What is the most unusual street or road name you have seen? If you live on a street with an unusual name do people comment on it?

"Chemistry" in Whitchurch (Cheshire) is a favourite of mine!

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll

Dogpool Lane in Birmingham apparently has a round-the-clock rota for volunteers with more white paint to strike as soon as the council gets around to removing the painted over final letter.

There's an old folks' home on St Peter's Close in Howden!

There's a road in an affluent village just outside Redditch called 'Poverty'. No Road/Street/Lane etc - just that one word. It's not all that far from another street in another extremely well-to-do area on the fringes of Birmingham called Twatling Road.

Ah nuts!! Was about to mention Dogpool Lane...

I also live near Sarehole Mill which often has amusing anagrams painted on/over signs.

Hasn't a road in Bristol recently been called "Cheers Drive"?

mycauldronisleaky · 25/08/2020 22:57

Cocking Lane

Merry Meeting at Fairy Cross in Devon.

Bell End was a street in the next village from us when we lived near Northampton.

Also, drove past a Turkey Cock Lane the other day that brought a chuckle to us.

We have an Endless Street and a Wain-a-long Road.

Llamados (sod'am all backwards) in St. George's Telford.

Manolin · 26/08/2020 01:48

A1 always gets me. A long wide road the runs north out of London. So simple!

I used to live in Seoul on a street called Jeongja Road - Jeongja means sperm.

(It also means pagoda, but my middle school students ripped the piss out of me anyway.)

In Nottingham there's an Electric Avenue - I sing the song when I pass it in the car

Standrewsschool · 26/08/2020 07:30

In a village near Sittingbourne, there’s a Blind Mary’s lane. That used to make me feel sad. Who was Blind Mary to have a rural lane named after her. I imagined a poor old lady, living by herself in this lane, who the local villagers were slightly scared of.

The one in the song is in Brixton, S London. First street in London to be fully lit by electric street lamps, or something along those lines.

Signs for Uckington near me get a lot of vandalism. The council leave very small gaps at the start..

Twospaniels · 26/08/2020 08:26

Lemon Wong Lane in Lincs. It’s an old lane that now doesn’t go anywhere and is a public footpath.
The primary school at Southwell, Notts, is called Lowes Wong. I wonder where the Wong comes from in both of those.
There’s a little hamlet called Skinnand which always makes me think of an abbatoir or something where they skin animals ☹️

Nothing amusing or unusual about Craven Mews in London - until it's 'corrected' Grin

This road has its own Wikipedia page! Now sadly renamed Archers Way, as the residents were sick of tourists, receiving prank calls and having companies believe them to be pranksters when they called a taxi or asked for a delivery.

Cul De Sac.
Just that. Nothing else. Always wondered who called it that and why they fight go for something a bit nicer.

Beckenham close makes me smile as well.

SidesteppinTheRona · 26/08/2020 10:17

Surprised no one has mentioned Bellenden Gardens in Edinburgh! Look at the shape of it...
