@InsaneInTheViralMembrane I'd seen it before but honestly all I typed was Jesus bum dog and up it pops!

DominaShantotto · 26/07/2020 15:31

Oh my god I just spat coffee out at Jesus Bum Dog! Brilliant! Just what the internet was intended for - and not fecking Zoom macrame.

Drivingdownthe101 · 26/07/2020 15:34

This dog is judging Jesus bum dog.

Going to be serious for a minute.

I know herd immunity is seriously contentious although I always got the rationale behind it but understand why we backed off when we thought the Italian scenario was heading our way but surely it's different now?

We've got at least 4 viable treatment methods that I can think of - cpap, dexamethasone, remdesivir and now the beta interferon trial so shouldn't we be trying for herd immunity especially in our young?

The D's are always accusing us of being selfish but I suspect we're the opposite of selfish as we mostly agree that us getting it would probably be no biggie. Suspect I've had it but not worried about getting it, especially because I know I'm unlikely to get very ill and if I did I think they now have a good idea how to treat me.

Everyone is freaking out about cases on the rise and second spikes. I'm not because I'm not seeing a corresponding spike in hospital admissions, people on vents and deaths. Therefore when I see cases going up I think 'good'.

Am I nuts for having this view? Is there any validity to it?

@drivingdownthe101

My own parenting fail....my ds is obsessed with Freddie Mercury (fair enough) Sooooo he had been asking for ages if he can watch Bohemian Rhapsody. So I cave and we watch it together.
So I explain to him that there will be a lot of naughty words and hes not to repeat them (honestly I dont swear at home).
So theres a lot of "bloodys" and he looks horrified at that, theres a line where Freddie shouts "its time to get shitfaced" and DS gasps out loud "mummy he said shit!!".
So when later in the film he says "to be who I was born to be...a performer, Freddie Fucking Mercury" I did not expect his reaction to be.....
"So is that his full name?"
🤦‍♀️

Ibake · 26/07/2020 15:37

@Drivingdownthe101 busy writing my serious post and then your chihuahua in a wig is the first thing that greets me! I feel suitably judged.

Grin I could actually imagine DD1 saying to her teacher ‘I watched a film about Freddy Fucking Mercury last night’. She’d just assume it was his name too!

Ibake · 26/07/2020 15:44

@LivinLaVidaLoki to be fair you could have blagged that - Farrokh and Fucking are easily mixed up.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 26/07/2020 15:46

I’m trying to convince my dd that jahjah ding dong from Eurovision is inappropriate for school Kareoke next year! My Dh claimed it was fine but then checked the words 😂

incognitomum · 26/07/2020 15:50

LivinLaVidaLoki Grin I just howled at that and the dog jumped.

Am sat here watching dh put up the last of the wallpaper in the dining room. To be fair I have just come home from a 24 hour shift and am back there tomorrow. But it's nice sitting watching.

How's the weather? Looks like rain here. Been ok today though just windy.

TheOrchidKiller · 26/07/2020 15:50

@Ibake

Me too. A rise in cases does not necessarily equal an equivalent rise in deaths.
I'd like to know if there was a direct correlation, but I wouldn't necessarily trust the figures, given how everyone who's had covid is recorded as dying of it regardless- which makes me even less worried by spikes or whatever.

But as long as the numbers of cases are out there for all to see, the fear continues.

DominaShantotto · 26/07/2020 15:53

God I've got the news on for my limited fix I'm allowed each day (I used to quite often just have the news channel on for background noise during the daytime) and it's like a bunch of politicians doing a doomy version of the Three Yorkshiremen sketch about "no we're more doomed than that - we're going to be wearing facemasks for our underpants for the next century".... "you think we're getting a century? we're all going to have five heads from Covid by 2021"... "underpants? with the incoming global depression we're not going to be able to afford underpants!"

LivinLaVidaLoki · 26/07/2020 15:56

Bloody hell I never even thought of that.

Mascotte · 26/07/2020 16:00

@Ibake I wholly agree, it’s the consequences of infection which are of importance, like any disease.

Mascotte · 26/07/2020 16:02

On the wallpapering note, ds asked if he could paint his room himself to save me money 😍 I’d rather fork out though 😂

My view of the increase in numbers is that a lot of it will be down to increased and targeted testing in places where we know there are outbreaks. I'm sure there have been door to door tests done in Leicester or Blackburn which would have picked up people who were asymptomatic or who just felt "a bit under the weather" so would not have been previously tested.

I see it at the moment as a positive that track and test is working. Hopefully this increase will start to decrease again as the increased isolation from the increased testing breaks the chain of transmission.

Does that even make sense? Sorry!

Fabulous!! 😂😂😂

TheOrchidKiller · 26/07/2020 16:11

Mascotte
We let DD paint her room a few years ago. It looks ok now, after some intervention.

Being DD there was no prep at all. Came home to find clumps of paint hanging off the wall, which she hadn't washed down, & footprints on the uncovered carpet.

I thought it would be a good summer holiday anti-boredom project. How wrong I was!

Mascotte · 26/07/2020 16:14

@TheOrchidKiller 😂 that’s pretty much what I was envisaging! And I’m
Wholly incompetent myself.

iamapixie · 26/07/2020 16:16

I totally agree.
And frankly, either it is extremely contagious as claimed, in which case many of us out and about in big cities before lockdown will have had it, or it isn't. And I really can't help but think that the constant blighting on about how herd immunity is impossible and how no one is immune for more than a few weeks is just fear mongering nonsense.
Obviously on any other thread I would be asked whether I'm an expert in viruses and in case we're invaded I'll say right now that no, I'm not, but seriously, the whole 'you can catch it in the miasma and we'll all DIE in a second wave' at the same time as claiming that hardly anyone has actually had it yet and even if they have they can't possibly be immune is total nonsense.
Ah that feels better.

I agree with every word there!
PinkFondantFancy · 26/07/2020 16:19

@ibake I agree. Surely lots of cases but no change in death rate is a good thing actually?

@Mascotte I am gutted that situation resolved itself without a diagram!!!

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 26/07/2020 16:20

A friend has had the test and been confirmed as having short and long term immunity. That sounds pretty good to me!

BogRollBOGOF · 26/07/2020 16:27

LivinLaVidaLoki, Ibake, I agree with that. Our data on infections doesn't look great on paper, but it is because we are picking up mild and assymptomatic cases that many other countries miss.

In young, healthy adults, the virus seems to be fairly unremarkable. We are now pretty clear on the most vulnerable demographics and that it isn't a universal threat.

Too much hygiene and isolation is worrying as we know immune systems have to stay in use to be able to stay healthy. Another reason why I kept going out all along.

ineedaholidaynow · 26/07/2020 16:30

I wonder whether it is because they are testing younger people more now and in groups, so not necessarily just those with symptoms. Aren't they linking some of the rise in cases in Spain to opening nightclubs and South Korea had an issue with them too. So these people are less likely to be really ill with it.

It might be good if they can come up with a quick and easy way to test secondary/college pupils so they can be tested when they come in in the morning and if they are positive they go home even without symptoms, but you don't need to self isolate the whole class, year group, school unless there are hundreds of cases at the same time. But that would be no different to when local primaries have had to shut for a few days when they have a case of norovirus which they can't contain.

It might be carnage to start with or we might find that most pupils have already had it without knowing and it is not a problem after all.
