Do people sing it to you?

I have a name that has at least two songs associated with it. One less known than the other but I have occasionally had someone sing it to me. As a child I regularly had someone sing more famous song to me but now I, thankfully, rarely have to experience that. It's more irritating than infuriating but I don't understand why people do it.

No but I was named after a member of a famous 80s girl band Grin

IndieTara · 16/08/2020 23:17

There are 3 songs Iknow of with my name featured prominently. None of them are very recent so I only tend to get one of them sung to me occasionally.

Ohjustboreoff · 16/08/2020 23:27

All I can say is fuck you Eddy Grant and fuck off Kool and the gang!!!

squashyhat · 16/08/2020 23:28

A Beatles song but not in the context of it being a person's name - more a street...

powershowerforanhour · 16/08/2020 23:29

Yes - sung at me by drunks frequently in my youth- and I called my daughter a name that had two different songs- one rather pathetic and the other annoyingly warbly. I actually did a Google check before I named her, thought grand, I've never heard of those songs so nobody else will either. Wrong.

user127819 · 16/08/2020 23:55

Enko · 16/08/2020 23:56

No but elderly people remember a singer with my rare unisex name. Thankfully that's rare nowadays

NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 17/08/2020 00:06

Mine is in songs by Paulo Nutuni, The Killers & J-Lo have had them all sung to me over the years usually by eejits trying to be annoying

Cheekychops73 · 17/08/2020 00:44

I'm another with Barry Manilow / Westlife crooning about me my youngest requests it frequently on Alexa because he knows it annoys me immensely due to years of being subjected to it by family, friends and anyone half cut. @Graphista I think I know your name ( Fellow Scot) you must be very proud 😜

Graphista · 17/08/2020 02:19

@Sakura7 I think you're thinking of an 80's pop song by an Irish band?

@Cheekychops73 you may have I can't tell from your reply. Not proud bloody annoyed!

UsernameNotValid · 17/08/2020 02:38

Yes.

In the late early 00's as a teen tomboy who hung around with mainly boys and having a rather youthful looking Mum it drove me absolutely nuts - drunk people still bloody sing it to me every now and then 🙄

JoeExoticandtheTigers · 17/08/2020 03:09

Is your name spelt the same way as the song name or does it have the double letter?
Bloodylush · 17/08/2020 03:53

There’s a 1960s song with my name and exh’s name in. Fortunately it’s so old now people don’t know it.

BikeRunSki · 17/08/2020 06:07

@Whatthebloodyell - that’s me.

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 17/08/2020 06:38

Tons!
There were five that I knew of - I'm in the title of a song by Eric Clapton, one by Lou Reed, also a song sung by various blues bands including The Commitments (a car + my name), I'm in the lyrics of a song by Oasis plus also an old song that all the boys used to sing to me at school about sneaking me down an alley.

Just googled it though and are 31 songs with my name in!!!!

CaptainMyCaptain · 17/08/2020 07:20

Once a jolly swagman....?

CaptainMyCaptain · 17/08/2020 07:21

@therhubarbbrothers

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 17/08/2020 07:22

Yes. Not the name that's on my birth certificate but my nick name (which most people call me). Men especially think it's hilarious when drunk.
