Welcome @Glenthebattleostrich and @Flappergasted!

BogRollBOGOF · 08/08/2020 12:24

My vegetable patch had a lovely display of poppies some weeks ago Grin

I was quite enthusuastic for the first couple of years, but since then I never seem to get the balance of enthusiasm and weather right. It doesn't help that my pelvis is not keen on digging since I had SPD pregnancies.

I should make a raspberry cake while they're still rampant.

My DCs love Gardener's World... a couple of years ago they bounced down far too energetic at night so I put it on to bore them off to bed. Big mistake. They were enthralled. The next time we went to the supermarket, they went gung ho on buying seeds Grin

Willow2017 · 08/08/2020 12:37

I did an experiment to see if i could really grow tomato plants from seeds out a tomato. I now have 12 bloody plants in the kitchen! Cant put them outside as out back is a wind tunnel and between that and the pelting rain they would have been battered to bits. As it is my potatoes i planted in the sack are battered sideways I hope it hasn't stopped them growing.

justasking111 · 08/08/2020 12:40

OH was on the beach with dogs before 9am, car park nearly full which puzzled him until he got to the beach, tents up lots of folk already settled in for the day. He has gone fishing on the boat, DS is going to local driving range not a holiday makers favourite activity in hot weather. Me I am staying put, will maybe sit out under umbrella, read a book, went to shop this morning for bbq makings for dinner.

I hope all the visitors to N Wales have a wonderful weekend and excuse us if we do not join them Grin

Ibake · 08/08/2020 12:45

@justasking111 DT2 in Anglesey this weekend staying with friends. He certainly picked a good weekend for it!

Dowser · 08/08/2020 12:57

Oh dear I seem to have ruffled a few feathers.
@ibake
Please get mnhq to change it any way you like. Do a complete fresh one if you want. I don’t mind.

Ah which bit of Anglesey, he went down the straits yesterday taking photographs for an architect who wanted pics. from the water. I want to go to Black Seal for lunch but will wait until September, ditto surfing in Rhosneigr. So jealous @Ibake . To be honest we leave tourists to it every year when it gets really busy, a trade off, we will spend our money there at another time. Hope you have the best weekend xx

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 08/08/2020 12:59

@BogRollBOGOF raspberry cake! Sounds delicious. Post the recipe?

Dowser · 08/08/2020 13:06

I’ve always made my position clear on here.
I’m not a covid denier but I made my decision that I was going to live my best life and if anything happened to me I was going living not cowering in my bunker.
If that meant me and dh driving to an almost empty beach then so be it.
I have my opinion and I respect others.
Hopefully we will meet somewhere in the middle

Welcome to our new people. I’m pleased I didn’t put you off 😁

@Glenthebattleostrich

Hello, hope you don't mind me joining in!

Gardening chat, sensible risk assessment and no judgement. Sounds like my kinda thread!

I've discovered the joys of gardening during lockdown and have turned my gardens from a weed infested wilderness to pretty and useful spaces. And I'm growing tomatoes, blueberries and apples. Next year I'll be planting raspberries, strawberries and carrots too. I'm rediculously excited about the 20 tomatoes growing on my plants, watching them obsessively for ripening.

Today we are off to a local brewery / gin distillers who have some tables and music and pizza. It's lovely and outdoors and everyone is sensible and nice.

Welcome - I think you'll fit right in and may even have given us a good title for the next thread

"AD's do gardening and sensible risk assessment with no judgement' Sound good to me

Welcome too to @Flappergasted

@TheHighestSardine Sat 08-Aug-20 10:59:33

Thanks for the compliment - simply mental suits me well.

There are plenty of respected epidemiologists who agree that there has been a mass overreaction to the current situation. You can chose which ones you find credible, as can I.

There is definitely a lack of judgement about different views. The only thing we really don't tolerate is intolerance so I think you are correct in deciding this thread is not for you.

