How much fruit and veg have you had today?

An 80g serving of fresh fruit or veg and a 30g serving of dried fruit counts as one of your 5 a day.

Spinach (half portion)
Tomato and Bean soup (1 portion)
1 quarter cantaloupe melon (1 portion)
Carrots (half portion)
Hummus (quarter portion)
Celery (quarter portion)
Cauliflower (one portion)
Brussels sprouts (one portion)

That's 5 and a half portions and I don’t think I can fit any more in. I’m trying to get to 7 portions per day.

Fuck ton. But it varies from day to day.

  • Berries in porridge for breakfast.
  • Greek salad at 11am (was starving and nothing else at our limited work barista)
  • another giant salad at lunch with friend
  • clementine
  • dinner will be stuffed mushrooms with roasted cauliflower probably.

But then the last few weeks I've been living on alcohol, nicotine, cheese and crackers and vegan junk food so I am, for the first time in my life, craving vegetables.

I don't actively seek to eat X portions of fruit or veg a day though. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't.

Today I’ve had
1 portion of grapes
1 portion of courgette
1 portion of carrot
1 portion of spinach
1 portion of broccoli
1 portion of asparagus
Then kidney beans, black beans, celery and peppers in my lunch

There was a great thread two years ago and we tried to increase our number of veg and fruits, not necessarily full portions but a general increase in variety. Some posters managed 20 plus.

Today I've had 3 fruit and 4 veg. Fine but not great.

Today has been a bad food day, but it's day 1 of my period so I don't care.

I've had:

  • 1 (large) cherry tomato, but it was fresh from my garden so I'm pretty sure that's worth about 6
  • a portion of peas
  • a portion of sweetcorn
  • 1 glass of orange juice (which counts according to official rules)

I think there were sultanas in the brunch bar I had for breakfast, and dinner was veggie pizza, so that's probably another portion, right?

But I am on holiday and we are eating easy things. I only had the crudités because someone else asked for them. Had lots of junk too!

With chicken and wedges for dinner -
Lettuce

I have fruit or veg with every meal otherwise i feel like crap after a few days!

2 green smoothies containing a green apple, yellow pepper, 2 cups of kale, ginger, green chilli, a large cucumber and for dinner a tomato curry made yesterday from Meehra Sodha’s East book.

Baby sweetcorn, pak Choi, bean sprouts in stir fry - again, not a full portion of each.

I generally get a good variety but not the quantities.

Half a small banana, a few strawberries and a swig of grapefruit juice at breakfast. A couple of carrot sticks and a nectarine at lunch. Cannelini beans, tomatoes, cabbage and carrots with supper, and new potatoes but not sure if they count? then a few raspberries. Might just about add up to five portions. It's weird, I like veg and fruit very much, but I still struggle to eat recommended amounts.

So many be about 8? I do worry that I eat too much fruit though 🤷‍♀️

I’ve had a good few today. DP has a new juicer (don’t know if juice counts but it was whole fruit and veg)

Probably more stuff that needed using up that I’m better Not knowing about

I am kind of addicted to tomatoes (and generally all veg). Where I am currently visiting (somewhere in the meds) tomatoes are literally the best food around...so lots!!! 😀
