@justasking111 OFFICIALLY then yes.... I actually only did it so if it persists until next week (unlikely as she's perked up courtesy of the Magic Strawberry Syrup of Joy) then I can still get her in nursery.

Thanks for mastitis. Bloody horrible.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 04/07/2020 13:00

At the risk of coming across dementory, for those of you heading to Heathrow - proceed with caution. I have a pal flew out to Spain the week they went in to lockdown (yeh... it WAS already in the news) - she got back to Scotland on Thursday! She’d tried multiple times with flights being cancelled at the last minute. 16 weeks in total.

justasking111 · 04/07/2020 13:03

Looks like localised lockdowns are here to stay. One in Melbourne, the people who live there are not allowed out for any reason at all everything to be brought in for them. Ditto in a region of Spain lockdown, only allowed for essentials. Have seen the police in Spain with their guns I would certainly COMPLY as the borg queen would say

bookworm14 · 04/07/2020 13:07

My in-laws live on the Isles of Scilly, where gig racing is huge - they host the world championships every year. Sadly cancelled this year of course, along with everything else vaguely fun.

countrygirl99 · 04/07/2020 13:10

I could cope with mask wearing as an alternative to lockdown.

SomewhereEast · 04/07/2020 13:11

@Mrsfrumble

I think a lot of the more strident mask meme-ing and dementoring is filtering over from the US, where in many states there hasn’t been much of a lockdown, rather an approach of carrying on as normal but with a face mask on. So understandably a bit more of an issue, especially as some states are only seeing their first really big spike in cases now (like Texas and Arizona).
I think you're right about masks. American mask use has become detached from any actual evidence too. For example Pennsylvania insist on everyone wearing a mask anywhere 'in public', outdoors as well in, which is total overkill in terms of transmission risks.
justasking111 · 04/07/2020 13:12

I am sorry folk are having problems in supermarkets with following arrows, whatever, nasty hissing and comments. Things are fairly chilled here in Wales, perhaps because we are in this giant welsh bubble, it may change next week when our borders open and the dementors look sideways at anyone who does not sound welsh which around here is daft because so many are from other areas of NW england and moved here decades ago.

justasking111 · 04/07/2020 13:20

Friends are in Miami, with a new baby and a toddler, got stuck there 3 months ago, they are being so careful, but not in the majority which makes it hard for them, they have to be so careful because others are not and the covid cases are scary.

BubbleIsNotAFuckingVerb · 04/07/2020 13:22

Hurrah MrTrapped Forgive me for a dementory moment Wink DH used to work in a very high end food place and apparently the place was fucking disgusting Shock I'm sure things are cleaner at the moment though!

Linking in nicely to the Summer of Death ™️ that sounds like a Sisters of Mercy song, obviously our last thread was prophetic! Or maybe Fields Of the Nephilim (probably spelt that wrongly!)

Well if anyone wants a break from being shouted at in shops and would prefer to be Literally Killed with Looks of Death, may I recommend joining the back of the (very long Hmm) M & S queue in a wheelchair and the security guard beckoning you to the front? Oh it was great, just for the pissing people off moment Grin Also, Aldi let me go first when a new check out opened up. Again, Looks of Death. You'd have to be some sad fucker to be envious of someone in a fucking wheelchair! Hmm

I'm actually awaiting the AIBU I was queuing for M and S and someone got in first as they were in a wheelchair so they were sitting down and I was standing up? it's not fair"

Nihiloxica · 04/07/2020 13:27

Six! Eight rowers in a gig is actually illegal. Did you know that? Because a well trained crew of more than six was actually able to outrun and evade a coastguard cutter, and it's one of those laws which was never repealed. Gig rowing is very big down here.

OMG that is fascinating.

I love this thread. Smile

I would love to visit the Isles of Scilly one day. I love islands. Hence honeymooning in the Western Isles.

Everything about Covid has become massively politicised in the US.

Right from the start people were blaming Donald Trump for the deaths from Covid (in a slightly similar way to people blaming "Boris" for deaths.

