@littlbrowndog

But I still love aubergines fried with yogurt on top and chilli flakes on top of the yogurt
I might mention that to DH - he puts chilli flakes on everything at the minute but is meh about aubergines.

Last time we got one - we grilled it on kebabs with Halloumi, onions, cherry tommotoes and peppers. An idea DS HE teacher gave us with one of their recipies in lockdown.

TheOrchidKiller · 08/08/2020 22:21

@LadyOfTheImprovisedBath
It was the IKEA gingerbread house which comes ready flat-packed for home assembly, but resulted in the obligatory IKEA assembling row, minus the allyn keys.

Your gingerbread house plans sound amazing. Mine are chucked together on December 24.

@PinkFondantFancy IT'S TOO LATE! I've cracked & gone for the illegal aperol & tonic combo. If there's reports of an outbreak of orangeyness in the East Midlands it'll be me.

Facebook can be amusing and worth sharing. From friends who own a pub.

I haven’t. Read it driving down. But will ta for that.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 08/08/2020 22:22

@LadyOfTheImprovisedBath might I suggest he also embraces chipotle flakes for a smoky finish? He and I would get along well. I ran out of milk at the beginning of lockdown so just added some fiery cheddar to my coffee. 😉

Thisdressneedspockets · 08/08/2020 22:25

@Littlebelina

I've just seen a poster get told to "get a grip" as she couldn't afford to buy 2 pairs of shoes as covid meant they couldn't be tried on. Being lectured on a misleading thread title is a bit of an insult
I saw that, which made me think about the posts that say well just try different masks, when people are saying that they're struggling with them.

I just totted up how much I've spent trying differentv things so far and it's over 50 quid. The most expensive being Seasalt buffs and the cheapest £3 made by a friend.
Lots of people aren't going to have the money for trial and error. Especially if they have several family members.

You've still got coffee? You filthy stockpiler. I'm roasting and grinding acorns to brew mine. Luckily I've got an oak tree in the garden so I don't need to leave my property

MaxNormal · 08/08/2020 22:28

My mum had some heart damage from rheumatic fever as a child.
It didn't actually cause her any issues really.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 08/08/2020 22:29

Aren’t acorns poisonous? Still, slow liver failure is better than being on a ventilator.

Dowser · 08/08/2020 22:29

Welcome to all the new folk.
I hope you feel relaxed and chilled in here.

What a scorcher today was again here in N Yorks.
Went down to york about 4-30 for a drink.
Temperature really started dropping and was about 25 when I got there and a cool wind.

Anyone who knows york well might be pleased to Know there’s quite a sense of normality returning with that buzz on the streets
It certainly looked like most of the businesses are open now, even the picturehouse cinema had reopened..but weirdly the bar was not..
I asked for a leaflet to peruse what was on and was told that they didn’t have any leaflets out because of covid..yet when I went over to the lift to go to the loo, here’s a stack of leaflets advertising Yorks nearby attractions, Eden camp etc
It’s the bonkers-ness of all of this that gets to me.
Betty’s, the ivy restaurant etc..all open. A chap was doing the ghost walk the other night.
There’s still no live music in pubs and there’s one or two street artists round and about, like the opera guy but so far none of the big bands like Y street Band and Hyde Family Jam..our favourites.
We left before the stags and hens came out, my legs were decided chilly but yes all good for anyone thinking of a trip up or trip down.

Earlier while sunning ourselves on the caravan balcony, I was approached by a lovely couple handing out leaflets for their dinner delivery service. She is a chef and had just moved into the area when lockdown happened , so she’s going to cook the meals and her dh deliver them.

So, we are thinking of Sunday dinner tomorrow and can cole wth our df and gf peculiarities..so am quite excited by this.

All in all a lovely day.
Hope everyone else got as much enjoyment out of theirs as possible.

Ahem. Let me just remind you that you cant drink if you've liver damage
DrearyWallAntler · 08/08/2020 22:30

Acorns!? Bloody hell. You've clearly been outside for more than an hour collecting those. Think of the grannys.

I use pine needles stripped from branches as I walk past. I circle twice, spraying the branch with disinfectant the second time.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 08/08/2020 22:30

But at least you weren’t on a ventilator!

NothingIsWrong · 08/08/2020 22:30

@Dowser making me most jealous. I grew up in York and used to busk with my friends when we were in sixth form.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 08/08/2020 22:32

@InsaneInTheViralMembrane I will do as not heard of chipotle flakes- he's very big on smoked paprika at the minute - I'm not as keen but it turnes up on roast poatatoes and other odd places when he cooks.

@TheOrchidKiller we started out with Aldi flat packed trains and houses then with inspriation from How to cook and older chidlren started making our own - she made it look easy and fun - the fun bit was there and they get eaten.

pollyhemlock · 08/08/2020 22:32

Here is a picture of an aubergine DH grew last year. Not boasting or anything.

It's how we coped during the war don't you know Grin

bakingcupcakes · 08/08/2020 22:34

@LadyOfTheImprovisedBath I forgot all about the need to remove male cucumber flowers this year. Now you've said it I remember pulling them off last summer! I haven't bothered this year and all 3 of my home grown outside ones have been fine.

torydeathdrug · 08/08/2020 22:34

When my liver packs up it is 100% going to be gin related ... none of this organic acorn shite 😉

TheOrchidKiller · 08/08/2020 22:34

@BogRollBOGOF panic attacks are a PITA, aren't they? I have them over an every day (non-covid) activity that most people don't think twice about. Breathing slowly helps, but I get it that might make you feel worse in a mask. I understand.

@justasking111 DD says her boss has developed a "teacher voice" if customers get a bit too close after a few drinks.

Of course not, I get the kids to help me collect them, if I get them to count them into the bucket it doubles up as home schooling
thenightsky · 08/08/2020 22:36

Goodness me. With all these extremely easily influenced posters taking advice from our thread you ought to be careful posting such.... ahem.... Suggestive images.

Take some responsibility woman Wink

BogRollBOGOF · 08/08/2020 22:37

That is a very impressive aubergine, and no wonder 🍆 has hidden meanings. At least the last 4.5 months of my life haven't been a total waste of existance. Close, but not totally Grin
