Well I should finally get an answer on my redudancy today. If I don't I'm handing my notice in and starting my new job at the end of the month. Woohoo normality! Woohoo not paying nursery bills from a furlough wage! Woohoo other people that are not dp!!

SeaOtterFluff · 03/07/2020 09:06

Waves from East Midlands. I got NT tickets this morning. Much prefer the house to the gardens but something is better than nothing....

Mascotte · 03/07/2020 09:14

@TrustTheGeneGenie hope it's good news.

@Lickyicelollies I was going to drive to Glasgow today with DS but it's such a miserable day I don't think we will bother. Also wanted to go before the muzzles.

Bollss · 03/07/2020 09:17

Thank you @Mascotte Smile

KaronAVyrus · 03/07/2020 09:20

I’m going to go shopping for bits and bobs next week and then will only be doing online shopping from there on in. I’m not wearing a face mask if I can help it.

Shodan · 03/07/2020 09:22

Might go and have a tantrum instead of working @NothingIsWrong Go for it. Slam some doors. Shout a lot. Use Bad Swears. You'll feel better after, I guarantee.

@TrustTheGeneGenie Fingers crossed for good news for you today.

Bollss · 03/07/2020 09:27

Thank you @Shodan I'll let you all know when I find out! Either way it will feel like a weight has been lifted.

iamapixie · 03/07/2020 09:28

Hello!

Disposableplates · 03/07/2020 09:33

Hi all I'm a Scottish lurker, and wanted to say hi.
I went shopping last night and the shops were really quiet, even braved Next and hardly anyone was wearing a mask too.

I have ordered some as my office as made them mandatory, but unlikely to be back there till next year!

BarkandCheese · 03/07/2020 09:34

👋 to all other Kentish maids and maids of Kent.

DD has an optician appointment today, we have to wear masks for this and it’ll be the very first time I’ve actually worn one despite having made a butt load of them.

I spoke to my sister in Leicester yesterday, she is not happy at having her hair appointment postponed. She lives right on the edge of the “red zone” as well, about as far from the outbreak as you can get. Apparently police are doing spot checks on people and number plates to make sure they’re not breaking the boundaries. I didn’t ever think I’d see something like that in England in my lifetime.

ButterMeCrumpets · 03/07/2020 09:41

If they make masks mandatory for shops in England I will just continue internet shopping.

I will put one on for the hairdresser as I have no other option but for shopping I can easily continue that in the comfort of my home. I suspect quite a few people will do the same which isn't going to help the high street.

NannyPhlegm · 03/07/2020 09:45

I'm starting to think those in charge are deliberately destroying the high street.

I see the benefits in face coverings on short-distance public transport and at hair dressers, but not for shopping.

Same goes for restaurants and cafes. I've heard that in Spain, customers are to wear masks while queuing and entering a restaurant, but then take it off once seated. Does anyone know the logic behind that? Is it that other mitigation measures are in place at the tables? I'm not being goady, it's a genuine question

ineedaholidaynow · 03/07/2020 09:51

@NannyPhlegm I assume the tables and chairs will be placed to enable sufficient SD. You obviously can't wear a mask whilst eating and drinking, but you do need to put the mask on again if you go to the toilet or move around the restaurant for other reasons. The staff will also be wearing masks.

Mascotte · 03/07/2020 09:54

My theory on masks is that they are beloved by those who are scared and are being used to try to encourage them back out.

They are also now a kind of trendy virtue signal in certain quarters.

I would say that most people have no idea whatsoever about the hygiene needed to make them in any way useful and have no interest in knowing. They also seem convinced masks protect them.

There's talk in Nottingham of demanding proof of address to go to the pub to make sure no one's coming up from Leicester for a pint, and they're monitoring the train stations as well and sending the Leicester lot back home or fining them.

It's terrifyingly dystopian - but people seem to be loving it.

Mascotte · 03/07/2020 09:55

Best quote I've seen on Fb:

"Better go into a shop with a mask on than into Heaven without"

Ibake · 03/07/2020 09:55

@nannyphlegm. I guess if I was feeling charitable it's maybe a number of factors. All these people in charge around the world are just people like you and I, facing a totally new situation. The science is utterly divided and I think they genuinely don't know the best thing to do. I find myself 'testing' my behaviour, and the rest of this group constantly. Are we as dementory in our non-dementoriness iyswim? Because when I see how many people apparently support tougher measures I wonder who's right? Personally I think this group is not far off the mark from all the reading I've now done - but I would say that wouldn't I? But when you see govts around the world making decisions that are so harmful to their economies you do wonder why? Wish Swedish wasn't such a hard language to learn, I think I'd culturally fit right in there!

BogRollBOGOF · 03/07/2020 09:56

I hate the amazon advert where they talk through their masks (about their wonderful employer Hmm )and it's sucky in and outy with their breath. It's skin crawling. Eurgh.

Allflightscancelled · 03/07/2020 09:57

@Mascotte Hmm

Erm, sorry if this has been covered but have they changed the way they are measuring cases in areas?

Because I looked up cases in my area first thing this morning and it was 844. The look up tool has just appeared again and now it's 1,315 Confused

So then I looked up Dorset, which has been on 373 for several days. and now it's 597.

mightbealittlebitmad · 03/07/2020 09:58

So I've just been told that my pub/restaurant/hotel has cancelled all events up until next June...

Orangeblossom78 · 03/07/2020 09:58

Had a bit of a difficult encounter with a friend yesterday. She is vulnerable and disabled, asked me to put her dogs lead on while I bumped into them in the park.

But then she exclaimed oh no, you better not! as I was clipping it on and now I am feeling like a potential murderer again. She said maybe text and meet again but if meetings are full of worry maybe better give it a miss for a while I think. She kept kind of scooting backwards with the mobility scooter as well and I think it stressed her out. Sad what all this has done to us all really

Grin not sure I’ll be making heaven anyway, with all the murdering I’ve been doing!
Ibake · 03/07/2020 09:59

@allflightscancelled I'm trying to dig on this too. Think it's possibly something to do with pillar 1 and 2 and the 30,000 drop in cases yesterday and why the data was so late but currently all the Sakora statto geeks seem to be struggling to make sense of it - and they're all far cleverer than me!

Orangeblossom78 · 03/07/2020 10:01

Our numbers have jumped up too, 336 from 233 strange, must be something in the reporting

They seem to always do this - the numbers drop to a tolerable level so they move goalposts to ramp them back up and keep justifying the hell.
