Major Incident in Glasgow

271 replies

INeedAHol · 26/06/2020 14:09

I can hear nothing but sirens from my flat.

Have read that it appears to be a terrorist attack, but not confirmed. At least 3 dead. Glasgow city centre. Just awful Sad

OP posts:
Nixen · 26/06/2020 17:31

The same ‘well placed’ source who confirmed 3 deaths now saying only the attacker died. Pisses me off how everyone claims to have insider info and it’s a lot of shite. Just a reminder, anyone can say they are anyone or anything on the internet

MsSafina · 26/06/2020 17:35

@Nicknacky.
You have my utmost respect especially in light of rhetoric at the moment trying to make out that UK police are dreadful brutal racists like the Americans.

RJnomore1 · 26/06/2020 17:36

Police Scotland have confirmed its not being treated as a terror incident

Etinox · 26/06/2020 17:37

Not at all, look after yourself, you seem very stressed.
Do you know model?

Nixen · 26/06/2020 17:39

@Nicknacky

Confirmed the suspect and 3 people have died.
Confirmed by whom please?
Etinox · 26/06/2020 17:39

@Etinox

Not at all, look after yourself, you seem very stressed. Do you know model?
I fucked up the link, meant to show you this @TheMurk davidrynick.com/circle-of-influence-and-circle-of-concern/
THEDEACON · 26/06/2020 17:44

POLICE SCOTLAND say this was NOT A TERROR INCIDENT

TheMurk · 26/06/2020 17:46

@etinox did you put that patronising link in front of the people discussing BLM? I bet you didn’t.

ssd · 26/06/2020 17:49

Saying someone seems stressed is patronising in the extreme. TheMurk may be saying something no one wants to hear but he/she has as much right to say it as anyone else.
It's a double edged sword. If people choose to stay in Glasgow in a hostel instead of going home to their home country, how bad does home have to be? And if people aren't granted asylum, why not?
Ive heard mears group don't look after these people well. It'll be a money making excerise for someone miles away from what's happened. And of course the police have to deal with a situation they shouldn't have to deal with.

I don't know the answer.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 26/06/2020 17:51

@Nicknacky I thought of you immediately when I heard this. You, and your fellow MN officers, stay safe. Thank you for all that you do .

Awful thing to happen. Awful.

Etinox · 26/06/2020 17:53

@TheMurk funnily enough the circle of influence model is very useful for managing distress. It's not saying shrug and do nothing but how to channel your energies. Sorry you found it patronising.

ssd · 26/06/2020 17:55

Why didn't you post it then for posters who have been crying over this?

Heismyopendoor · 26/06/2020 17:56

@Tippexy

Why was my message deleted?

I only asked why someone would be in floods of tears about the fact an incident has happened in an area adjacent to where their husband worked yesterday?

Confused

I didn’t see your message that was deleted but imagine you were referencing me?

I was upset because my DH should have been there working on that street this afternoon. He was there this morning and then got called to another location so left. I know he normally works in the same place for a few days.

Also, even if my DH wasn’t in the area, surely being upset about an incident like that happening on the streets locally to me is upsetting in itself?

macaroniandpizza · 26/06/2020 17:59

Thoughts are with all affected Flowers. Ive seen some pretty awful racist comments on fb and newspaper fb pages which there is no need at all for

Etinox · 26/06/2020 18:01

@ssd, I'm not sure how active I was on BLM threads. You're right it's a bit of a blunt tool, but I did have a long talk with a friend who was exhausted and upset after George Floyd's death, thinking about focussing energies and avoiding vicarious trauma, which is why it was on my mind.
I feel bad for disrailing this thread though- happy to start another thread.

Cam77 · 26/06/2020 18:03

So apparently not "terror" related at all (when did that strange word become an accepted replacement for terrorism?).

Annoying how the media falls over themselves to label every tragic killing by mentally unwell nutter as terrorism. It's a useful tactic of course for the politicians to keep in their arsenal in keeping the public on side.

As a westerner, you're more likely to be killed by a piece of furniture than a terrorist.

RJnomore1 · 26/06/2020 18:05

No mention in the police statement just there if anyone being dead except the man they had to shoot

ssd · 26/06/2020 18:06

Etinox , I didn't mean other threads but I think we have crossed wires anyway. Am sure we're all thinking the same here, hoping the police officer recovers and the victims families and friends get the support they need.

ShootsFruitAndLeaves · 26/06/2020 18:07

Apparently the residents were upset that the Radisson was not a 5* property

Also the wifi was not good enough.

This is not a joke.

www.radissonhotels.com/en-us/hotels/park-inn-glasgow-city-centre

Imagine only having a 4* rating on TripAdvisor!? Reviews before it was turned over:

"This hotel was very centrally located close to train and bus hubs and within walking distance of city center activities. Breakfast was also very good, and was quite a good value if you pay in advance. Othwerwise, nothing was outstanding but this was a perfectly reasonable hotel for our short stay in Glasgow."

"A lovely stay at the Park Inn, Glasgow. We got it as an online deal - so £69 bed and breakfast. Central location - so great if in Glasgow for the nightlife or a days shopping. Super quick check in. Superior room on the second floor which overlooked the Main Street - so could get quite noisy at night. Large room, very clean and large bathroom. Buffet breakfast with a wide range of food. Would definitely stay again"

£69 per night B+B? I wouldn't house my dog in such a place! Nothing less than 5* £300/night luxury should be tolerated!

ssd · 26/06/2020 18:09

And again, all credit to the Glasgow police who don't hesitate when they are needed.

RJnomore1 · 26/06/2020 18:10

Oh don’t be so disingenuous

A five star trip advisor rating is not a five star hotel. And where did you hear that anyway?

Plus a one night stay doesn’t mean a place is good for 14 weeks.

Away with your stirring somewhere else.

TheMurk · 26/06/2020 18:10

@Cam77 was just about to make a similar comment. In my day they were plain old massacres (Hungerford, Dunblane, Cumbria) but I guess the rhetoric changes to fit the times.

They know fine well it’s not terrorism by any stretch of the true meaning of the word so they bend to call it a terror attack - which I suppose is an accurate description - but it’s carefully chosen so that the LCD of the red top readers confuse it with the word terrorism.

Just another tool to suppress and divide the public.

CBaskin826 · 26/06/2020 18:12

We're around 15 mins by car from Glasgow, just saw this news now, how very sad Sad

ScottishStottie · 26/06/2020 18:13

Park inn is a perfectly fine hotel. Nothing fancy but clean and modern and totally functional.

Not sure why people are saying the accomodation is inadequate?

ssd · 26/06/2020 18:14

@ShootsFruitAndLeaves, don't get your point?