Bollss · 08/08/2020 13:09

@TheHighestSardine

Agree with Milky. Your threads regularly look simply mental to the casual observer who believes in epidemiology, because you do have some people who are just "fuck it, I'll do what I like" and no-one daring to tell them that's inappropriate.
Personally I don't give a shiny shit. If you wanna join in, join in. If you think it's "simply mental" then take yourself elsewhere. Perhaps if a casual observer actually read them they'd understand what it's actually about. Books, covers, you know.

Bloody ridiculous, I can go to the pub, shops, anywhere to keep the economy going but I can't visit my granddaughter or go to work.
We'll just starve and wait and see how much gd has grown when we get to see her again.
This isn't to do with covid, i's taking our freedom away.

Now I did not expect to see you here. How times change!
Ibake · 08/08/2020 13:18

@justasking111 their farm is near Llanbedrgoch but it's a bit isolated. Chances are they'll have been at Lligwy beach all weekend as I know that's quite close by. Perfect weekend for it.

Have to ask why you cannot see your grand daughter, is she immuno suppressed?
Littlebelina · 08/08/2020 13:27

@ISaySteadyOn I just harvest my cucumbers when they are about the right cucumber size if that makes sense? If you let them get too big the skins get tough but you can just cut it off. Beware you may end up with several at once

Devlesko · 08/08/2020 13:27

I'm in Wigan, we have 2 weeks of lockdown and fined if I visit them.
They have a ridiculous neighbour who would likely report us.
My work relied on venues such as theatres, schools, festivals etc.
No jobs about, and dh has lost his work too, he's a musician and same venues.
They don't make this much fuss over flu, I don't believe this is any different, but know people will disagree.

ShakeaHettyFeather · 08/08/2020 13:30

Glad to see the clarification that this thread is still only anti-dementors rather than taken over by covid-deniers etc.

Dc2 (with ASD etc) wasn't coping well once dc1 in Y6 went back to school. Lovely CAMHS lady agreed we would be.totally justified in throwing her over the fence into a playground (before they all reopened here). I'm in inner London so many people have no outdoor space, and by that point we'd exhausted tree-climbing in parks. It was nice for about 3 weeks, about half a dozen kids at most in a park, a few young men doing exercise, parents of all but the smallest kids staying outside the playground.

Now a swimming pool has finally opened that permits children, dc2's mental health is back to normal. I have to admit I'm liking the fact that you now have to book an hour in the pool, because you're guaranteed to get in and with a max of 7 adults with 1 or 2 kids each, it's so much more pleasant.

Oh sorry that is bad, I hope it is lifted soon. DS girlfriend is in Calderdale which went into lock down, she was staying with us the other week, to be honest I wish she had stayed and avoided the upset. Now DS cannot go and visit her either. It is crap...

*I should make a raspberry cake while they're still rampant8

My dad soaks his raspberries (ooer missus), in gin and vodka for a few months. He then decant the raspberry gin/vodka into bottles and uses the alcohol soaked fruit for things like trifles, cakes, puddings or freezes them into ice cube trays...my dad is a genius.

Hello, all.Good to year all the nice weekend activity and Rishi plans.

I’m at DPs and we had old friends down for dinner last night so bit delicate today.. Gorgeous day so much lazing in sun in order. We had been going to go to a posh hotel but concerned as sounded bit depressing with masks in public areas. Anyway, glad we cancelled now as it’s such a nice day 😊 Feeling cheerier and more normal.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 08/08/2020 13:42

Where are my manners? (sorry Mum). Thank you to the posters who offered condolences and flowers.

ISaySteadyOn · 08/08/2020 13:43

@Littlebelina, that's what I thought but wanted to check. I am not worried about too many though as DS is cucumber mad.

Littlebelina · 08/08/2020 13:43

Definitely not a covid denier here. I agree that a lockdown was needed initially, not anti mask (but accept some can't wear them and they need to be worn appropriately) and definitely pro vaccine ( although not sure it's going to be here as fast as some say).

What I object to is the authoritative attitude of some when they think people are breaking the roolz (usually because they don't understand said rules themselves), schools being kept closed to most and the misrepresentation of science and statistics by the media, posters on other threads and sometimes the government itself.

Telling people to freeze milk or use cheese in coffee to avoid popping to the corner shop was a particular lowlight.
