Major Incident in Glasgow

INeedAHol · 26/06/2020 14:09

I can hear nothing but sirens from my flat.

Have read that it appears to be a terrorist attack, but not confirmed. At least 3 dead. Glasgow city centre. Just awful Sad

No, they meant Pitt Street. Cowcaddens isn’t a HQ.

My point was, they had obviously tried to comment not realising it was no longer there.

RJnomore1 · 26/06/2020 22:45

Isn’t London Road an HQ any more?

Nicknacky · 26/06/2020 22:48

There is divisional HQ’s, however police Scotland HQ is now at the Tulliallan after Pitt Street was demolished.

Kilmarnock for example, is the divisional HQ for Ayrshire but isn’t where the top brass are based.

Nicknacky · 26/06/2020 22:48

Like, top top brass!

macaroniandpizza · 26/06/2020 23:10

Im genuinely not meaning to be goady here but why all the sensationalist headlines earlier to now be read as nobody but attacker has died? Sky news had 3 fatalities blazing across the screen this afternoon. To me when it says fatalities doesnt that mean deaths?

Ah that makes sense. Would a divisional commander be based in a divisional HQ then?

AnneOfCreamCables · 26/06/2020 23:43

I was wondering if they meant the HQ at Clyde Gateway. But yy you're probably right and they didn't realise Pitt St had gone.
I'm quite shocked they announced fatalities in error. Channels are usually much more cautious.

Because these days the media turn up in their droves when the incident is still ongoing and speak to too many people who think they know what's happened rather than waiting for official news Result is inaccuracies

Nicknacky · 27/06/2020 00:07

RJnomore1 That’s right, Div Coms are at local Divisional HQ.

I’m really surprised how incorrect the reporting was.

Redglitter · 27/06/2020 00:20

Hope your shift today was better than mine @Nicknacky

Horrible horrible situation

ssd · 27/06/2020 00:20

I heard the guy who was killed was due to be deported and this happened as the guy thought doing something like this would get him in prison, but he's dead now. Tragic if it's true, to be so desperate to do something like this to avoid deportation.

Hopefully it's wrong.

Bilzo · 27/06/2020 00:24

@macaroniandpizza because journalism is dead and no one bothers to fact check any more.

The most reliable source of news is generally BBC as it’s the only one that insists on two verified sources before they publish.

So I would always go there for my info in situations like these. Not they they always get it right either.

Nicknacky · 27/06/2020 00:27

Redglitter can you pm me? I’m on my phone and it’s not letting me message you x

Nicknacky · 27/06/2020 00:28

Stv News did also say in one of their updates that he police stabbed him to death 🤦🏻‍♀️

ssd · 27/06/2020 00:35

I guess we won't know the true facts until its investigated properly.

Redglitter · 27/06/2020 00:37

@Nicknacky will do

ssd · 27/06/2020 17:05

Glad to see constable Whyte is not critical now. Hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.

dementedpixie · 27/06/2020 17:13

I have now read that there had been warnings about his mental health prior to the knife attack. They may have access to meals and a room but nothing like the houses they were moved from at very short notice. They had absolutely no money as it was decided that as they were getting fed they wouldn't get their usual £35 per week. Couldn't even buy a drink or snack.

ssd · 27/06/2020 17:37

Yes, awful.

Joysutty · 27/06/2020 17:57

I heard on the news today that 2 of this guy's friends said he was threatening to kill someone at the hotel 2 days before this had happened. Why no action then? With mental health we have all suffered. People in the UK with children living in a one bedroom flat?. Don't you think we have all suffered with depression and mental health during lockdown. My husband had to have a pacemaker fitted 8 weeks ago,
plus my mother in law yesterday was admitted to a hospice for "end of life". My son's lost his job. Do I then go out and aim to kill an innocent person. We have a friend who for no fault of his own after his divorce has ended up homeless during livkdiwn, he would have loved a room in a hotel, and is sleeping in his van each night. Sorry, these people are fed and housed for free. Bad situation all round, as my daughter's friend moved up to Scotland who is also police woma, but in another area.

ssd · 27/06/2020 18:08

Think there's a bit more to it than being fed up Joy.

Ellmau · 27/06/2020 19:04

I reckon somebody confused it with the Reading incident.

dementedpixie · 27/06/2020 19:06

Yesterday it definitely said 3 dead. I was confused when later on it said only the suspect was dead and the 6 others were alive but in hospital

Nicknacky · 27/06/2020 19:37

I wasn’t confused with last week at all, I was watching yesterday live and numerous reputable outlets were confirming three dead. I’m genuinely received those reports (which I repeated on here!) were wrong.

It’s just bizarre though, I’ve never seen so many “confirmed” reports that were wrong.

ssd · 27/06/2020 19:48

To add to the errors, on the BBC news tonight about 5pm with Sally Mcnair, in her report she called the police man injured constable Boyle, instead of Whyte.
