Sorry it’s a bit of a lame title.

Re the masks it’s just being seen to be doing something - showing you CARE.

Pure performance - after all no one can see if you wash your hands (though if they made soap that stained your hands blue that would be next thing .... FFS just have BLUE hands) or are careful with social distancing. Wearing a mask wandering around town is literally the least important thing you can do but it’s visible so it’s obviously vital. All about the signalling.

Willow2017 · 04/07/2020 12:11

Aww heck just had a bacon butty. Nearly finished and discovered a bit of mould!
I am doomed aren't I?

IAintentDead · 04/07/2020 12:12

@Torydeathdrug
@Wishfulthinking
@Incognitomum
@SpnBaby1967
@trappedsincesundaymorn

All added to the Roll Call. I need area for @incognitomum and can someone give me the 'general area' for Reading - I've a vague idea where it is but not what area it comes under.

Is there anyone else that would like to be added. I need your name and general area - then town second home or clarification if wanted.

Nihiloxica · 04/07/2020 12:13

Yeah, it's like a sign saying "I am a GOOD person" (according to ME).

after all no one can see if you wash your hands (though if they made soap that stained your hands blue that would be next thing .... FFS just have BLUE hands

Grin perfect. You are so right.

Nihiloxica · 04/07/2020 12:15

Thanks for adding me @IAintentDead Smile

Allflightscancelled · 04/07/2020 12:17

@Nihiloxica

What is a "row" in this context? Is it like bingo? Or rowing a boat?

It's rowing a boat. Lyme has a gig club. A 'gig' is like a very big rowing boat, with six (or it may be 8) people with great big oars, plus a cox. Lots of the places on the south coast have these clubs and the teams row competitively on the sea. My DH is a member but as he's late 50s and we are only in Lyme occasionally, he's not a competitive team member, just one of the social rowers.

BogRollBOGOF · 04/07/2020 12:18

3 playgrounds open.

One has a sign saying only 5 people in it at a time...
There's 4 swings, a seesaw and a slide tower Confused But it is open.

Still no public toilets on thr horizon... spoke to another council worker who said it's still being discussed and they would need to be manned Hmm I said "I'll go and find a bush then..." yeah, that's healthier. (I'd love to have a mid-run face wash too)

Town has a little vibe to it. Lots of police patrolling.

This is a slow run... Grin

BakewellTarts · 04/07/2020 12:18

Congratulations Mr @trappedsincesundaymorn high end deserts sound great.

Exciting morning labelling DDs clothes. They are meant to have a holiday away from us mid August and the organisers are optimistic that it will go ahead so want to be prepared.

And yes wear a mask is the new stay at home. All over FB this morning.

BogRollBOGOF · 04/07/2020 12:19

I suppose I'd better jog on and get panting again Grin

LivinLaVidaLoki · 04/07/2020 12:19

@FizzFan

Corona deaths vs malaria / diarrhoea / poverty makes me want to pick fights, to see if I can get someone to admit out loud that old, white people’s lives matter more poor, black children’s.

Yes this

This! 100% @NoisyBrain I have family in Crete it's my favourite place.
HeadSpin5 · 04/07/2020 12:24

@Orangeblossom78 I’m sitting inside a busy cafe as we speak, enjoying a lovely vanilla latte - so good to get out and do something ‘normal’ that I used to completely take for granted. Will be taking DD to the playground later too (before pub garden me tomorrow) . Get fucking in💪

Oh cool. That's super interesting.

My brother used to do sea rowing as a teenager. He was really fit and strong but the men he rowed with (mostly middle aged) were NAILS.

Oh I love boats and the sea. Smile In my family there are horse people and boat people. I'm definitely a boat person.

I really, REALLY want to go to Crete now. Is the labyrinth still there? (Was it a mythical labyrinth?)

Allflightscancelled · 04/07/2020 12:28

Off to try and find something constructive to do on a gloomy cool Saturday, following the triumphs of yesterday when I did some gardening and resealed the kitchen sink (a bit messily, to be fair).

This will probably be out and about, just to celebrate the fact that this is finally, actually a thing now. Hooray!!!!!

Have a good afternoon, all!

Allflightscancelled · 04/07/2020 12:30

Nihiloxia there was a programme on last night about Crete. The palace itself was labyrinthine, apparently, rather than having a labyrinth under it.

Although Livin will prob know more about it than this armchair traveller Wink

BogRollBOGOF · 04/07/2020 12:31

Mid run nutrition. Glucose, starch, salt, water, caffine. Yum!

Murderer!

TheGreatWave · 04/07/2020 12:36

Reading is Berkshire, kind of western side of London.

justasking111 · 04/07/2020 12:42

@RubberDinghyRapids Are we supposed to get tested if we have a temperature, I had a doozy the other week, mastitis, did not occur to me or gp that I would need a test.

IAintentDead · 04/07/2020 12:44

Thanks - for the purpose of the Roll Call - it would be considered South then?
HesterShaw1 · 04/07/2020 12:45

A 'gig' is like a very big rowing boat, with six (or it may be 8) people with great big oars, plus a cox.

Six! Eight rowers in a gig is actually illegal. Did you know that? Because a well trained crew of more than six was actually able to outrun and evade a coastguard cutter, and it's one of those laws which was never repealed. Gig rowing is very big down here.

Talking of theme parks we weren't but never mind, which Welshies among you used to do to Pensgynor? There was literally no car in South Wales who did not have the Pensgynor sticker on their car.

I have finally caught up with the thread. Only took me a few days.

PickAChew · 04/07/2020 12:46

Just been for a walk into town. Durham is nervously getting its buzz back. Much bigger queues for the barbers than the bars, as predicted.

Mrsfrumble · 04/07/2020 12:47

I think a lot of the more strident mask meme-ing and dementoring is filtering over from the US, where in many states there hasn’t been much of a lockdown, rather an approach of carrying on as normal but with a face mask on. So understandably a bit more of an issue, especially as some states are only seeing their first really big spike in cases now (like Texas and Arizona).

TheGreatWave · 04/07/2020 12:48

Yes it would be South.

Orangeblossom78 · 04/07/2020 12:53

that makes sense mrsfumble

dkl55 · 04/07/2020 12:57

@Mascotte it was certainly subdued though I was thrilled to get some goodies. Not many people out but the weather turned too. All stall holders wearing masks which is a BIT ridiculous given it's all outside and there's a table between us Hmm
