Why can’t we be more sensible like the Germans

We can’t live like this forever. Loading debt into the younger generations and trashing the environment at the same time. Why aren’t people getting more angry about this?

NoisyBrain · 04/07/2020 10:39

Ah, so THIS is where the Anti Dementors are! I never thought of looking in Chat, duh.

I'm enjoying the level of sanity here.

Also, because I cba to go back through previous threads, who are the malakas? (one of my favourite Greek words) Grin

Matt Hancock is one Malaka, for sure.

I think Dementors in general.

I just got so excited about learning a new word, I didn't interrogate it as I should have. Grin

Welcome (back?)

BogRollBOGOF · 04/07/2020 10:46

I might have just literally cried at the council worker cutting the lock off my local playground, telling him that that's made me so happyto see him doing that Blush Grin

There were children playing and mums taking photos before the second gate was released Grin

YAY!

They haven't done that here AFAIK even though pubs and restaurants opened yesterday. Hmm

PickAChew · 04/07/2020 10:50

Great news, @trappedsincesundaymorn

Local paper full of stories about barbers, including one giving free haircuts to elderly customers. We'll have to see how the dementoring progresses. They seem to prefer good feelz stories, which is something.

I threw it in a couple of threads ago in anger and we all love it now. It's a very versatile word. Also gave rise to one of the greatest memes of all time created by @BarkandCheese My family love it.

Oh yes, Bark's meme Grin

Love it.

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 04/07/2020 10:55

Congratulations MrTrapped! Excellent news. Though I feel for you with the desserts: I started lockdown with the intention of baking with DD, but quickly gave up when I realised that was likely to end in me having to be winched out of the house when they finally let us out.

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 04/07/2020 10:56

In other news, I have a haircut booked on Wednesday. Very excited about that, I look like the tail of a shaggy dog story at the moment. And our favourite local Chinese is reopening today for takeaway and delivery, even though not yet to eat in.

NoisyBrain · 04/07/2020 11:00

I figured it might be something like that Smile
I shall hopefully hear the word being spoken in its natural surroundings at the end of July, if the Greek government sanctions murdering sprees on direct flights from the UK. Unless of course Easyjet cancels our flight.

In the Greek travel FB group I'm a member of people are being deemed SO SELFISH!!! for bringing their plague-ridden families to infect the country which has done so well to limit the numbers. I do get the concern, and I'm not entirely stress-free about the whole airport/plane experience, but funnily enough the shouting is mostly coming from non-Greek ex-pats, who aren't dependent on tourism to, y'know, eat & stuff. I've been in email contact with the apartment owner where we're going and they are very keen for us to come.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 04/07/2020 11:00

@HairyFloppins I’ve just read you fell down the stairs too to bottom. 😬 for me that’s in the same category as pushing the red button and nothing to declare. The more I think about it the more likely I am to do it.

HeadSpin5 · 04/07/2020 11:00

That meme is brilliant 😂

NoisyBrain · 04/07/2020 11:01

LivinLaVidaLoki love it! And Wank Sock Grin

NoisyBrain · 04/07/2020 11:02

Oops, @ fail!

ISaySteadyOn · 04/07/2020 11:03

@trappedsincesundaymorn, great news! Surely all you need to do is just put on a Joe Wicks after pudding? Wink

@BogRollBOGOF, that's also good news. I haven't yet seen if our council has been that kind.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 04/07/2020 11:04

If it helps @NoisyBrain the rumblings in Greece are really very positive about the british being allowed to travel.
Haris Theoharis is very keen to include them post 15th. Though he is also pushing for an earlier review but its unlikely he will get that but at least the rumblings are optimistic.
Ironically most of the people who dont want brits there are expats....now let me think, where do they come from again?
Also they have cushy pensions and wont lose their homes and businesses and have their kids passing out at bakeries after not eating for days. So it's the same rumblings here, the nay sayers are the ones lest affected.

Where are you looking at going?

Mascotte · 04/07/2020 11:07

Good news! @trappedsincesundaymorn

Allflightscancelled · 04/07/2020 11:18

@worldgonecrazy are you in Lyme Regis? We have a flat there! I'm coming down around about 19th, first time since Feb. Can't wait!!!! Are we likely to get a shitty welcome ?

I did and it bloody hurt. I think I used one of my nine lives and I am now immortal.

HairyFloppins · 04/07/2020 11:20

Just read a part of Spain are locking down again. The Dementors are loving the news, and of course the only people wanting to travel are fat, lazy selfish Brits.

Allflightscancelled · 04/07/2020 11:23

And if you can move after your Town Mill breakfast worldgonecrazy I salute you

Wishfulthinking1977 · 04/07/2020 11:25

@allflightscancelled I live in lyme xx

Spudlet · 04/07/2020 11:25

Morning lovelies! We’re decorating today. We still haven’t got any paint on the walls yet - I always forget the boring prep stuff you have to do.

Spud dog is taking it all in his hairy stride and refusing to move off the sofa, including when the sofa was picked up and moved, and when it was covered in dust sheets. We made a little gap for his schnozz so no one would accidentally sit on him 😂

Stop the presses - my parents have invited my children over for a sleepover next week!Shock

@trappedsincesundaymorn I’m so pleased for you - congrats to the Mr Smile

Parks are open! Library is open!

Dd is on gate duty today at work ... 6 hours in a high vis vest directing traffic & listening to rich old men moaning. And it will probably rain. She’s taking Dh’s Spectator umbrella so she can pass for One of Them. Spare her a thought ;) (she’s honestly ecstatic to be back working).
