What chocolate still actually tastes nice?

I stopped buying chocolate at some point in the last 10 years because most of them - especially Cadbury, taste completely different and are waxy and horrible.

there are some very expensive things that still taste like proper chocolate, such as the fortnum and mason ones (sadly out of my price range to buy more than one bar a year!) but out of the normal ones you'd find in a supermarket- which ones are still nice and do you still buy?

Aldi chocolate is really nice and isn't oily.

boomboom1234 · 22/06/2020 22:04

Tony's chocolonely is AMAZING!

bluebluezoo · 22/06/2020 22:05

If you've got a Waitrose near you, their own brand range of chocolate bars in grey packaging is amazing. I used to love Cadbury's and have been living in disappointment since it started to taste rubbish until I discovered the Waitrose range

This.

Also M+S, their mountain bars are better than toblerone.

I was a chocolate addict until bloody mondelez. Still i suppose it’s stopped me eating so much.

Read the label, if it contains palm oil it will be waxy.

Green & Blacks is horrible, tastes like cardboard.

I buy Tonys Chocolonely, the salted caramel one but there is also a milk one without bits in.

Ariela · 22/06/2020 22:17

I just don't buy any chocolate.
Unless I am in Henley. www.gorvettandstone.com/
You can go in and buy as few as you like, so I usually get just 3 or 4.

C152H · 22/06/2020 22:18

In the UK - Ritter Sport whole hazelnut chocolate

When you can travel again (or get to the Finnish Church in London) - Fazer or Kalev chocolate

CarolVordermansArse · 22/06/2020 22:19

Lat time I looked Milka had palm oil, I looked because I had already tasted it and realised it was no longer proper chocolate, it may have improved since then but I doubt it.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 22/06/2020 22:21

Aldi Choceur is amazing.

Yup. No palm oil. The taste and texture is amazing compared to the shitefest that is Cadbury.

Verite1 · 22/06/2020 22:23

Tony Chocoloney - especially toffee pretzel and dark with sea salt and almonds.
Godiva - particularly dark with blood orange and milk with honey and almonds (posh toblerone)
Dark Lindt - with orange, raspberry or cherry

BogRollBOGOF · 22/06/2020 22:28

Aldi

Bog standard Easter eggs were so disappointing this year. Sort of squidgy.

Pinkbunny2811 · 22/06/2020 22:35

I often get chocolates at work so feel qualified to answer this quite well.

  1. Forrero rocher
  2. Godiva
  3. Hazelnut Lindt

Yum yum yum

SkepticalCat · 22/06/2020 22:44

Another vote for Aldi Choceur, esp their milk chocolate bar. It's got something like 39% cocoa solids, when the EU regulations for milk chocolate is minimum of 25% cocoa solids.

I also enjoy Galaxy, Lindt and Milka chocolate. Plus Cadbury Twirls as I think they are made in Ireland and taste different to Dairy Milk etc.

pigletpie2177 · 22/06/2020 22:49

Tony's chocolonely salted caramel 🤤 or any of them really but that is the best one imo

Kleptronic · 22/06/2020 22:58

Montezumas is definitely very nice. Pricey though.

Goodgollymiss · 22/06/2020 23:07

Just wanted to add that the Cadbury milk tray chocolates are complete shit now.... so disappointing

pigoons · 22/06/2020 23:10

i find a lot of chocolate too sweet so prefer dark. second montezumas recommendation - bought online at start of lockdown

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 22/06/2020 23:17

Lindt bunnies or bears
Milka
M&S Swiss milk chocolate
Lidl and Aldi
Ritter hazelnut

I think Whispers still taste the same

I was disappointed with Tony’s I thought it tasted like cooking chocolate (had a box of different flavours) maybe I need to try again

Milky bar tastes the same 😁

WhyDoesItAlways · 22/06/2020 23:50

Another vote for Aldi choceur. I have an old thread on here about chocolate looking for a replacement for the old dairy milk and I did a lot of taste testing, you know, for the cause and found Aldi the best. It is not as good as old dairy milk but the closest I could find. I think it helps that the chunks are still chunky unlike the flat dairy milk chunks you get now.

I haven't tried tonys or Waitrose so I may have to take up taste testing again!

Comefromaway · 22/06/2020 23:51

Tony’s. Dd brought some Back from Holland & we were hooked.

Zisforstripyoss · 22/06/2020 23:53

Ritter Sport
Tonys chocolonely
Choceur & Dairyfine from Aldi
Sainsburys own brand
Bizarrely, Mrs Mollys cheapo chocolate from Tesco is actually really nice. I bought some to make brownies and couldn't believe how nice is was when I had to quality control it before it went into the bake!

FiveFootTwoEyesOfBlue · 22/06/2020 23:57

I've enjoyed Green & Blacks and LIndt for ages, but has anyone tried the new Cadbury's Dark Milk? You can get a bag of dark milk giant buttons, as well as a bar. It really is good - silky smooth yet proper cocoa chocolatey taste.

margaritasbythesea · 23/06/2020 00:01

A great surprise to me thus, but Tesco Silky Milk Chocolate. It tastes like chocolate used to and is made with cocoa butter. My children can't believe it, having only had the rubbish that's mainly around at the moment

Longdistance · 23/06/2020 00:07

I like Galaxy.

I’m also partial to Marabou chocolate which can be bought in Ikea. It doesn’t last long Blush

AgeLikeWine · 23/06/2020 00:14

I like Ritter Sport, my favourite flavours are marzipan, rum & raisin, & honey salt almond. Lidl’s own brand is pretty good, and Cadbury’s dark milk is surprisingly good.

Do people really like Galaxy? It’s disgusting. It just tastes of cheap vegetable fat & sugar, with no discernible chocolate taste at all.

drigon · 23/06/2020 00:20

Lidl chocolate, particularly the Rich Milk one. It has more cocoa solids in it, I think; it's so delicious.
