Oh my. I’ve read about such genetic mutations...

TheOrchidKiller · 08/08/2020 22:43

I use pine needles stripped from branches as I walk past. I circle twice, spraying the branch with disinfectant the second time.

So that's how they make pine toilet duck! Grin

Well, the aperol has been drunk & hasn't touched the sides. I am wide awake, so brilliant, that's really helped. It was a double measure too.

On the other hand I have just misread Dowser's post about N Yorks & thought she had been to New York. I thought, "They've got a Betty's there as well, have they?"

littlbrowndog · 08/08/2020 22:44

Omg that aubergine pic. Awesome 😎

Dowser · 08/08/2020 22:44

@NothingIsWrong..oh wow..I think it’s such a lovely place and often seems to be the most visited city for a weekend break after the capital so I thought I’d give a little update.
We started coming down in June, when our site owner said we could visit the caravans for the day and I just thought it looked desolate and grim and that it would never recover but it has perked up enormously in the last two weeks so people are obviously booking up for a holiday.
I don’t know about the attractions like museum and the Jorvik and the railway museum. We’ve done them many times so don’t bother now but the hospitality is in full swing and the shops.

We haven’t stayed late on a night either, so what happens when everyone has had a good drink I don’t know , SD on the streets is a bit haphazard, so might not suit everyone.

Re shoes..Helmsley market was in full swing yesterday and the guy who has the shoe stall there was more than happy for me to try some sandals on..and when I said I would buy them, he brought out a new pair.
It’s just so..random !
@BogRollBOGOF panic attacks are a PITA, aren't they? I have them over an every day (non-covid) activity that most people don't think twice about. Breathing slowly helps, but I get it that might make you feel worse in a mask. I understand.

@justasking111 DD says her boss has developed a "teacher voice" if customers get a bit too close after a few drinks.
I don't often have them. Overheating in queues is one trigger because it's that being trapped and not being able to get on with it (ironically social distancing is good for that as it's less claustrophobic). Humid, sensory overload such as swimming pool changing is another and I struggle with dim, claustrophobic cubicals. I'm far happier with a communal room!

This was a strange one because the supermarket was cooler than outside and I made sure that I was in light clothing, so I didn't get the surge of overheating to begin with.

I managed an hour at the osteopath, but that was mainly lying down with little movement required which helped.

@LadyOfTheImprovisedBath I forgot all about the need to remove male cucumber flowers this year. Now you've said it I remember pulling them off last summer! I haven't bothered this year and all 3 of my home grown outside ones have been fine.

^^ This post is a whole new level of filth.

Well done. GrinGrin

NowYouListenToMeFella · 08/08/2020 22:47

@DrearyWallAntler

Aubergines are the devil's work.

If y'all kick me out out I'm taking my sewers with me.

So ner.

Grin

I'll be coming with you. I hate them too 😬

That's good to hear - I think we'll leave them from now on - and hope for the best.

It looks like we have beetroot, quiet a few peas and carrots in our new veg bed as well as cucumbers doing okay and the rhubarb in other bed grown from seed is doing great - so our inital lock down gardening hasn't been a total disaster.

bakingcupcakes · 08/08/2020 22:51

@MaxNormal

littlbrowndog have you read Maggie O'Farrell's autobiography? She had the same, as a child, with life-long effects.
I think I've read that. Didn't she have lots of near death experiences?
LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 08/08/2020 22:51

The aubergine picture is very impressive - never seen one like that in the veg boxes or supermarkets.

IAintentDead · 08/08/2020 22:51

@Jaxhog Sat 08-Aug-20 21:23:00

Being happy doesn't mean ignoring the rules and condemning people to death by COVID, surely?

Err No, why would it, and why would you come on here and say that?

Can you really not find some joy in life any other way?

Who finds joy in that? We don't.
Is coming on threads that you have no idea about and criticising and judging people how you find joy? It certainly isn't how we do.

bakingcupcakes · 08/08/2020 22:53

Ahh, if I'd read to the next page I'd have seen Pink had mentioned the book title. I've definitely read that.

