What chocolate still actually tastes nice?

I stopped buying chocolate at some point in the last 10 years because most of them - especially Cadbury, taste completely different and are waxy and horrible.

there are some very expensive things that still taste like proper chocolate, such as the fortnum and mason ones (sadly out of my price range to buy more than one bar a year!) but out of the normal ones you'd find in a supermarket- which ones are still nice and do you still buy?

Give lindt a try (when it's on offer obv!)

tbtf · 22/06/2020 20:07

Tony's!

Mangofandangoo · 22/06/2020 20:08

Dark chocolate ( with flavouring if you like) are very nice and inexpensive - if you like nuts the Lindt hazelnut one is delicious

Also quite a bit better for you than milk chocolate

I'm partial to Lindt and Milka.

RoobyMyrtle · 22/06/2020 20:09

I second Tony's, especially the salted caramel one

yetanothernamechange22 · 22/06/2020 20:09

Yes to Lindt. I also recently tried Tony's Chocolonely which is good, and Lidl have a new brand called Way to Go which is nice too. They're all a bit more pricey than Cadbury but it's worth it. Even Lidl's own brand chocolate is quite nice actually.

AtrociousCircumstance · 22/06/2020 20:09

Green and blacks is nice.

forrandomposts · 22/06/2020 20:10

Galaxy still tastes nice to me but Cadbury's is Envy

Wizadorawobble · 22/06/2020 20:10

I find the Lidl 79p lovely, no palm oil so it melts in the mouth as it should.

pongopig · 22/06/2020 20:11

Tony’s is amazing, agree that the salted caramel one is the best.

DKanin · 22/06/2020 20:11

I love the Lindt hazelnut one @Mangofandangoo

I just wish there was something that still had the taste of the original dairy milk!

Green and Black's

CoffeeBeansGalore · 22/06/2020 20:16

Thornton's is nice, but prefer the chocolates rather than milk choc bars, and available to order online. I also like Galaxy. Mackies do some nice ones, available in supermarkets.

whensmynexthol1day · 22/06/2020 20:17

Aldi chocolate is good. Their fruit and nut tastes like Cadbury's used to.
Plus all their dark stuff is nice too

MrsHaroldRobbins · 22/06/2020 20:25

If you've got a Waitrose near you, their own brand range of chocolate bars in grey packaging is amazing. I used to love Cadbury's and have been living in disappointment since it started to taste rubbish until I discovered the Waitrose range.

SlightyJaded · 22/06/2020 20:33

Milka
Waitrose own
Lindt
Some of 5he Ritter Sports
And Toblerone is still amazing.

FuckThisWind · 22/06/2020 20:35

Lindt but only certain types / varieties. I love Lindor.

Milka from the airport is shit.

Dairy milk is now crap. As is Galaxy.

I have just thrown out a bar of Tony's choco lonely.. yeah whatever. It was salted caramel and almond. Nearly made me sick. Disgusting! Emperors new clothes to me.

Godiva is utterly amazing.

Green and Blacks is very good.

nitgel · 22/06/2020 20:36

Nothing. In the 70s and 80s chocolate was gorgeous. Those days have gone

SinglePringle · 22/06/2020 20:36

Tony’s. Expensive but worth it.

timetest · 22/06/2020 20:38

Green and blacks, Milka and Lindt. Cadbury’s has gone right down the pan.

SquirrelFan · 22/06/2020 20:38

Tony's in this house - new obsession, the pretzel kind.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 22/06/2020 20:38

Homemade truffles are amazing and relatively easy - good quality dark chocolate, cream, sugar, butter, maybe a few sea salt crystals. I made these the other week.

Rayna37 · 22/06/2020 20:38

I'd say Cadbury's and Nestle brands have all been reformulated and have an aftertaste now but the Mars brands are still ok or at least less noticeably worse than they were.

Personally I'm more into the 85% Aldi or even better 90% Lindt though.

vinoandbrie · 22/06/2020 20:39

Godiva.

Lindt.

Cheerfulcharlie · 22/06/2020 20:39

I test a lot of chocolate and Willies Cacao chocolate is the best tasting in my opinion.
