On the question of toilets....

See, I've been weird about this for years now. I carry around a tiny little spray bottle which I fill with anti bacterial surface spray. I clean the seats and flush handles/buttons with the spray and toilet paper before I sit and do my business.
I've also been keeping antibacterial hand gel manufacturers in business until everyone else caught up!

This is all a result of 25 years of having to use construction site loos.

It really isn't that difficult once you get into the rhythm. Covid toileting holds no fears for me

rookiemere · 03/07/2020 19:34

IA we think we had covid back in March so I'll be truly fecked off if this is a repeat, particularly when we have loads planned including a zoo visit and our trip to England.Plus I would hate to dob in any friends on track and trace.
Feck , arse am just hoping it goes away.

@Jrobhatch29

Hello sane people Smile If positive news is shared here do you respond with instant second wave/yeah but the zoe app said... /you might not die but LONG TERM EFFECTS!!!!! /immunity lasts 4 seconds?!
Only if it's really obvious that we're being sarcastic Wink

Obviously there's no room for being jovial during a pandemic and such uncertain times and therefore we sadly MURDER a thousand people per thread with fatal flippancy Grin

Dowser · 03/07/2020 19:47

@incognitomum
Found it
I’m shocked that it’s been 5 years. and now we have no classes as they finally phased her out

@FrugiFan

In my county there has been 1 new case reported in the past 7 days.

Today there are suddenly over 2000 new cases! Increasing from as round 4000 to around 6000. It says "However the government saidthe methodology for reporting positive cases changed on Thursdaywhich may explain the leap."

How can they have got it so far wrong!?

The local figures (before yesterday) only included pillar 1 tests (these are tests from NHS labs and largely include patients and hospital staff). Yesterday they finally worked out how to break down all the pillar 2 tests (commercial testing labs, covers community testing) into local areas hence the sudden increase in local figures. In reality no more people have tested positive, we can just put areas to more positive tests.

rookiemere, my friend had a test recently and got the result back (negative) within 24 hours. So if you want to know for certain it could be worth getting on. It's almost certainly just a cold.

DominaShantotto · 03/07/2020 19:53

@BarkandCheese

I actually do have a bit of sympathy for the tree. My mum volunteers at a NT place where the wider grounds are open to everyone. They’ve had two tree branches broken off trees which are 300-400 years old from children swinging on them.
I hate swings on trees. Family member was on one his kids had come across and the branch snapped, he fell and let's put it this way - he had a fracture near his ankle so bad he nearly lost the foot, and he's been disabled ever since with the extent of the injury and had to have multiple surgeries and the joint's still fucked.
Teateaandmoretea · 03/07/2020 19:53

I had a test and the result took 10 hours pretty impressive really Smile

psychomath · 03/07/2020 19:55

@Willitneverend

Did anyone see the Grace Dent article in the Guardian? It was very good but the comment section was predictably full of affronted dementors.
I didn't see the Grace Dent article but I thought this one was very good, although I'm not a theatre person.
Bollss · 03/07/2020 19:59

@DominaShantotto my other half broke his leg falling off a tree swing. Bone through the skin and everything. He was a teenager and they thought he might not walk again. Anyway luckily he was in a wheelchair for 6 months and had lots of physio and made s full recovery. I didn't know him then but it's made me a bit wary!

BakewellTarts · 03/07/2020 19:59

These threads have been my lifesaver...sane rational people who can agree or disagree without name calling. And giggles when I need them.

PickAChew · 03/07/2020 20:00

@frugifan

It's weird, isn't it? And the disparity between active cases and recovered makes it look like there are suddenly 10 times as many people infected in my county. There's clearly still data missing.

Good idea teatea and littlebelina about getting a test.

I'm about 99% convinced it's just a normal cold - when I got what I think was coronavirus I was totally wiped out - whereas this just feels like normal cold symptoms, but don't want to be going about coughing as it looks bad.
I'll see how I feel tomorrow Confused. Really want to go to the zoo.

mightbealittlebitmad · 03/07/2020 20:05

Does anyone feel like the hysteria is getting worse despite infections and deaths falling? It's really odd.

BakewellTarts · 03/07/2020 20:10

I think it's fear of going back to normal? Some folks like lockdown clear rules and no ambiguity. Real life is hard in comparison. You have to adult.

Bollss · 03/07/2020 20:11

@mightbealittlebitmad

I do. But I think that, it gets really bad before an "event" happens. So last time it was really bad was when some children went back to school in June..... And then nothing bad happened and it all died down again.

So now they're at it again with pubs.. and when nothing bad happens they'll calm down. Same with schools in sept. I think once they go back and the world doesn't just spontaneously burst into flames they'll probably stop again for a bit until something else is allowed again.

FrugiFan · 03/07/2020 20:12

@mightbealittlebitmad I dont know... I think it was worse at the beginning when people were getting screeched at for going for a second walk or for buying two cucumbers.

I think people are scared now because they are losing control now that things are loosening up. It's not as clear cut (in their opinion) as staying home is good; going out is bad. And they dont know how to cope.

PickAChew · 03/07/2020 20:14

I tiptoed into twitter and it was less dementor than usual. I think my unfollowing spree is working. Random plants and animals, bridges and this 😂

You have to make choices and there might be FOMO. I mean i am getting it too with this request from MIL to meet in a cafe. Selfishly I don't fancy handing over name etc in case of having to stay home and also not sure if fancy it, but it is getting harder to make excuses if they feel they are 'allowed' to meet up now

Orangeblossom78 · 03/07/2020 20:15

I have a lovely instagram feed which is much nicer than FB ever was- a lady who rescues animals, a yoga lady and the city farm..

BakewellTarts · 03/07/2020 20:15

Had a great email from school today. Really positive message from the head " Please expect all students to be in school in September full time." And DD2s transition team are working really hard to give her support and positive about moving up to big school. I always thought it was a great school but they are showing how much they care. I think they are a bunch of Miss Honeys and am so pleased my DDs get to be taught by them.

Orangeblossom78 · 03/07/2020 20:16

It was bad when the deaths were high remember the bodies ones and had they been hidden on old peoples homes etc I think that was the worst for it

IAintentDead · 03/07/2020 20:21

Yes - some are still screeching but there are far fewer screechy posts and most of them have some people valiantly trying to add some balance - which only succeeds in making the screechers screechier.

Although I rarely venture onto the Covid board - just pick up the ones that go in trending.

BarkandCheese · 03/07/2020 20:24

For me the worst point was when people were being bullied for breaking the rules, or sometimes the made up by the poster rules, when there were absolutely zero consequences for them doing it. People who lived in the arse end of nowhere who could walk for miles without seeing a soul being lambasted for exercising for more than an hour, buying Easter eggs while doing the main shop, driving short distances to go for a walk, that kind of thing. There was nothing behind it other than a desire to wield virtual power and make others feel bad.

Drivingdownthe101 · 03/07/2020 20:25

I’ve just booked the zoo for the day after the DD’s finish school for the summer. I could cry at the thought of how excited they’re going to be.
