Sorry it’s a bit of a lame title.

Love a bit of Pat Benatar 🎶

incognitomum · 04/07/2020 16:37

I accidentally posted on a D thread.

Fuckers turned theirs up so ACDC it is 😁

Alwaysfrank · 04/07/2020 16:39

That Pearl Jam clip is amazing, so beautiful. I then looked at the comments to see that the lovely lady in question very sadly died in 2015, at 39. That really was a sad death.

Mrsfrumble · 04/07/2020 16:43

Islington council are miserable bastards.

ADs getting ready
InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 04/07/2020 16:44

@LivinLaVidaLoki

Just saw a headline "death toll raises by 39 as restrictions eased further" Yes because they all went to the pub this morning at 6am (wetherspoons obvs), got pissed, got covid, got tested, needed a ventilator and died today

Fucks sake.

Someone commented that its low so the govt must be massaging the figures. My response of "dont worry public health England will be here soon to dollop another 150 from March in there too" did not go down well....

😂 That’s the kind of pestilence we’re looking for!
Lickyicelollies · 04/07/2020 16:44

Just home after a murderous shopping trip to Glasgow City centre with my two children. We went on the train for the sheer thrill of taking a non-essential journey and I was pleased to see the majority of travellers paying no heed to the mask rule. There were queues outside Primark and Marks and Spencer but we walked straight into Debenhams. Bizarre how the make up counters there looked like they had been ransacked. TK Maxx was shut for some reason (has it gone into administration?). I got a book in Waterstones and some stationery in WHSmiths. Very few toilets open in shops which is not great but I was pleased to see people acting normally and not too many government muzzles on display.
@Supermarketworker06 Please could I ask a question re your DIL being an interpreter? Do you think there will be a higher demand for interpreters/CSWs etc as people who rely on lip reading are going to struggle so much more in situations where masks are worn eg healthcare? I'm seriously wondering if it's worth DH going further with his signing, he is Level 3 atm but obviously the courses are so expensive.
She's at level 3 now, about to do level 6 and yes, it's very expensive. She now works in a school with a lot of deaf children as a translator/ interpreter, tho technically she's not called that, just it's easier to describe if people are not aware of the varying levels of qualifications. Previously she worked with deaf/ blind people, which involves a whole different ball game. After her level 6, then she can take official translator or interpreter qualifications (2 different things, who knew?) which again are even more expensive.
Masks make speech very muffled and I don't think people realise how much they unconsciously lip read; I know I do but I'm aware my hearing in one ear is a bit below par, even tho I've had a hearing test and apparently it's fine!
The problem with BSL is that it's not out in the community, and it's mostly used by deaf people and hearing people needing to communicate and explain to them, as in my daughter. There's been a groundswell of opinion in recent years that it should be a language option in schools , alongside French, German, Spanish etc and hopefully one day it will. Finding people to teach it might be an issue as it's quite niche but if I was at school I'd jump at the chance. All my years of French lessons have been no use to me, though that's not to say for others that's the case, but it would be good to have the option.
In my job, occasionally I see deaf customers and it's great when I can sign with them. I've only done to level 1 and some years ago so I'm rusty but at least I try!
Sorry, that was a bit long and ranty but it's something my daughter and I are quite passionate about.

Littlebelina · 04/07/2020 16:52

Our tkmaxx was open last week (with an inconveniently placed queue)

trappedsincesundaymorn · 04/07/2020 16:53

I've just shot down a FB dementor regarding face masks. The original post went along the lines of:

"Unless you suffer from chronic asthma there is no reason NOT to wear a face mask. You're either ignorant or selfish!!"

I then went into graphic detail of what would happen to Mr Trapped (as I now call him....your fault Grin ), should he be wearing one and suffer a seizure. The post has gone now.

Sorry, to answer one part of your question- yes BSL would help but the people who need to be helped would have to know BSL for it to be useful, IYSWIM.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 04/07/2020 16:59

Honestly @InsaneInTheViralMembrane I just really can't be arsed even trying to be serious with them anymore.

Fucking fun sponges.

Allflightscancelled · 04/07/2020 17:03

I've just shown DH the pics of beers on pub tables and now he's got a very wistful expression

LivinLaVidaLoki · 04/07/2020 17:03

Feel like I'm on a roll now....
FB dementor ranting on about mask wearing to prevent infection.

I point out that given chlamydia has more infections per 100,000 people and rising each year, maybe attention should be focused on getting people to wear condoms first.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 04/07/2020 17:04

I'm weirdly enjoying myself.

Mascotte · 04/07/2020 17:04

Ooh, @Supermarketworker06 that's lovely

MaxNormal · 04/07/2020 17:05

Some classic dementoring on a fb page dedicated to pretty pictures in Scotland, about how we can all fuck off and are not welcome on the Western Isles with our dirty English/Central Belt germs.

I do get that medical facilities are limited up there, but funnily enough being airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth in Glasgoow is more than good enough for them when it's anything serious.

There was some of this shite here with people on the North Coast demanding people from Belfast stay away.

Even though NI is a single health authority and the Covid hospital anyone from the North Coast would be going to, local or not, was IN BELFAST. 🙄

It's an hour by car FFS. Not in any way like bringing your germs to some remote area with uncontacted tribes.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 04/07/2020 17:16

I just had a nice walk around the village - didn’t wear a government muzzle in the shop. All the kids are playing together in the play park and a couple of dads were sat next to each other on the bench chatting. Don’t know if the pub is open, but the play park should murder enough.

AgentCooper · 04/07/2020 17:19

Checking in. In Scotland so still Black Death alert up here but I have taken my DS to FOUR different playgrounds this week and it was brilliant.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 04/07/2020 17:21

I like "government muzzle" @insaneintheviralmembrane we've been calling them "chin slings" or "vanity hammocks"

AgentCooper · 04/07/2020 17:21

@MaxNormal ffs you’re more likely to snuff it setting foot in the QEUH than to catch coronavirus. That place is the Death Star.

Supermarketworker06 · 04/07/2020 17:25

@Mascotte

Ooh, *@Supermarketworker06* that's lovely
Thank you, I get quite emotional thinking about it. Squeezing those fat little knees (baby's, not my daughter's!), sniffing her hair (everyone does that with babies, not just me?), feeling the bones of my grandson, bloody great! Next week I'm spending the day there to get the hang of the baby's routine so I can look after them on my own the following week when my daughter goes into work for that day. Can't wait.
Lickyicelollies · 04/07/2020 17:25

Ha ha @AgentCooper I work there and that's what I call it!

AgentCooper · 04/07/2020 17:48

@Lickyicelollies sorry Grin I’ll pray for you. Use the force!!

SomewhereEast · 04/07/2020 17:51

@SeagoingSexpot

Happy Super Saturday anti-Ds. I have a haircut booked for next Friday and have re-engaged my cleaner, which brings me joy despite the fact that I am languishing with a bad cold.

Where would you all go for a week in Europe at the end of August with two DC 5 and under? We've decided that we do want to give the DC a week of holiday that includes some beaches and pools, preferably not too expensive and needing to be self catering. We did Eurocamp in a mobile home on the Riviera previously which I liked but DH was a bit less impressed.

We were going to go to Portugal in May (sadly cancelled) because its very affordable & obvs has miles upon miles of beaches. Friends have had lovely chilled holidays in Sardinia & I keep meaning to check that out too. Obviously Portugal depends on it coming off the Gov's shit list though!
