mrsfrumble I hate it when people tell the DC off for daft things when you are right there.

TuckMyWin · 03/07/2020 18:32
@Orangeblossom78, that sounds great about your schools. I wish our primary would do the same.

Where are you all finding info about playgrounds because my council website says nothing ?
They've announced it on social media round our way. One from our council to say they won't necessarily all be open on day one as they need checking over for safety (fair enough after several months), and one for the area next door saying that they've read the guidance and it's too hard. I've actually just re-read their statement and they haven't actually said they are keeping them closed. They've said their position is that the play parks 'continue to be a risk for the spread of coronavirus' and they are 'recommending that play equipment that has not been sanitised should not be used' and that they will be 'posting signs to this effect'. I'm wondering if this is actually a genius way of getting out of woolly government guidance and letting people make up their own minds?

Nope - but weirdly you can have a different opinion to others and express it without being called names.
TheGreatWave · 03/07/2020 18:50

Sorry for those that can't get on holiday, especially Livin as that is family as well.

A family member posted on FB that their holiday was cancelled as the accommodation wasn't opening (UK) I was all "that's a shame, will you book elsewhere." Everyone else was "better to be safe.'

However I am worried about the poor sad tree.

BarkandCheese · 03/07/2020 18:52

I was pleasantly surprised at my trip to Specsavers for DDs eye test today. The woman I spoke to on the phone had been full on dementor, trying to put me off from making an appointment, masks must be worn, you won’t be able to try frames on so pick ones you want online. The reality was very different, the optician asked DD to remove her mask, saying if she didn’t mind he didn’t. DD was allowed to try frames on, we just had to put them in a box after so they could be cleaned. Also it was a bloody good job we did go, DDs eyes have deteriorated quite a bit and she really needs new glasses, however getting her to wear them is another matter...

Orangeblossom78 · 03/07/2020 18:53

MIL (late 70s) wants to meet up in a cafe soon. Feeling oddly anxious about it. Not for me but for her. I guess it is up to her though. Argh. I can't be bothered with it if it means signing in etc.

countrygirl99 · 03/07/2020 18:54

Absolutely heartbreaking story on the local news about a young man in his 20s who died of a DVT. He had spent hours gaming during lockdown.

BarkandCheese · 03/07/2020 18:57

I actually do have a bit of sympathy for the tree. My mum volunteers at a NT place where the wider grounds are open to everyone. They’ve had two tree branches broken off trees which are 300-400 years old from children swinging on them.

Orangeblossom78 · 03/07/2020 18:58

Yeah I posted on that here about the young guy in the virus bit to show them of other deaths etc. very sad,

FrugiFan · 03/07/2020 19:03

In my county there has been 1 new case reported in the past 7 days.

Today there are suddenly over 2000 new cases! Increasing from as round 4000 to around 6000. It says "However the government saidthe methodology for reporting positive cases changed on Thursdaywhich may explain the leap."

How can they have got it so far wrong!?

It's a real upbeat optimistic video. Completely non dementory. Sturgeon and Dripford are going to swallow themselves whole in furyGrin

Love it!

rookiemere · 03/07/2020 19:06

Evening dementors. I've been out visiting a very lovely friend in their very lovely covered garden space. She is taking covid very seriously and following all the guidelines, although not from an at risk group. Lots of talk of the new normal and no cross contamination of milk jug handle. I was allowed to use the loo but had to wipe down all the surfaces and put the wipe in a bag which I then binned.

She was genuinely concerned about the toilet arrangements on our forthcoming holiday with SIL which I hadn't given any much thought to. Also toilets at Alton Towers. She hasn't been to a shop since all of this started and won't be going to restaurants or pubs for a long while.

It was interesting seeing it from someone else's perspective, and as it's someone I like and respect I didn't want to challenge or make them feel uncomfortable. She is not bothered by the lack of being able to go out and go on holiday etc. enjoys spending a lot of time in the garden and isn't working, whereas I would like to get my old life back thank you very much.

rookiemere · 03/07/2020 19:06

In other news I have a mild sore throat and slight cough. Am also sneezing so better be only a summer cold Confused

BarkandCheese · 03/07/2020 19:16

I think this is behind quite a few dementor types. Some of them just genuinely aren’t bothered about going out, and can’t quite grasp how for some of us being confined to our houses or local areas is close to hell.

Every so often someone on here starts a thread along the lines of “Aibu not ever wanting to go on holiday?” an I always think, well you’re not being unreasonable because it’s your own business, but I personally bloody love going on holiday. It’s not a mindset I share at all.

Willow2017 · 03/07/2020 19:18

Had my training day. Soooo much to remember! Its going to be tough at first but will just have to make the best of it I suppose. The amount of cleaning they expect us to do every half hour is mind boggling. And the whole customers cant do this and that is going to be weird for them never mind us! I meant to ask why we can pass a takeaway cup to a customer without risking them dropping dead but cant touch thier own cup even with washed hands/ anti-bac on? Tbf it's not my managers rules its company and bloody government rules.
Wondering how much resistance there will be to giving us names and contact numbers before they can order sit down food?

Was getting a bit fed up hearing "for thier own safety" over and over today like a mantra. Today we could do take out food and drinks without visors, constant monitoring and cleaning stuff the blooming staff use frequently without infecting ourselves or customers but tomorrow we can't.🤔 it's all very OTT. But in the end its £££ coming in and being seen to be doing everything for the customers safety. Hey ho.

Which proves that viruses will spread despite precautions but that Covid isn't the only virus around and is probably not the most virulent when it is - It's just new so no one had any resistance initially now.

I suspect most of us have been exposed to a small viral load to which our immune systems quickly summed up and rallied its best defence.
So most of us developed a level of (not total) immunity which means that those of us that do get it will get it more mildly than we would have done 3 or 4 months ago. Only a theory but I'm sticking to it.

@incognitomum
Yes seen the shop
I think my dd got earrings from there
My friend nic, with the shop I keep banging on about, generously told us all about seaham glass . I’d only lived up here 60 odd years And never knew anything about it.
Anyway we were allowed to pick a piece from the ‘ common ‘ green and white box..but not from her carefully hoarded ‘specials’ box which housed all the reds, oranges, yellows and deep blues. God, I love that woman to bits. Her and her partners are a bit AD but because of their shop, they have to be seen to be doing the right thing.
It’s a tiny little unit..so basically one person in at a time but because it’s an indoor market, you can still see a lot of what’s for sale why you chat.
She’s proper got by and had made herself a goth type pinafore..think skulls and Red roses..and a matching mask..and very fetching it looked too

If I can find the photo of the necklace in made for dd, amongst my 11,000 collection I’ll post it.
It was a piece of green sea glass shaped like a heart with amazonite ( I think) beads all done macrame style with Chinese knitting thread.
I wanted it for myself, but thought dd deserved it for helping us to collect..along with kids.

MinesaPinot · 03/07/2020 19:30

@LivinLaVidaLoki that is so crap, especially as you're going to see family. Bloody coronavirusAngry

We'd already booked a cruise for next year as it's our Silver Wedding so we can't even rebook. Just have to try and get our money out of TUI.
