I will find what they said (Waitrose)

"From Friday 24 July, we’re asking you to follow the new government legislation on face coverings while shopping in our stores.

All customers, apart from children under 11 and those who have reasonable cause, such as a health condition, disability, physical or mental impairment, should wear a face mask, scarf or other covering. Not all exemptions are visible, so please be understanding of other shoppers.

You will also see our Partners in both Waitrose and John Lewis stores will be wearing face coverings. These will be worn by all Partners who are not exempt when they are in areas where two metre social distancing cannot be achieved or where other measures, such as screens, are not present."

This is the Government guidance for masks, it says that shops are encouraged to take reasonable steps to promote compliance with the law and can refuse entry if someone does not have a valid exemption.

It also says that a person does not have to have written proof that they have an exemption

Some people may feel more comfortable showing something that says they do not have to wear a face covering. This could be in the form of an exemption card, badge or even a home-made sign.

This is a personal choice and is not necessary in law.

Those who have an age, health or disability reason for not wearing a face covering should not be routinely asked to give any written evidence of this. Written evidence includes exemption cards.

So shops can refuse entry to someone who says they don't want to wear a mask but if they SAY they have an exemption the shop should accept this.

This thread is for support, discussion, chatting (and moaning) not for berating people for not doing as you think they should. If that's what you want to do - please go and do your arguing on the thousands of mask threads.

We welcome new posters on this thread every day - we don't judge others on this thread and we don't welcome anyone who does.

What a contradictory load of BS. In a shop where you are passing people for brief seconds you have to wear a mask but sitting inside for meals which can take hours is ok. Likewise huffing and puffing in a gym is ok. Walking into a restaurant to lick up.a take away you need a mask but sitting in the same room you don't. Retail staff dont have to wear them but emoyers can make you wear them anyway unless you have a medical reason. Behind plastic screens you don't have to but in our cafes we still have to wear them! Nobody can hear us and we can't hear customers. We soend more time poking our heads around the plastic wall than behind it yet we still have to wear a stupid mask! Checkout staff dont need to behind thier plastic walls!
There is not one piece of consistently sensible advice anywhere. Why are we swallowing this BS and why are people falling over themselves to believe it makes sense?

Willow2017 · 25/07/2020 18:28

Ha ha puck up not lick up!

DrearyWallAntler · 25/07/2020 18:28

Symbol badges and cards for disabled and other 'exempt' groups.

That's historically ended well.

After all it would only make sense to socially House those ones (as they are vulnerable) together as its the kind thing to do and then if there is an outbreak they can be safely locked down and protected....

@Willow2017 Should you be licking up takeaways during a pandemic? GrinGrinGrin

Absolutely after cooking 200+ family meals Grin
justasking111 · 25/07/2020 18:38

Well I am off to lick up a takeaway and a few fortune cockies if I am lucky. Grin

Willow2017 · 25/07/2020 18:39

If it was my fave Chinese takeaway I would be licking it up in a heaetbeat🤣

BamboozledandBefuddled · 25/07/2020 18:40

@BogRollBOGOF Fair point Grin

Orangeblossom78 · 25/07/2020 18:44

It really is a nonsense isn't it. Welcome to long summer lunches the campaign says...such a muddle. Was not trying to argue over challenging people just clarifying what shops would do...
I hope we can keep these threads from turning into the rest of the site...

ButterMeCrumpets · 25/07/2020 18:44

I love Chinese takeaways but the ones close to me aren't that good and the last few times I have really regretted it.

Previous place I used to live in was surrounded by really good ones and I used to rotate them as I felt obliged to go to them all Grin

Orangeblossom78 · 25/07/2020 18:45

I'm about to lick up a waitrose red thai curry, yum

Has anyone else found the will to cook has gone and living on nice ready meals?

TheOrchidKiller · 25/07/2020 18:46

DH said he'd been in ASDA a while today when he remembered he wasn't wearing the mask he had brought with him. This is typical of him, (as is not noticing if anyone is giving him death stares).

The daft sod thought he'd better put it on to pay & walk out of the shop. Then he put it back in his pocket where it will no doubt stay until next time he remembers.

This is one reason why it's pointless.

Ibake · 25/07/2020 18:47

Just seen on BBC (I know, I know we all agree to delete the beeb app!) that Spain been added back to the quarantine list. Bugger. Got friends there right now.

ButterMeCrumpets · 25/07/2020 18:47

I'm not living off ready meals but I am having more 'snacky' type meals. Current favourite is fancy crackers with cheese, salami and salad.

Not ready meals but we're mostly living on salad as I need to lose some weight DH has a daily protest about 'rabbit food' and has a supply of emergency chocolate. He doesn't put weight on Hmm

Yes! Three this week. And they weren't even that nice but I've run out of imagination. If anyone has any complaints in this house they know what they can do about it!

We are due to stay with friends in Bristol on our way to Devon next weekend... they’ve flown to Spain today and get back on Friday so there’s our plans gone out the window! Trying to find a hotel now instead. Also the in laws were due to arrive from Spain the day we get back from Devon, which they will have to cancel. It’s all shit.
Orangeblossom78 · 25/07/2020 18:53

I have stuttered getting the same ones each week. Sweet and sour chicken Friday, red thai curry Sat and veggie curries Sunday. Then grazing type things like pasta or quiche mid week. So bored of cooking.

Orangeblossom78 · 25/07/2020 18:55

My neighbour in her 80s is in Majorca (oddly seems called Mallorca now) so will need to as well. She kind of does anyway though.

The worse bit......its a Council sign. Kind of. Produced jointly by the council and the local businesses improvement team or whatever they are called now.
