If you have to explain it, it is still not clear. I know that regular posters here will understand, however this is a very well used public forum, and antisocial distancing would mean to me and most other people - ‘don’t socially distance’

Well then that’s your lookout. If you would change your behaviour based on a thread title in the chat section of a parenting support group, you maybe need to rethink your decision making skills.

PinkFondantFancy · 08/08/2020 21:59

@Drivingdownthe101 @TrustTheGeneGenie are you actually the same person??? Grin

I do wonder if people who have never encountered death are more alarmed by the thought of dying of covid. I am 65. Many people I know have died, some horribly. My mother, my youngest brother (not even 50) and my best and dearest friend have all died of cancer within the past 7 years. (I find cancer far more frightening than covid) My father then died accidentally after falling over and hitting his head. (Incidentally, when you are young, you 'fall over', when you are old, you 'have a fall'!) There is nothing like dealing with death that makes you face your own mortality. I am rather phlegmatic about it, in that I would rather live my life, travel, socialise etc etc than live a half life. I feel like a bird in a gilded cage. I have a comfortable lifestyle, but I have no freedom. If this went on for years, death would be preferable.
Everybody has to die sometime. I posted on a thread when all this started that around 450 people die each day of cancer, and the same amount of heart disease, so that's 900 a day just from those 2 things alone in the uk. I was challenged on this (although the figures are there for everyone to see) and some didn't believe the figures. I honestly think some people, and it must be the younger generations, have no idea how many people die each day, and that, ultimately, covid is just a drop in the ocean world wide compared to many other causes of death.
You know, death really isn't the worst thing that can happen to you.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 08/08/2020 22:00

I would politely suggest your first port of call be a dictionary. Or you could log a call on 0800-COVID-19.

@PinkFondantFancy haven't made it to the side-board yet. Weighing up if it's a good idea & the right sort of sedative for a hot night.

The first time I had an aperol spritz I thought it tasted wonderful but my god, the headache after! As we don't have prosecco I'll have to use tonic water. It's actually nice & not as lethal.

Reedwarbler. Great post. 💪

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 08/08/2020 22:03

"Ugh!"said DD, who had pestered for the house in the first place. "I'm not eating that, it looks like blood in the snow!"

That's an idea - I was thinking Hansel and Gretel at front and dark and deadly at back - though will have to work out some plans.

Previously we used the How To Cook That plans and recipe for christmas ones - she's absolutely great but I'm not allowed to even think about trying the Up House she did the debunking videos she does are great for the kids to see as well.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 08/08/2020 22:05
@TrustTheGeneGenie No I won’t ‘mind my own business’ because this is an open public forum and your do have a responsibility. Or do you just not care if anything that you say could be taken by others as license to not socially distance?
That's fucking hilarious.

"Here, our Jenny, why aren't you doing social distancing no more? What's going on?"

"Well, I read the title of a thread on Mumsnet and it's made me chuck the whole thing in the bin, our Sammy. They said they was anti social distancing you see, so I'm not going to do it no more. Also, I coughed on that granny as I went past her just now."

Won't somebody please think of the grannies?!! Shock

PinkFondantFancy · 08/08/2020 22:05

Oh nononono I'm pretty sure aperol and tonic water is probably an illegal combo. It should be. Wait until you've got prosecco and then do the hangover properly Grin

@Reedwarbler totally agree. I have come to the same conclusion, I've seen you don't get to control how things pan out, no matter how hard you try. You've just got to live your life as well as you can. I'm really sorry for your losses

I'm having a little giggle to myself that there's apparently people in the internet looking for advice on whether they should socially distance and if they stumble here they'll only find advice on what to do with aubergines and sewer maps Grin

littlbrowndog · 08/08/2020 22:05

I had a virus which went into,my brain. Left me with long life symptoms.

There is other stuff which happens all the time. Not just Covid.

At least they’ll learn what a ‘malaka’ is!

But I still love aubergines fried with yogurt on top and chilli flakes on top of the yogurt

justasking111 · 08/08/2020 22:09

Was neighbours wedding anniversary 44 years. We sat in their garden with some lovely bubbles and chewed the cud. Another neighbour and wife have been shielding since March, the last couple of weeks they have been showered with government and medical advice about getting out and about again. He has bought masks and is hoping to get away next month for a break in the Lake District. They are so excited. I am glad for them he has been a very stoic transplant survivor but is an anti dementor having worked in the nhs.

BogRollBOGOF · 08/08/2020 22:11

Fortunately the queue assistant in the supermarket was very helpful this evening during my panic attack. She loaded and packed the shopping and kept me talking which helped with my breathing. I had pulled my Buff up in Aldi, but it kicked in very quickly by the end of the first aisle. It subsided and I decided to plough on with the top-up in supermarket 2, but it overcame me towards the queuing zone at the end.

I'm surprised how quickly it came on.

It's frustrating. I've been shopping perfectly fine through March and the panic shopping, and peak virus in an early hotspot. In early lockdown, the supermarket was a dose of near normality. Not now.

Littlebelina · 08/08/2020 22:13

I've just seen a poster get told to "get a grip" as she couldn't afford to buy 2 pairs of shoes as covid meant they couldn't be tried on. Being lectured on a misleading thread title is a bit of an insult

MaxNormal · 08/08/2020 22:13

littlbrowndog have you read Maggie O'Farrell's autobiography? She had the same, as a child, with life-long effects.

Drivingdownthe101 · 08/08/2020 22:15

And if you think this thread title is confusing @IceCreamSummer20, you should have seen the one about donut bum dogs.

I had a virus which went into,my brain. Left me with long life symptoms.

There is other stuff which happens all the time. Not just Covid.

I'm sorry to hear that.

Both FIL and Dad were told that they had heart damage in their late 60s - it was a result of looking due to other illnesesses - and they were both told it was likey from common childhood viral illnesses they had as children.

It is very surpising the damage that common illness can cause some people.

Is that I Am I Am I Am? That book is absolutely wonderful. I haven't read anything else from her but loved that one. Makes me wonder what I did with it actually...
