Here's a new thread for discussing aircon, aubergines, and Goth music.

I think realising that there is going to be no summer holiday childcare has tipped me over the edge a bit today.

Hard same.

It's not even just childcare. Just stuff for them to DO that is not sitting in the house getting less and less fit and losing all their social skills.

I've just had to talk myself out of replying on a post about NT properties increasing the amount of people who can come in. The chances of any of those people having asymptomatic covid are about 0.5% and they're not going to be breathing all over anyone else or leaving handprints of doom on surfaces. But it's not safe apparently. I hope these properties survive.

Shodan · 24/06/2020 18:13

@TrustTheGeneGenie I'm too embarrassed to go back to Screwfix right now so I'm going to leave it a week or so. Hopefully they'll have forgotten me by then Grin

I could've asked DP to do it (he loves being asked tbh) but I'm too impatient and anyway it's MY door Grin]

Go on, please cheer us up by starting that aibu thread about not using a mask on account of the pretty lipstick and despite the shielding.
We could all pile in pretending to be dementors and see who could get in the most capital letters about I DESPAIR and DEATH. And then when real dementors pile in, you can swan back on and just say 'only kidding'!

mightbealittlebitmad · 24/06/2020 18:17

Is it still frowned upon to go to the shops more than once a week and for entirely non essential crap? I tried my best to stick to essential once a week shopping at the beginning but looking back now it just seems so silly as does only being allowed to exercise once a day. I bought a hat purposely to disguise myself for when I went out for my second form of exercise.

Things have definitely become more normal for me over the last few weeks but things still have a way to go before I can declare it entirely normal.

NothingIsWrong · 24/06/2020 18:22

@mightbealittlebitmad I went to Primark on Sunday for non essential clothes, and made a stop at Hotel Chocolat for some extremely essential chocolate. Asked the guy in the shop if he'd been busy, and apparently the day before, they had only been 8% below the expected June Saturday taking. Clearly many many people are shopping, so I would crack on :-)

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 24/06/2020 18:27

Anyone who doesn’t lose their shit when a plate of food goes over the floor (and the dog does a half-arsed job) is either a stepford wife or has been hitting the Valium harder than the gin.

mightbealittlebitmad · 24/06/2020 18:30

I was thinking more like supermarkets because of the whole outcry at the beginning that you must not go more than once a week or people will die. I wondered if now non essential shops were open if it was "allowed" to go into a supermarket for an ice-cream. It seems frowned upon over the internet to take kids too still but I've taken mine and nobody has batted an eyelid.

I've just had a long walk to the supermarket just for tanning oil, managed to come out with a whole bag full. I've done nothing but buy stuff this past week but I'm just doing my bit to keep the economy going and all that, nothing to do with the fact there is nothing else to do obviously. Single handedly and entirely selflessly thinking of Gymshark, Kipling, Asda and Morrisons, should be given a medal!

Feeling a bit flat today - my best friend who lives on the other side of the country is coming up to visit unexpectedly, which is lovely as I didn't think we'd get to see each other for ages. He lives on his own and has made a bubble with his parents who live near(ish) to me so all above board. I mentioned it to a mutual friend because I was excited and she turned it into a whole thing about how it's stupid to let people travel across the country and the rules make no sense, the government don't know what they're doing etc. I'm trying not to be a dick about it because she's lost two relatives to COVID and so I understand why she feels so strongly about it, but I just want to share some good news without feeling like I'm walking on eggshells all the time Sad And I know it's mean but I feel like in normal times the rest of us have to tiptoe around her mental health issues all the bloody time, so I wish she'd be a bit more empathetic about the things other people are struggling with right now.

Probably feeling a bit over-sensitive anyway because I've been having irrational fears about my work colleagues finding me irritating, mostly due to the difficulty of communicating when I can't actually speak to them. So I feel a bit attacked on all sides, even though no-one is actually attacking me and I know it's just my own paranoia Confused

My toddler lost his earlier when he dropped his ice cream on the floor. Then I did when after I had picked it up and put it in a bowl he threw it on the floor again.

