Water at night (beaches, riverbanks etc) I have this weird feeling that the water is full of monster-type things that only come out at night🤷‍♀️ Could never swim in the dark!
Car park barriers - think they’re going to come down on my car and kill me so I have go through really quickly!
Car transporters - oh no! Can’t follow these on the road, in case the cars drop on to my car... get the absolute panic with them.

Poetryinaction · 08/06/2020 02:28

This makes for very interesting reading. Mine are:

  • turtlenecks. I hate anything restrictive. Why would you want to bind your neck like that?
  • the woods. Dark and oppressive, and scary
  • thatched roofs. Dark and oppressive, makes me think of a heavy fringe like Claudia Winkleman
  • big mugs. Too much thick china to get your mouth around
  • lukewarm tea. Reminds me of dirty dishwater
  • dirty dishwater left in the sink. Any stagnant water really.
  • pets. I am a bit germ phobic and hate sitting in dog hair, smelling cat food, the thought of dogs or cats in the bedroom!!
  • marshmallows. Urgh! Powdery, fatty, gelatinous, sticky
  • sweet and sour. Turns my stomach, even the smell.
Itstheprinciple · 08/06/2020 05:58

Dry sponges for me. Eeew!

CoffeeRunner · 08/06/2020 06:06

Porridge.

Jjjjjj1981 · 08/06/2020 06:57

Wooden lolly sticks.... that feeling when you bite through the lolly and hit stick......gahhhh!!

maddenlightfoot · 08/06/2020 07:23

Now I'm really disturbed @AntiHop as I've also always found the MOT symbol really freaky. In fact, as a child I was weirded out by a strange symbol I could see in my minds eye and it was only as an adult that I saw the MOT symbol and thought 'that's it!'. So strange that someone else feels the same way Confused

FavouriteFightingFrenchman · 08/06/2020 07:23

Oh, and big hoop earrings because I can't stop thinking about what could happen.

@JesusInTheCabbageVan

A couple of years ago I gave someone a hug, they were wearing massive hoop hearings but they were the kind that were not a full hoop, they only went 3/4 of the way round. Somehow the hoop caught in my nostril and when we broke away from the hug... Ouch. Trip to A&E that night to have nose put back together... Grin

Dieu · 08/06/2020 07:25

Cheese grater.

Hovverry · 08/06/2020 07:31

Long finger nails, piercings, tattoos.
Dogs with chopped off tails or, in US, mutilated ears.

TweetUsOnFacebook · 08/06/2020 09:00

God yes, long finger nails. Especially when the owner tippy taps them on a surface. It makes me cringe.

keepingbees · 08/06/2020 09:27

I hate that Chanel 4 thing too! I said to my DH it creeps me out, I think it's the sound.

BearSoFair · 08/06/2020 11:32

@TweetUsOnFacebook that reminds me of another of mine, I don't mind the Channel 4 metal thing but the BBC 2 ident that is like fabric being sliced and rippling...no no no. It makes me feel a bit sick!

CaffeineInfusion · 08/06/2020 12:35

I'm not keen on heights, but I do have a fear of falling. I can do escalators as I can hold on, but I don't fate we'll in lifts. I project my fear, so if see people working off ground level.. On step ladders, up on scaffolding... Anything off ground level without holding on, my stomach goes, I feel dizzy, I have to leave or at the very least walk away.

spikyplants · 08/06/2020 12:43

Wool, especially wet wool 🤢 Weird considering I used to knit and crochet a lot as a child. Adolescence gave me hot and often sweaty hands so that has a lot to do with it, I guess.

Scraping of cutlery against crockery - I can feel that in my fillings Shock

The smell of milk in hot drinks. Makes me want to gag. Black coffee always for me. Too much stirring and spoon clanking in the cup gives me the rage.

Definitely long nails on men or overtly long unsculpted natural nails - particularly with thick cuticles Shock

Feet. Especially cracked exposed ones.

