What chocolate still actually tastes nice?

I stopped buying chocolate at some point in the last 10 years because most of them - especially Cadbury, taste completely different and are waxy and horrible.

there are some very expensive things that still taste like proper chocolate, such as the fortnum and mason ones (sadly out of my price range to buy more than one bar a year!) but out of the normal ones you'd find in a supermarket- which ones are still nice and do you still buy?

Lidl and Aldi every time. Ritter Sport.

thegcatsmother · 23/06/2020 00:57

Galler is great, especially the Piemontais bar and the Croustillante. Not sure how to get them in the UK though.

Tony's, Lindt, Milka, Ritter Sport (either the light blue or dark blue milk chocolate). I spent 13 years in Belgium, eating my way through the chocolate as my research project!

I not that Milka has also been taken over by Kraft.

Lindt.

I've not had chocolate for a long time but on Sunday, for Fathers Day one of my DD's bought her dad a giant Fruit and Nut Toblerone. Kraft/Mondelez I know, I know … but It's was really nice.

ladybirdsarelovely33 · 23/06/2020 01:39

Never in my life heard of Tonys chocolate. I live in London.
Where do you get it from?
I like Antony Berg chocolate from Denmark

MangoFeverDream · 23/06/2020 02:27

Whitaker. That is all

TimeWastingButFun · 23/06/2020 02:42

Purdys. Absolutely the best.

AlpineSnow · 23/06/2020 02:49

Tesco fair trade milk chocolate tasted like Dairy milk used to but it doesn't seem to be fair trade any more so might not be the same.

ComeBy · 23/06/2020 03:44

I like the IKEA Marabou, too.

LunaNorth · 23/06/2020 03:49

Green and Black’s.
Moser Roth (Aldi).
Tony’s (a bit sweeter than the rest).

LunaNorth · 23/06/2020 03:50

Willy’s Cacao is also amazing.

ShamanYou · 23/06/2020 03:51

I only really eat Hotel Chocolat (get a box/slab/fruit once a month), but Laderach chocolate is the best I've ever, ever, tasted (have to order from their website). I literally have an orgasm thinking about it, true sexy chocolate. Grin

ShamanYou · 23/06/2020 03:52

That'll teach me not to read properly.. green & blacks from a supermarket is nice. They have taster boxes quite often with 8/10 little bars to try.

EmperorCovidula · 23/06/2020 03:55

M&S chocolate is nice.

Hollyhobbi · 23/06/2020 03:59

Green & Black's, Butler's, Roisins handmade chocolate which is available in Aldi in Ireland. Tescos coffee flavour chocolate. Lidnt, the ones in the red wrapper. Used to like Lily O'briens but I find them a bit heavy now.

sweatsareallthatfitmenow · 23/06/2020 04:17

I'm in Australia. I got a block of milka the other day and it was disgusting. It used to be my favourite. It tasted like American chocolate.

sweatsareallthatfitmenow · 23/06/2020 04:21

And I see someone has said it now has palm oil in it. Well there you go Sad

YouAndMeAndTheDevilMakesThree · 23/06/2020 04:37

Cadbury Darkmilk and Galaxy Darker Milk are both surprisingly nice

Thepigeonsarecoming · 23/06/2020 04:39

Aldi’s own, Dairy Fine tastes like original Diary Milk before the recipe was changed

silverstrawberry · 23/06/2020 04:56

I recently discovered terrys dark chocolate orange 🍊 it doesn't taste waxy or too sugary personally I don't usually like dark chocolate but this was a game changer. Bournville buttons also dark chocolate give those a try !they can last longer because you only need a few
Can you tell I'm pregnant ? Sorry if this has changed my tastebuds and the chocolate ends up being awful but sometimes the simple things in life are the most extraordinary 😬

pollywobble · 23/06/2020 05:38

Lindor dark balls, Lindt dark with caramel and seasalt and surprisingly good is Asda's Smartprice Dark

Green and Blacks always tastes a bit stale to me and a lot of the milk chocolate I liked (Cadburys Galaxy Thornton's Toblerone Hotel C) seem oversweet with a funny aftertaste

Ritascornershop · 23/06/2020 05:43

Green and Black’s. I find Lindt too sweet.

BadLad · 23/06/2020 08:10

Milkybars are still delicious.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 23/06/2020 08:27

Marabou. Ikea sells massive bars of it 😋

wowfudge · 23/06/2020 08:39

Terry's always used to make dark chocolate oranges and there were chocolate lemons too. Probably 40 years ago. Chocolate limes would be lovely.
