I am celebrating a minor breakthrough today having found a slightly less hideously uncomfortable mask. Good old B&M Bargains.

@DominaShantotto are you studying Linguistic Science? I've dipped in & out of these threads so sorry if I missed that. I only ask because that's what I did my degree in back in the day Smile

@Mascotte

Help! AIBU? I’ve arrived home after a really long drive after holiday aborted and there are two cars parked in my drive. I susiectvtheyve been left after a neighbour’s party, but am feeling really fucked off I can’t just get parked and unloaded in my own fucking drive. They knew I was away but I was due back today ...
Cheeky feckers!! Seriously, who'd have neighbours!

I've read Harry Potter to both my kids. One of them loved it and moved on to Hunger Games, LOTR, the works. The other one got so scared in the second book that she refused to read any further. She hates peril in general. She can't cope with Percy Jackson, Alex Rider....nothing. Her series of choice are Wimpy Kid, Dork Diaries etc

Mascotte · 26/07/2020 14:13

Ok.. it was from the party but if they’d just messaged me, I’d have been fine!!

I got a fright as I live alone and just had that moment if “who the fuck is in my house?”!!!

Anyway.. time for a soothing cup of tea.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 26/07/2020 14:26

I used to stack books under my pillow. My parents always caught me out by checking the temperature of my light! Mills & Boon under the bed as a teen 😂

Reedwarbler · 26/07/2020 14:28

A few random observations...I went on my usual weekly shop on friday to Aldi and Tesco, and both were very quiet, in fact virtually empty. Apparently it had been crazy busy on Thursday, so people were presumably doing a big shop before masks became compulsory. Great for me because I hate crowded shops at any time, but if the footfall everywhere is reduced by mask wearing, how long do you think it will be mandatory for? What if major retailers complain that their business is being damaged?
I have made a few masks. One has a skull pattern. However, I have just ordered some material that says 'fuck' all over it, which I thought would adequately express my opinion.

I also thought about making a yashmak, after all, it would cover my nose and mouth. You can tell I don't take this very seriously. We have enjoyed returning to our local pub for a pint or so (and another local pub for a meal).
Re Spain and its increase in cases. If people are getting Covid 19 but not dying and recovering well, then surely that makes it no more dangerous than any other bug doing the rounds. I don't know why the English are being blamed by some posters, it seems to me nightclubs heaving with (spanish) people might be a good way to spread it. The BBC quoted someone as saying that '99% of the English don't abide by the rules' (it was on the main online news page). What utter bollocks.

Speech and Language Therapy - first year so we do all the theoretical stuff for the future years.

Plastic playmobil children de-infestation lasted about half a day - I now still have to do the high hurdles to get over the kids precision arranged in a path of some educational inspired activity to get across the lounge. They're socially distanced now which is bloody depressing to see (they're usually lined up).

DD2 still desperately needs to be seen in the eye clinic - she's had another headache with vision blurring like she was getting at the start of lockdown (they reduced a lot once she went back to school) - she's rallied fast and the vision blurring stopped when the headache did - but she shouldn't have to suffer like this... the insect bite is at least going down now.

Oh that is wicked. The BBC want pulling up on this.
DominaShantotto · 26/07/2020 14:43

The BBC reporting has been terrible throughout lots of this - so biased and determined to manipulate it's shocking.

Drivingdownthe101 · 26/07/2020 14:45

Well then I thought... if only 1% of British people followed the rules (as he claimed), but we still managed to ‘flatten the curve’... surely he was completely arguing us out of lockdown? He obviously wasn’t very bright.

Could not agree more. I have been very disappointed with them. Sensationalist hype worthy of the worst of the gutter press.
Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 26/07/2020 14:49

I hadn’t seen that story about 1%. Utter nonsense. Everyone thinks they’re the only ones thanks to the media when compliance is so high they’re having to bribe us to eat out again!

To be fair he was just some dimwit who was hit by the Spanish quarantine. Said it wasn’t fair as everyone was obeying the rules in Spain (he knew this from the few days he’d spent in one area) and 99% of people in the U.K. weren’t complying to he was more likely to catch covid here than he was there.
Drivingdownthe101 · 26/07/2020 14:57

I don’t mean he was a dimwit for being caught by the quarantine rules, he was just a dimwit in general.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 26/07/2020 15:01

@Drivingdownthe101- that’s a relief. Thank you! I think lots of people think compliance is low and they’re the only ones but most people I see are doing their best to comply

justasking111 · 26/07/2020 15:05

I feel sorry for folk who booked holidays months ago well before covid so were obliged to go or lose their money, now the media are having a go at them for not staying home masked, gloved, isolated. If I was them, stay enjoy your holiday you have earned it.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 26/07/2020 15:13

I feel sorry for people who have lost their holiday spend. It’s fine me the world of good to just see another horizon. Luckily I was UK based, but I don’t judge anyone who wants to go further afield. They were told it’d be ok and now it’s not. They must be gutted.

@InsaneInTheViralMembrane how about Jesus Bum Dog?

Drivingdownthe101 · 26/07/2020 15:15

Yes it’s shit, in laws have had to cancel their trip over to see us from Spain next week. MIL was sobbing as she hasn’t seen her grandkids since last year.
We were due to be in Spain last week but our flights were cancelled a couple of months ago. We were due to fly back yesterday lunchtime, landing mid afternoon so would have just missed having to quarantine!

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 26/07/2020 15:18

@Mascotte disappointing. They acquiesced too quickly. I was about to demand a diagram a la CF parking thread rules.