Bananas.

lowpercentred · 08/06/2020 14:50

Studs on sofas. Cooked fish not topped and tailed. Corned beef looking skin.

lowpercentred · 08/06/2020 14:57

I hate heights and being alongside very big/tall things. For instance not only could I not go up the Berlin TV tower but I struggle to look up at it from the ground. When I do, or even if I think about it, I get a tingling in my genitals. It's not unpleasant at all and apparently part of the fight or flight response. I couldn't stand on a quay alongside a huge ship, same sensation.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 08/06/2020 15:03

I can see now how the MOT symbol freaks people out as it can look like a scary face to some.
Me I just see a windmill or a mountain range.

SweetPetrichor · 08/06/2020 15:10

Microfibre cloths, wet or dry...but I still use them, I just cringe!
Subway platforms with trains on both sides...it makes me want to sit down and cling to the platform
Pedestrian footbridges over dual carriageways etc...similar to subway platforms, its the height combined with speeding vehicles that gives me the willies.

IagoWithABlackberry · 08/06/2020 15:26

Semi detached houses. Have never been entirely sure why. When I was young I thought it was just because it epitomised suburbia but now it feels like you're being partnered up with another household.

Ski37 · 08/06/2020 15:41

@InvisibleToEveryone I’ve never driven on the M5 and after seeing that part of it I hope I never have to!!!

Razzlefrazzle · 08/06/2020 15:43

Hot dogs. The smell is bad enough but I just can't touch them. Shame both my kids love them Envy

dayswithaY · 08/06/2020 15:54

There's a particular style of house from the 1970s with a bank of floor to ceiling windows at the front of the house that I absolutely cannot stand to look at, no idea why. There's also a street of houses near me that is the same - I can't look at the houses or be near them, I've even dreamed about this street and woken up in a panic.

Regarding the MOT sign and men with a gold signet ring I wonder if there was a creepy kids programme where the bad guy wore such a ring or an episode of Tales of the Unexpected or Hammer House where there was something unnerving and you could see the MOT sticker in the car window whilst the creepy man was being creepy IYSWIM? Sometimes things get captured in your mind like that and you don't know why, seeing as so many of us share the same fear?

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 08/06/2020 15:58

The bread knife. I had a dream about slicing into my hand with one a couple of years ago, and when I went to see family the next day they asked me to help by slicing some baguettes. I started but couldn’t carry on with it as I kept imagining cutting myself. The following year at Xmas I went to a different family members house. Again asked my to help by slicing bread. Started doing it and promptly sliced into my finger.

I have no trouble at home, but somehow being somewhere else using someone else’s knives sends me into a tizzy Grin

I also agree with most of these:

  • wool (especially wet wool )
  • bridges
  • the sea (gives me the willies looking at how vast it is and imagining how deep it is!)
  • babies in bike seats (especially without a helmet Angry )
  • kids in sandals (I imagine them stubbing their little toes)
  • standing near a cliff or seeing anyone else doing so. Had complete sense of humour failure on holiday last year when the teenage DCs were messing about up a big hill!
  • cotton wool - bleaurgh

Probably loads of other things too!

I had a reading book at primary school and saying the main characters name made me feel sick, so whenever I had to read aloud to the teacher I would stop and look at him and he’d say the name and then I’d carry on. I’m sure he thought I couldn’t read it, but I just couldn’t say it Grin

Thecazelets · 08/06/2020 16:11

Laughing at the prolapsed Peugeot 206 - and now I can't unsee it!

I had to google it but I think the MOT symbol looks a bit like an angry face which could be why it's unnerving. Also reminds me a bit of a terrifying children's TV series in the early 80s too (adaptation of John Wyndham's Chocky.)

Plsnomorepeppapig · 08/06/2020 16:15

Metal Tape measures that spring back quickly into their container. Hate them. Can’t bare them. Makes me think of guillotines.