And it was like "I know you really hate him and enjoy spending your time making sure everybody knows it, but you understand that people are dying of a virus and not actually being murdered by a politician you hate?"

Believing the virus to be the most deadly EVAR but also blaming Trump for it seemed to come from the same school of political consistency as "UK government of incompetent liars and proto-fascists please lock us up".

DominaShantotto · 04/07/2020 13:29

I am in the hairdressers with a head full of bleach and it feels bloody good!

HesterShaw1 · 04/07/2020 13:29

Oh how lovely. There a three dickheads standing on a bridge on the A30 with a giant fuck off sign.

How embarrassing 😡😡😡

So many youg men people are using The Situation as an excuse to be even more obnoxious than usual.

HesterShaw1 · 04/07/2020 13:36

@Nihiloxica the Scillies are lovely! Take shit tons of money though. They Scillonians are even more after your money than the Cornish!

Mrsfrumble · 04/07/2020 13:38

I think masks in the US are also very politicised. Generally refusers are Trump supporters, so anyone who doesn’t want to be so aligned not only feels obliged to wear a mask, but to shout about it too.*

  • I’m not an expert, but we used to live over there in a very “red” state so I’m quite interested in how things are playing out.

Is that the road into Cornwall? Shock

God almighty.

Like you say, this virus is the best ever pretext for being an antisocial twat.

110APiccadilly · 04/07/2020 13:39

@justasking111 I have lived in Wales all my life and even speak Welsh fluently. I don't have a Welsh accent when I speak English though so people often assume I'm an incomer. (Sometimes I let them right up until the point they say something embarrassing in Welsh in front of me.)

Nihiloxica · 04/07/2020 13:41

😂

Looks like the Cornish no longer want my money.

My Celtic brethren telling me to fuck off 😭

HesterShaw1 · 04/07/2020 13:42

Yep A30 is the main route into Cornwall.

There are also Photos of Traffic Doom all over the Cornwall Live website when if you look at the actual live webcams, traffic is moving freely

Mrsfrumble · 04/07/2020 13:43

HesterShaw excuse my ignorance but what’s on the A30 that we need to fuck off from? Also thanks to your username I picture you as bemasked anyway.

ADs getting ready
HesterShaw1 · 04/07/2020 13:43

It's not the Cornish, it's three little shits giving everyone else a bad name.

Bet they have never even heard of Northern Ireland let alone feel any Celtic affinity.

Mrsfrumble · 04/07/2020 13:45

Oops, x post! As a Londoner I can’t get my head round the hostility to outsiders attitude.

Cattermole · 04/07/2020 13:45

@HesterShaw1 I shall expect to see them imminently, then.
I do hope whichever of my colleagues is going to be seeing them in court nails their ears to the wall.

justasking111 · 04/07/2020 13:46

Wait till the scots and welsh set about you. Me I live 45 mins from Holyhead seriously considering hopping on the boat to Ireland, I am 3/4 mick as they say

Nihiloxica · 04/07/2020 13:46

Awesome Grin

It embarrasses the shit out of me when people use Irish as a "secret" language abroad for being rude about people.

Like it's an actual real language, people (admittedly not that many, but still) speak it all over the world.

RubberDinghyRapids · 04/07/2020 13:50

@BubbleIsNotAFuckingVerb
The ONE time I have even considered using my ID badge to queue jump at Tesco, I dithered in the queue for 40 minutes, then by the time I thought "no actually, I really will be late for work in a minute and everyone else queueing looks patient and/or of retirement age so probably aren't".... the person I would have gone in front of was in a wheelchair. Bang went that idea 😂 I can imagine the anti-NHS post on Facebook now....

For everyone who's had a bad experience in Tesco, you can (and should) send in your customer feedback. Details are on the bottom of your receipt and there's a code for which store you were in. They've added lots of Covid stuff recently, all pre-loaded with assumptions "what did we do to make you feel safe" etc. I clicked 'other' on that one so I could explain I didn't need to be made to feel safe but understand others do. And to demand better stock of Orange and Mango squash. It's clearly the most popular so why not get more in?! Grrrr!
