Does your name have a song associated with it?

Do people sing it to you?

I have a name that has at least two songs associated with it. One less known than the other but I have occasionally had someone sing it to me. As a child I regularly had someone sing more famous song to me but now I, thankfully, rarely have to experience that. It's more irritating than infuriating but I don't understand why people do it.

Yes and I love it/them!

TimeStoleMyYouth · 16/08/2020 22:11

My Grandma’s neighbour always used to sing a song about my name, but he was the only one who did. I just looked it up and it was a big summer hit thirty years before I was born.

NameChange84 · 16/08/2020 22:19

I only found out last year but, yes I do! Two songs My name is quite unusual and not English and there’s a song from the sixties and one from an Indie band from the 00s. Very strange to be serenaded by men in their 30s and 60/70s who knew these songs!

Got two timed with a Jolene many many years ago too PMSL. Her beauty wasn’t really “beyond compare” though lol and she did me a favour in all honesty. Couldn’t help but be the other woman with a name like that could you? Grin

therhubarbbrothers · 16/08/2020 22:21

@Sakura7

Oh yes. It's a very old American country/minstrel song. I used to get it all the time as a child, not sure if it's so well known now.

Clues: Alabama, banjo, knee

I know it well. Clue for mine: miners and fruit
Sakura7 · 16/08/2020 22:22

Actually I just remembered another one - I'm friends with a couple who are originally from Romania, and they invited me over with them once when they went back to visit. On several occasions when they introduced me to friends I had a famous (apparently) Romanian song sung at me.

My name is actually pretty unusual so it's funny that I have two songs!

Graphista · 16/08/2020 22:28

@1970schild no, it's more of a country dancing type deal for the non Scots - "social dancing" for the Scots - think the scene in four weddings where Gareth goes "its bloody brigadoon"!!!

Sakura7 · 16/08/2020 22:33

@Graphista Starts with an E and ends with an N?

@therhubarbbrothers I have no idea (even after a google)

I'm apparently a fruity darling Grin

sn0wdr0p4 · 16/08/2020 22:43

Yes, a fairly obscure song by Wings. Nobody has ever sung it at me because nobody has heard of it!

FlippinNoah · 16/08/2020 22:44

Mine's by a band that gathers no moss...

Dablikeacrap · 16/08/2020 22:46

I have a Kiki. EVERYONE sings ‘Kiki do you love me?!’ to her

Trenisenne · 16/08/2020 22:50

@KeeefBurtain

Quite a few. I'm a not choosy floozy with kaleidoscope eyes.
I think we share a name. It's only one that's really famous, though?
Whatthebloodyell · 16/08/2020 22:51

@BikeRunSki are you also
A camel with 5/4/3/2/1/0 humps? 😁

Meandyouandyouandme · 16/08/2020 22:52

@AKAanothername does your name begin with R? My eldest DD is also called this if so. I was a big Lenny Kravitz fan when she was born. My name is in a Beatles song and guess what, my mum liked The Beatles Grin

MintyCedric · 16/08/2020 22:56

Oh yes, the most well known one currently enjoying a certain amount of notoriety as the singer/songwriter rewrote the lyrics for the covid pandemic ConfusedGrin

Ratonastick · 16/08/2020 22:58

Named for an 18th century poem by Alexander Pope. Then along came The Damned.......

peakygal · 16/08/2020 22:59

Yes and I was named after said song. DM was very disappointed it didn't reach number one that year. Beaten by Fergal Sharkey 😂

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 16/08/2020 23:03

There's a Beatles song called my name but most people haven't heard of it, so I am spared.

PissPotPourri · 16/08/2020 23:06

roundtwotooto and drdavidbanner I fear we are NOT name triplets. I do not give hope to anyone. When people sing that they love me it is not Kool and the Gang but Ricky Balance.

AbyssusAbyssumInvocat · 16/08/2020 23:08

A dean martin/Frank Sinatra crooner.

Once in love with Amy. Actually not a bad song. I've made it my theme tune as suggested by the psychiatrist in ally mcbeal.

20 years ago the local pub landlord used to sing it to me every time I entered. I thought he made it up but googled it a few months ago and alas... it's real.

whataballbag · 16/08/2020 23:11

Both my name and my family nickname for me have a song.

One says I've got storms brewing in my eyes, and the other one says I taste of cherryade Grin

HexyAndIKnowIt · 16/08/2020 23:11

I went to school with a Layla. I was extremely jealous.

There are a few songs and a band with my name. As a teen an ex had my name tattooed on his arm (stupid boy). Years later he'd changed it to a famous song name, along with the image that went with it. Clever I thought.

DD was named for a Beatles song but only I ever really sang that to her, bit lost on her age group.

Wacadu · 16/08/2020 23:12

Yes, by the Rolling Stones.

AbyssusAbyssumInvocat · 16/08/2020 23:13

I used to know a girl called Rio. She was born late 80's maybe early 90s.

Poor thing couldn't go anywhere...

whataballbag · 16/08/2020 23:15

@unagisamonskinroll you are so a Layla!
