Never successful with mushrooms, mind.

Food of the gods, mushrooms. DH hates them, bloody idiot that he is. Hmm

PickAChew · 08/08/2020 23:52

Chinese and Japanese students are the bread and butter of Durham uni. We even have a small branch of Teikyo University, here, for their language students. It has the most magnificent weeping cherry blossom tree, outside.

MaxNormal · 08/08/2020 23:53

@PinkFondantFancy that's the book! Can hugely recommend her fiction writing, she's wonderful.

justasking111 · 08/08/2020 23:53

Those big mushrooms turned up with garlic butter, stilton cheese, roasted in the oven, so good. Such an easy dish to make too.

Aubergines, nah, even ten times would not work. I tried that with olives but gag on the oiliness of them.

PickAChew · 08/08/2020 23:53

I love mushrooms but their fodmaps play havoc with my digestive system, these days

And Stilton is a big no. WORST MIGRAINE EVER!

Sadly. Love the stuff.

NothingIsWrong · 08/08/2020 23:55

I love all the food. Hence why I am NOT a size 10

Glenthebattleostrich · 08/08/2020 23:57

@shineynewapple2020, it was great. A lovely afternoon. I even brought home a nice bottle of blood orange gin after the husband asked if I wanted carry out.

Even in soup? I've found the best ever broccoli and stilton (low carb) soup recipe ever. Let me know if you need it.
PickAChew · 09/08/2020 00:00

I love lots of food. And wine. Too. Deffo size 14! Not more because lots of the food I love is vegetables.

TeetotalKoala · 09/08/2020 00:01

I think I've found my people. You seem like a sensible lot. May j join?

justasking111 · 09/08/2020 00:03

Oh bugger gone down the fodmap rabbit hole, so many foods that set me off on there, will do some research at a respectable hour. But thanks for the nudge @PickAChew

justasking111 · 09/08/2020 00:05

@thenightsky low carb you say, that will please the OH on his caveman diet. Would love the recipe.

PickAChew · 09/08/2020 00:05

Sorry, thenightdky

Perimenopause gave me the gift of migraines. Ugliest ever was full on pukes after some blue cheese. Since then, any mature cheese at all has been a dice roll sadly, chocolate does the same. Have learnt to recognise the weird spacey, drowsy feeling which meant that I lost the bet, before I decorate the bathroom.

PickAChew · 09/08/2020 00:07

Had some really nice quiche, tonight. No pukes on the horizon but it's been bloody windy!

Ibake · 09/08/2020 00:18

I've had a lovely evening with my friends. So nice to sit out in the garden until late when it's so lovely and warm. Bats swooping everywhere at one point. I live under Manchester Airport flight path and the skies are getting noticeably busier.

I've also many, many Aperol Spritzs this evening.

G'night all.

thenightsky · 09/08/2020 00:19

PM'ed you... forgot to add... throw in loads of black of black pepper and salt to taste.

thenightsky · 09/08/2020 00:20

@justasking111 Sorry, that was to you.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 09/08/2020 00:23

@TeetotalKoala welcome! We're nice and only occasionally murder grannies.

HeIenaDove · 09/08/2020 00:41

@PickAChew Ive also had quiche. Started it last night. Finished it tonight. Broccoli and tomato

HeIenaDove · 09/08/2020 00:52

@chocolatesweets

It is antisocial to distance from people. People think they are doing it out of kindness to vulnerable people but we will soon learn that we can't live in fear all the time. Being social is what makes us human. I do social distance but I think it's cruel.
I've said that all along. I have no issue keeping apart from Bob down the road but I can't stay 2m apart from my friends and family anymore. I'm not a hugger so there is a natural distance anyway but it's most definitely not 2m. I'm going to stay with my parents for the week, kids will definitely hug them, I will get closer than 2m and there will be sharing of food, drinks etc.

I did 8 weeks of not seeing a single person outside of my household. I struggled big time, all my everyday things like work, the gym, school etc was taken away. I never realised before how much I need social contact.

I think most people now are thinking along the same lines as me because it's not healthy to continue distancing from your loved ones. I don't leap to give a passing person 2m either, I walk past them for less than a second and I have yet to be coughed or sneezed on or cough or sneeze on anyone.

I hate wearing a mask, I do it when I need to because I'm not exempt. I went shopping yesterday for clothes because I really needed stuff, I would have stayed longer to browse but it was very unpleasant.

@PickAChew
Have they finished rebuilding Durham yet?
I didn’t realise how upset I get when I see lots of construction/ destruction going on. It makes me feel really disorientated . Last time we went into durham and saw the mess at the end of the main bridge, elves? Not sure, I said to mr Dowser I can’t stay here, it’s how we found the nice walk at houghall and how we began our Indian picnics.
For years my dd met her home ed group at the botanic gardens, they would go regularly and stay outside, even in the thick of winter.
Anyone visiting, the oriental museum is well worth a visit.

Mushrooms? Let’s just say I can eat them but they don’t like me.