Haha I really didn't need to bother in the end because my neighbours have better things to do than keep tabs on how many times people leave the house. Still use the hat though 👍
psychomath · 24/06/2020 18:38

mightbe I've been going to the supermarket more than once a week when I don't strictly need to and the people who work there don't seem to mind (I look quite distinctive so I'm fairly sure they recognise me). Don't think I'd go daily or for fewer than about five items but that's mostly because it doesn't seem worth the trouble of queueing.

Don't forget at least a few of us need to be 'crying and shaking' too Wink

@AnxiousElephant77

We bought a Nespresso during lockdown and it's fab.
I'm teetering on the brink of buying one but need to know how easy it is to use? I want to be able to operate it whilst still technically asleep, is that possible?
Dowser · 24/06/2020 18:51

Little bit mad
Come and join the gang..we will shuffle up for you
No stupid 2m, 1m rules here..just intimate space ones of about 18 inches

Go to the shops whenever you feel like it..as most have been doing here since time begun and our mam’s cut our apron strings
We’ve been fed so much bull shit, no wonder we no longer know our arse from our elbows

It’s been a hotun, even in the chilly north east, had to come in to cool off at one point and I like it hot.
I really feel for you lovely mam’s, trying to raise kids and wfh
You’ve got the shitty end of the stick..it’s not right and it’s not fair
You didn’t sign up for this and neither did they

So pour yourselves a big one and let your hair down

This is an order 👍

Honestly the world has gone mad...and if you lose your shit with your kids now and then
Well kids grow up despite their parents and they will look back and think, what a little twat I was, I’d have given myself a clip Around the old lugs.

Dowser · 24/06/2020 18:55

We’ve had full on sun
Makes a change from mist, seafret and wind

AnxiousElephant77 · 24/06/2020 18:56

@peaceanddove Insanely easy, we also got the Aeroccino (I don't think that's right) milk frother which is fantastic. Although you can't use any other capsules than Nespresso in them.

Are they those pod ones? If so they're really easy - you could probably operate it whilst still technically comatose.

flack · 24/06/2020 18:58

dunno but gosh, I crossed that threshold 6 weeks ago. Or maybe more.
We do go for junk food in evenings. Very quiet time.

Every morning folk are Qing up at like 10am for at least 10 minutes. Just why? When you can walk in immediately at 6-9pm every evening.

RobinHobb · 24/06/2020 19:00

@NothingIsWrong
Ha I lost my shit at the kids today and they didn't even do anything wrong. Just said mummy 1000,0000,0000 times and it was too fucking hot and I was hungry and worried about something else. Not even wfh.
Gah. I just have a short fuse because it is too hot. Want to eat ice cream but have lost 12lb and don't want it to come back.

Dowser · 24/06/2020 19:08

The lovely mr Dowser is in the dog house today
I thought I would repaint the garden bench, eventually found a brush only for him to tell me that he can’t find the paint
I know I didn’t use it all..it was a big tub and we only have to redo the bench and gate every two years..so not happy

He thinks it might have gone to the skip when we last tidied the garage 😡

However he is cooking tea so, he will be forgiven
No one perfect..least of all me
And it was probably my grandsons that put in in the car for the skip anyway

LethargicLumpOfLockdownLard · 24/06/2020 19:08

@Littlebelina

The queuing thing does annoy me. With both kids back in education/childcare my fridays are almost normal apart from the absence of groups for dd and having to do some work whilst she naps still as still missing work hours due to running back and forth for school pick due to no wrap around. I was thinking this friday to take her to localish shops to pick up some bits and thought oooh I can go to lidl for bread and random middle of lidl crap. Except it won't be just popping to lidl will it? It'll be a 20 min queue with trying to social distance in a tiny aisle and I'm not sure I can be arsed.
I haven't queued for Lidl (or Aldi) at all so far. Also they are nowhere near as dementory as Tesco (no arrows!) and people seem a lot more relaxed in there. May just be that I go at quiet times, but I've been going different days and times and no queues.
Littlebelina · 24/06/2020 19:10

Our holiday club is still planning on opening (Boris said yesterday that childcare/wrap around could open the summer but as always guidance is still to come) so there might still be hope for some summer clubs/activities

Lickyicelollies · 24/06/2020 19:12

@Dowser I lived in Newcastle for 15 years and I can hear your fantastic post in the accent. I miss it in the lovely North East and I've still got lots of friends there
