Sorry it’s a bit of a lame title.

On an entirely different subject, my daughter let me cuddle her, her son and the baby yesterday!
My grandson is not naturally a cuddly child but when I said mummy said you can give me a cuddle he threw himself into my arms, said how lovely to cuddle me after all this time and he'd missed it. Cuddling the squishy fat baby for the first time in months nearly made me cry, she's so lush. I'm looking after her soon when my daughter returns to work so she's got to get used to me again, can't wait!

@TheFirstRuleOfADClub

Isn't the BSL thing interesting, I know very few people, outside the deaf community, who sign and yet here we are on this thread! I think it would be great if more people learnt it as it makes life so much easier for BSL users, especially with the masks, especially on public transport (although one of the exemptions is for being with someone who is lip reading). It's such a useful skill, I wish it would be a language option in schools.
My daughter is a sign language interpreter, and she'd agree with you. For a variety of reasons we all sign to varying degree, no deaf people in the family, we just wanted to learn. Very handy once when asking dd a question through the window!
trappedsincesundaymorn · 04/07/2020 15:48

I taught DD some BSL when she was younger (I hadn't used it in a while so was a bit rusty). When she got to secondary school she asked if there was a club that taught it after school. She was told "no" so she campaigned to start one. By the time she left after her A levels, it was one of the most popular after school clubs running. I believe the school still runs it and DD left 10 years ago now.

Nihiloxica · 04/07/2020 15:54

Wow trapped, that awesome. Well done your DD.

I have often wondered why BSL isn't a language option. It's both practically useful and teaches you to think through a new way of communicating, which is one of the powerful things about learning a new language.

That must have been so wonderful. It amazes me that there are still those out there that are happy for people to miss out on moments like that. I often wonder if the same people are those who have their children living with them so don't get the sadness that not being able to hug children or grandchildren.

Drivingdownthe101 · 04/07/2020 15:57

Just walked past the playground at the end of the road and the padlock has gone! Woo! Sadly the kids are at my mums but we’ll be down there first thing in the morning 😀

ButterMeCrumpets · 04/07/2020 15:58

Just back from an emergency trip to morrisons for wine and cake Grin. No queues, no one way system and only a handful of people in masks (non of the staff). Felt almost normal except for the big screens either side of the handbasket self checkouts that I managed to walk straight into Blush

PickAChew · 04/07/2020 16:00

Well Dr Rick O’Shea's parents had a sense of humour when they named him Richard :o

SeagoingSexpot · 04/07/2020 16:13

Go nothing! I'll be murdering away in your wake as soon as I can!

Ibake · 04/07/2020 16:13

Cheers @nothing! I have decided to continue to intellectually challenge myself with my viewing choices and have just started that Eurovision Will Ferrell thing. 10 mins in and pure, unadulterated joy imho.

incognitomum · 04/07/2020 16:13

Me too. 2 pints of real ale and am now in a yurt.

TheFirstRuleOfADClub · 04/07/2020 16:14

@Supermarketworker06 Please could I ask a question re your DIL being an interpreter? Do you think there will be a higher demand for interpreters/CSWs etc as people who rely on lip reading are going to struggle so much more in situations where masks are worn eg healthcare? I'm seriously wondering if it's worth DH going further with his signing, he is Level 3 atm but obviously the courses are so expensive.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 04/07/2020 16:14

Buy????? "But" obviously...although that "buy" may have been a fraudulent slip.

TheFirstRuleOfADClub · 04/07/2020 16:14

And @trappedsincesundaymorn that's amazing - good for your DD!

TheFirstRuleOfADClub · 04/07/2020 16:18

"2 pints of real ale and am now in a yurt."

Surely this has to be a contender for a thread title

PS also, you all fail at Dry January!

(@Cattermole I hope my post isn't too insensitive, please let me know if so! Personally I don't like it when people avoid talking about drinking in front of me. I imagine this is a difficult time for lots of people though as every second word in every sentence at the moment seems to be "pub")

Christ I'm dementing all over this thread aren't I Blush

iamapixie · 04/07/2020 16:18

Oooh are they actually glass glasses?
As I'm a miserable bean-eating environmental-dementor, I'm struggling with the plastic glass thing and can't decide which is more important: my 'support local business' stance or my 'save the planet' stance. It's making my brain pop.
(out in the wild, it has been said that our understanding of Covid is 'abysmal'. Grin)

LivinLaVidaLoki · 04/07/2020 16:26

Just saw a headline "death toll raises by 39 as restrictions eased further"
Yes because they all went to the pub this morning at 6am (wetherspoons obvs), got pissed, got covid, got tested, needed a ventilator and died today

Fucks sake.

Someone commented that its low so the govt must be massaging the figures. My response of "dont worry public health England will be here soon to dollop another 150 from March in there too" did not go down well....

Cattermole · 04/07/2020 16:29

DClub not squeamish at all about other people drinking as long as they don't hurt themselves or anybody else in the doing of it Grin mum doesn't enjoy it, that's the bugger of it - if she had a good time getting pissed I'd say crack right on ....

I, on the other hand, am going to the Eden Project tomorrow for a spot of light murdering. There will sadly be no paella as the kitchen isn't open till Monday, but I will take a rucksack of butties and look like a sad twat....

TheGreatWave · 04/07/2020 16:32

Well the sea front was wonderful. It was, just, so unremarkable. As in families on the beach, children in the play area, queues for fish and chips and ice creams.

Just how it should be. And then the little micro pub near home was heaving again, like it always was. Smile

incognitomum · 04/07/2020 16:33

There's a family in a tent playing some shit music with banging base so they're now being entertained by Pat Benatar 😁🎵
