What chocolate still actually tastes nice?

I stopped buying chocolate at some point in the last 10 years because most of them - especially Cadbury, taste completely different and are waxy and horrible.

there are some very expensive things that still taste like proper chocolate, such as the fortnum and mason ones (sadly out of my price range to buy more than one bar a year!) but out of the normal ones you'd find in a supermarket- which ones are still nice and do you still buy?

Aldi Choceur is amazing.

GracieLane · 22/06/2020 21:07

@serenada

They sell it in two corner shops near me. You know the budget news and booze types. I think it's imported though

Fruitbowlflowers · 22/06/2020 21:07

Tried the Cadbury grandsons one, it was nice but didn’t find it amazing.
I like Aldi’s hazelnut own brand. Never tried Tony’s so may have to have a trip to our local stockist (thankfully less than a mile away!)

Another vote for Tony's. My favourite is the almond, honey, nougat. It's similar to toblerone

Eminybob · 22/06/2020 21:09

I like Aldi’s own brand whole nut, in the big bars. Very similar to old school Cadbury whole nut.

Lindt lindor are another favourite of mine.

Lily O’Brien, especially the desert collection. (I may have eaten an entire box the night I gave birth to ds2, having had gestational diabetes so not allowed to eat chocolate for my entire pregnancy Sad)

I wasn’t overly impressed with hotel chocolat for the money.

Tony’s is ok, but too expensive for a chocolate bar.

Itstheprinciple · 22/06/2020 21:09

@serenada

where are you all getting milka from in the UK?
Home Bargains
Msfoxy17 · 22/06/2020 21:10

Another vote for Lindt - milk or dark (not keen on nuts and fruit in chocolate bit that's just personal preference).
Also think M&S chocolate is really good.
Wish we had an Aldi near here given all the recommendations for their chocolate.
Used to like Green and Blacks but find it kind of sickly now.. not sure what changed.

LokisLover · 22/06/2020 21:11

Tony’s, not only is it delicious it’s a slave free chocolate.

poppym12 · 22/06/2020 21:12

Godiva, milka or whatever the chocolate covering is on Daim bars

Glenthebattleostrich · 22/06/2020 21:13

I'm currently munching on a bar of Godiva roasted almond and honey chocolate.

It is divine

Eminybob · 22/06/2020 21:14

I have just realised that I have been calling it Tony’s chocoloney, but it’s actually chocolonely. I prefer my way.

okiedokieme · 22/06/2020 21:15

Aldi's chocolate is ok, better than the branded stuff

AriettyHomily · 22/06/2020 21:15

@serenada

Tesco
CarterBeatsTheDevil · 22/06/2020 21:18

I've cut out sugar for everything except my and my DH's birthday, Easter and Xmas. But I vaguely remember that Lidl's Fin Carre 70% is excellent, at least for cooking, and Tesco mid range whole nut is good too. My personal favourite was always Bournville, or Hotel Chocolat's Supermilk if I was feeling posh.

BirdyCheepCheep · 22/06/2020 21:18

Montezumas is good

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 22/06/2020 21:19

Tony's is lovely.

Usernamesake · 22/06/2020 21:21

Asda extra special dark chocolate range

Aldi Moser Roth

Gone right off Green and Blacks, Lindt, and Cadburys, obvs.

Still like a chocolate orange and mint matchmakers with a Ferrero Rocher thrown in for good measure Grin

Lozza70 · 22/06/2020 21:21

Depends what you are after. Love Tony’s and their ethos, more premium supermarket offering Lindt and Green & Blacks are good. I really like Cadbury’s dark milk as well. Seed and Bean is good, think you can get it in Sainsburys. I try a lot of chocolate as you can tell.

MillicentMartha · 22/06/2020 21:23

But I just want some Cadbury Dairy Milk from the 20th century. None of these others taste right.

serenada · 22/06/2020 21:26

Thanks @AriettyHomily

Looks like I'm due a trip to the shops then...

wowfudge · 22/06/2020 21:45

Green and Blacks was bought by Cadbury and is now part of Mondelez. It is nice, but I prefer Lindt. I prefer milk chocolate to dark. The Aldi and Lidl milk chocolate with hazelnuts is really good if you like nutty chocolate.

dementedma · 22/06/2020 21:47

Another vote for Aldi but I have to confess to being partial to a Ferrero Rocher or two

Purplephonecover · 22/06/2020 21:55

Lindor

YangShanPo · 22/06/2020 21:57

Got a bar of Love Cocoa chocolate for DH he said it was amazing and it turned out the company was started by a member of the Cadburys family.

Eckhart · 22/06/2020 22:01

The Co op decent ones are really nice. Especially the mint and orange ones. But milk and salted caramel are really good too.
