@KnobChops oh no poor dd ... I had a piercing on Thursday & they take temperatures - their max is 37.5 - I had a chat with the studio manager about how unreliable it is (uncalibrated, unreliable sign anyway etc - I’m a medic!) ... also that people could just take a couple of paracetamol an hour before & they’d never know. Anyway as someone prone to flushing (peri menopause!) I had a moan, he sort of agreed with me & but their main reason for doing it is to reassure people 🤷‍♀️ ... I arrive at temperature checking places half an hour early with a bottle of iced water!
@torydeathdrug I know! There was no arguing with them, plus was too damn hot. It was a proper tattoo parlour too. Next time I’m dosing her with paracetamol and a bottle of iced water- good tip! Hopefully the heatwave will also be done by then.

How wonderful to find a thread without a load of whining entitlement. Please can I stay for a bit while I recover from some of the toxic posts elsewhere?

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 08/08/2020 20:04

@forgetthehousework welcome! Put your feet up, stay a while. Aubergines optional.

Willow2017 · 08/08/2020 20:08

Thanks every cpeeps. Am playing old records very loud but ds's seem to have prob with that. It's ok that they keep me awake in wee small hours with playing online gaming.

Just realised ex has paid less than half of his pittance of child maintenance in last year and ì have sacrificed 10 years of my life keeping roof over our heads while ex got on with making a new family at the expense of of ours. My boys are my life but I think it's time i
I got some life back .
Just feeling sorry for myself and guzzling wine.

Willow2017 · 08/08/2020 20:15

Have had ds1 telling me I haven't had 10 yrs on my own but he spends all his time online chatting to friends They have no idea because its my responsibility to protect and fight for my kids

ineedaholidaynow · 08/08/2020 20:19

Can you challenge the child maintenance @Willow2017?

MaxNormal · 08/08/2020 20:20

So I'm signed up to do YouGov surveys. Today's one was gauging public opinion on having to walk through some airlock thing that sprays you with antiviral stuff before entering various places.
I was horrified and said so.

It's also surely complete nonsense someone could come in with covid, be nicely disinfected but then.... breathe.

Polkadotties · 08/08/2020 20:29

@MaxNormal I thought exactly the same when I heard about the spraying machines. The virus is airborne so how will being sprayed reduce transmission?!

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 08/08/2020 20:30

We went into town for a closing down sale at one of our favourite stores- and it was very busy everywhere.

I'm very much covid central and following all the rules where I am.

Just taken the male flowers of our cucumber plants so we don't end up with bitter cucumbers - this is following advice from several family members who garden regularly - just read BBC gardening advice as as they're outdoor we apparently shouldn't have as they need both to get fruit ie cucumber.

Very confused now - anyone grown cucumbers outdoors in a garden - should we just leave them be now?

TheCatsBlanket · 08/08/2020 20:32

A long time lurker for the most part, but thank god for the AD threads. Thanks to whoever started them up :)

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 08/08/2020 20:34

Those spraying machines sound daft for covid - people will be shedding the virus if infected once inside the building.

Saw stats for my area and apparently in entrie city there are two known cases of covid 19 so I don't think we'd need spraying machines. Distance and hand washing seem to be working here.

I was talking about skin conditions caused by face masks today and risks of things like sepsis (if an adult gets impetigo) and the answer was gobsmacking.

"there is a cure for sepsis, there isnt for Covid 19"

the level of stupid just got a notch higher.

Was she dismissing sepsis as something that can be cured so it doesnt really matter if you get it. Hmm

Or was she saying the only sepsis that matters is if you get it as a result of Covid.

The jury is out!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 08/08/2020 20:39

Checking in for some sanity!

Drivingdownthe101 · 08/08/2020 20:39

Well I was ‘cured’ of sepsis after a week in intensive care on IV antibiotics, and was horrifically exhausted for 6 months afterwards... so yeah, it’s a walk in the park!

amicissimma · 08/08/2020 20:40

Oh goodness, I've just seen the voting on the prison thread in AIBU. Someone tell me I've interpreted it the wrong way round. Please.

NannyPhlegm · 08/08/2020 20:42

So lovely to see all the new Anti Dementors. Welcome all!

None of us have ever denied the existence of Covid. It's ridiculous that that's the only weapon they have in their arsenal to try to malign us. The malakas

My dad died from sepsis at 68. They can fuck off with it being curable.
HeIenaDove · 08/08/2020 20:54

@NothingIsWrong Im sorry to hear that Flowers

Bollss · 08/08/2020 20:57

I'm not a covid denier. I believe it's real, I believe it's spreading, bla bla bla. What I don't believe is everything I read in the newspaper. And I don't believe in being terrified by something that realistically has a very tiny tiny chance of hurting or killing me.

Also glandular fever made me very ill and I actually do have the magical lasting damage that people are drooling over re covid and guess what? Nobody cares about that.

So meh. If I get covid and have lasting conditions I'll deal with it.

If I die I die. I was the one in a million or whatever and yes it will be incredibly shit for my family but it would be no matter how I died.

Equally I am social distancing (mostly - let's be realistic here) though I have never been someone who gets up close and personal with strangers anyway. I wear a mask at the shops and I resent every single fucking second of it but I still bloody well do it.

I dunno where that puts me. Generally law abiding but pretty fucking fed up.

I have a slight feeling it's all been a tad of an over reaction if I'm completely honest.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 08/08/2020 21:02

Love aubergine. Roast them until the skins go crispy, mash up the insides and stick a dollop of bog/chilli on top.

Penis? Meh. Can take it or leave it. Although I’ve got an ex like @Willow2017 and it put me right off. Took me 4 years to pluck up the courage to ask him to pay the legal minimum...

He’s spent lockdown sending a flurry of nasty solicitor’s letters filled with financial threats and court. 3 weeks ago I said “ok, give me dates” (to see the children he so desperately misses). Radio silence.

Urgh. What an arsehole! I had a dad like that. I know the feeling.

On the other hand I've watched dp fight to see his children and go through hell and back. Some people are just arseholes aren't they especially where children are concerned?!

HeIenaDove · 08/08/2020 21:05

i posted this elsewhere

i fall somewhere in between. Well i did until i saw the disgusting ableism from the group referred to as dementors.

I havent seen the other group make derogatory comments about ppl with medical conditions who cant wear masks but ive seen plenty of it from the group referred to as dementers. As well as derogatory comments about ppl on disability benefits.

This is what completely alienated me and pushed me more to the other side as it were!

Pleasedontdothat · 08/08/2020 21:09

"there is a cure for sepsis, there isnt for Covid 19"

My sister developed sepsis as a result of viral pneumonia a few years ago - she nearly died, was in ICU for several days and took more than six months to recover

It’s baffling that so many people think that nasty infections and illnesses didn’t exist before Covid. Sepsis kills ~40,000 people every year, often young, previously fit and healthy people like my dad’s lovely neighbour who died last year from sepsis leaving two small children behind - and yet we don’t shut anything down, or have a running sad death total ...

MaxNormal · 08/08/2020 21:18

The average mortality rate for sepsis is 40%. Not exactly something with a guaranteed cure, and surviving it often involves horrific complications including damage to internal organs and amputations.

Covid doesn't look too bad by comparison.