DominaShantotto · 08/08/2020 22:57

Checking in - I've been under pretty much house arrest since the whole mask situation has got so toxic here I don't dare go anywhere. Haven't left the house most of this week... made a few designs of masks as thin and tailored to me as I could possibly do to try to appease the "try different ones" brigade... nope - still induce a panic attack in me, now they're triggering flashbacks to the trauma as well. Since there are so many masked warriors around here determined to bully and police and make anyone with a naked face stay at home - I'm too worried to go out.

One of the school mums ever so tentatively texted me this morning saying her child was really struggling now and did DD want to go round for a play date? You could feel the anxiety as if she'd broken some rule and was going to offend me bless her - unfortunately the kids are at their grandparents (they really needed the break and the space - we've long since outgrown this house - even before DH started working from home), but once she realised I was fairly laid back about the kids mixing (I draw the line at the manky tasting each other's lollypops they've tried in the past!) you could see her visibly relaxing. We've now concluded if schools don't open we're out there with a placard then doing a prison-style rooftop protest.

I once grew a tomato shaped exactly like Kim Kardashian's arse - haven't got the photo anymore as it was on my old phone.

Thank you. I do try. I think the gin helps. Grin

@IceCreamSummer20

About 8 new people have commented on here today.
6 came on and asked what we were about, decided they liked it and are staying and enjoying our non judgemental thread.

2 came on with assumptions. 1 @Jaxhog came on and accused us of "ignoring the rules and condemning people to death" and you come on and accuse of us being rude to @jaxhog and misleading people.

Do you normally butt into conversations, take things out of context, jump to conclusions and condemn others based on your totally wrong interpretation?

What we do on hear is support others, talk about gardening, pets, cooking and other things that interest and, along with that, have a grumble about life in the time of Corona.

How do you spend your time? no don't answer that. It probably won't sit comfortably in a supportive environment.

Nomination for next thread title...’the AD’s are deflowering cucumbers’.
Or will be get lectures around taking responsibility for the fact that anyone reading it will start raiding peoples gardens in the middle of the night with secateurs?

MaxNormal · 08/08/2020 23:06

I think I've read that. Didn't she have lots of near death experiences?

She did, that was one of them only. And the harrowing situation with her daughter's life threatening allergies.

No, unfortunately they have to follow parental guidance rules. No rude and amusing ( thank you, Baldrick) vegetables allowed.
shinynewapple2020 · 08/08/2020 23:19

@Glenthebattleostrich I like the sound of the local brewery with the music and pizza

@trappedsincesundaymorn and I love the idea of the booze soaked raspberry cakes

I am sorry to hear about your mum

That sounds pretty awful about having to quarantine for a fortnight on arrival at university! It doesn't even make sense .

Talking of ways of finding joy ... have had a lovely evening . BBQ and a few drinks with adult DS and his GF, and tomorrow I will visit my mum for the first time since March

justasking111 · 08/08/2020 23:40

Bought a hand sanitiser, it smelt vile, like breast fed baby poop. So I bought another ahh... smells wonderfully boozy. Anyone else think some of them smell like vodka Grin

justasking111 · 08/08/2020 23:41

Re: uni. quarantine, DS going into halls, 94 flats, how is that going to work I wonder.

PickAChew · 08/08/2020 23:43

I got a news article today about a nurse who ignored a pain in her leg, figuring she'd been on her feet a lot, throughout the covid crisis. Turned out to be a sarcoma and she's had her lower leg amputated, now.

I think the try it 10 times rule has now worked on dh. He's had a load of my roasted aubergine curries and I served him some M&S couscous salad which is full of aubergine, complete with skin, and he loved it.

Never successful with mushrooms, mind.

justasking111 · 08/08/2020 23:44

OMG Wales is talking about chartering planes to bring the chinese students back to uni. talk about innovative. Wonder if others will follow. Decades ago the Llandudno hotels used to bring workers over from Spain for the season.
