/08/2020 21:39

There’s a road named Football in Yeadon, Leeds. Not Football road or avenue or lane, just Football. And the end house has a giant football on it!

Unusual street/road names..
Lozza70 · 25/08/2020 21:39

Peg O the Bull Lane in Enniskillen has always amused me...

Halfstonehomerun · 25/08/2020 21:40

It’s not near the LUFC ground either!

BikeRunSki · 25/08/2020 21:40

Sorry, the places in my last post are all around Holmfirth.

There’s also Johnny Moor Long Lane near Thorne in S Yorks which intrigues me.

EggyPegg · 25/08/2020 21:43

There's an alley called Lovers Lane near me. It's far from it. And two hamlets within a 10 minute drive. One is called The Shoe. The other is called Tiddlywink.
We also live near Box and my DH sniggers at 'entering Box'.

MissBridgetJones · 25/08/2020 21:44

Bell End. Yes, I am that immature.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 25/08/2020 21:51
