Amber Heard & Johnny Depp....Your thoughts?

I have seen this in the news over the past couple of days and wasn't really sure what to think. It sounds to me like a very volatile relationship and it may be that they are both abusers. Or at the least they are completely incompatible with each other.

Today I noticed that Amber Heard was walking into court and she had a scarf around her face. Then she removed the scarf and smiled for everyone and waved and seemed to enjoy the cameras being there. It's just an observation but maybe the accusations of her being a narcissist could be accurate? Or is she maybe trying to put a brave face on it all under what must be a very stressful situation for all concerned?

Johnny Depp kept his mask on but was also waving for the cameras I should add.

Anyway, I'm well aware it's none of my business really, it was just something I had thought about after seeing the news today and wondered what others thought!

I seem to recall there were texts from AH's parents to JD which acknowledged that she had fabricated the battered face. I'm sure they will come up in court.

I read about him admitting he’d head l-butted her ‘in self defence’ and thought they’ve probably got him if he hasn’t got similarly conclusive proof she battered him. I’ve not seen anywhere her admitting she has hurt him only his word for that.

If that’s true feenie that’ll turn the case around again.

jD comes out looking awful either way, surrounded by a coterie of on the make panderers.

Pretty sure there's audio of her saying "I hit you, I didn't punch you, I hit you" or something very similar.

My god it is amazing that he was prepared to let all this stuff come out in court! Even if anyone remembered what The Sun said (????) silence would've surely been better. Very poorly advised by his lawyers.

Yes I'm surprised, he's always seemed extremely private over the years so I can only assume he's been very poorly advised OR he's gone against his advice and decided he knows best. It's very bizarre, and I can understand trying to clear your name.. but I'm not sure this is actually doing that?

Did all this stuff come out in the original court proceedings between them? I don't seem to remember all this only snippets.

Paul Bettany is a friend of JD and they often took drugs together. They exchanged a series of repulsive texts where JD suggests burning amber to death and raping her corpse to make sure she was dead. Then PB suggested drowning her. It was a really disgusting exchange.

I bet JD will say it was just a joke. I wonder how he would feel if his daughters boyfriend was “joking” about her in such a vile manner. Something tells me he wouldn’t be ok with it then.

Given the extent of his drug taking it would be impossible for him to know if he'd hit her surely?

There are tapes where ah taunts jd, saying no one will belive him that she hit him, he repeatedly says he tries to move away from her when she flips.. She then calls him a coward for '' splitting ''

I wondered this too. There are photos of him collapsed on the floor after blacking out. I don’t see how he can be 100% sure of his recollection of events if he was off his head to the point of blacking out

It’s a civil (defamation) case, not a criminal trial.

Lawyer here :) diminished responsibility is a defence to murder. This is a defamation trial and Depp is the claimant. The Sun printed an article in which they repeated Heard’s claims that he had been physically violent to her and called him a wife-bearer, which is the claimed defamatory statement. Depp has brought the case and if successful that will involve the judge concluding that the statements are false and awarding damages for the detriment to his reputation. Damages in defamation can be huge, by the way. It’s a defence to a claim in defamation if the statements are true, which is why the trial is focusing on what actually happened. Courts make binary decisions - they decide that it did or didn’t happen based on the balance of probabilities, which means that if it was more likely than not that it did happen, legally, it happened. So if the judge decides that Depp was violent, it doesn’t matter whether he was off his face or drunk or hallucinating or impulsive or planned it all in advance - if the article was true, it’s not defamatory.

Neither of them is coming out of it at all well. I don’t know what I think of it, really, except that even abusive relationships are not necessarily completely blameless on the abused side (I’ve been in several and around several so I hope that doesn’t offend). It’s possible that Depp was violent when he abused substances, which is awful and nothing Heard could have done would merit it, and that she also manipulated and goaded him, or was after his money. That last bit of evidence today, the recording where he was asking Heard to cut him, made my hair stand on end, that’s not something you do or say if you are well or balanced in any way.

The texts will have been disclosed in evidence and are put to the witnesses during examination and cross-examination, and as it’s an open court journalists are reporting about them. Also I believe Amber Heard has disclosed some of them to the media anyway.
