I think the police have a very good idea of who they want to flush out and that is why they are releasing what they are rleealesing as they are doing it. Thye know what happened IMO and are waiting for someone (or multiple someones) to come forward.

PrincessConsuelaVaginaHammock · 06/06/2020 12:57

Fuck, I was aware Amaral had been done for perjury but hadn't realised until now it related to another child case. I had been thinking to myself, wonder how he'll feel if it does turn out the German man did it considering the way he's behaved towards the parents.

GreenTeaMug · 06/06/2020 12:58

Look at how he behaved towards Joana's mother.

It is deeply deeply horrifying.

Smallsteps88 · 06/06/2020 13:01

Now I’ve seen all of this I am equally put off Germany tbh.

Because one paedophile comes from there? You do realise there are paedophiles living, unchecked, within miles of your house?

40 minuets it's not just that it's attracting deviants it's the utterly shit police that put me off too.

All the outraged locals focusing their anger on the irritating mccans for wanting to find out what happened to their daughter, why not focus on the incompetent and obstructive police.

If anyone saw the Jeremy Bamber and the part that utterly shameful initial 'detective' ' had to play...

GreenTeaMug · 06/06/2020 13:04

My aunt used to say she would never go to Germany because many members of our family died in WW2 there.

Didn't stop her buying a BMW mind.

Anyway.... I used to work in child protection field and there really are paedophiles everywhere. People scoff and say 'there is not a paedophile on every corner'. Maybe not.... but IME there are paedohiles everywhere and every single one of us will know more than one and not even know it. Maybe I am jaded due to 20 odd years working in the area.

deepwatersolo · 06/06/2020 13:08

I had been thinking to myself, wonder how he'll feel if it does turn out the German man did it considering the way he's behaved towards the parents.

Last autumn Amaral was on a podcast and predicted they will 'scapegoat' a german paedophile. I don't think he can ever be convinced that it weren't the parents... Maybe he has 'mommy issues', idk.

I actually don't believe this 'new' suspect is all that new (which is why Amaral could make that statement). I think authorities kind of panicked now that a hearing came up that might set the guy free from prison early, and they went public to prevent that. And also to make the identity public so that if he walks, people will know and take precautions, and he won't be able to strike so easily.

This is obviously problematic from a 'rule of law/justice' stand point. But what do you do, really, when you are convinced you are releasing a ticking time bomb, but have no way to prevent the release... A conundrum, for sure.

PrincessConsuelaVaginaHammock · 06/06/2020 13:09

Yeah if you look at the prevalence of paedophila in the general population, there might not be one on every corner but it'll be closer to that than many people would like to think.

Swiftsseason · 06/06/2020 13:11

Buttery puffin I have long long said, the woeful sentences for anyone who lays a hand on a hair on a child's head is too small. What does it say about us as a society?

When an entire life will be deeply badly affected by any early abuse.. Even if its not considered to be so intrusive or violent.

We should be doing so much more to protect children s d make any act agaisnt them is severely punished? Surely?

SisterAgatha · 06/06/2020 13:13

I’m allowed to not want to go to Germany. People are allowed to have their own preferences. This just adds to a long list of reasons I don’t fancy Germany. I don’t want to go to Dubai either, must I get MN permission to not want to go somewhere?

Swiftsseason · 06/06/2020 13:15

Green tea mug I don't doubt it.

I can't understand why people get so utterly viscous when people urge caution. There was a discussion on here and one aspect was the poster did nt feel comfortable with her mils bf, whom she didnt know, baby sitting her child along with Mil.

Posters scoffing at her for being concerned.

I wish all parents could be on their guard if really do...

I have very very much close family friends who are male. Even then I always keep 2% doubt about them, even other male family members.
And female of course but its more likely to be men. I simply don't implicitly trust anyone.

ItsInTheShed · 06/06/2020 13:21

no children bodies ever recovered?

Smallsteps88 · 06/06/2020 13:21

Last autumn Amaral was on a podcast and predicted they will 'scapegoat' a german paedophile

Well they had been investigating CB since May 2017 so Amaral will have been pretty sure by last autumn that the police thought CB was the man.

I actually don't believe this 'new' suspect is all that new

No he’s not, they have been looking at him for 3 years. The only thing that has changed is they’ve made this information public.

I’m allowed to not want to go to Germany.

Of course! It’s just you said “Now I’ve seen all of this I am equally put off Germany tbh.”

Which suggested you were only put of Germany due to the existence of one paedophile who is currently in prison. Which is a pretty flimsy reason not to want to visit an entire country.

GreenTeaMug · 06/06/2020 13:21

It's wise to be careful.

What I could never understand is the parents who would be too embarrassed about standing firm on known risks to proetct their chidlren. Parents who a family member had been convicted for child porn offences but were too embarrassed to say something like 'n o, you cannot have your grandchildren stay overnight unsupervised'.

That is just a mild example. I have plenty I am not willing to share on this thread.

I would just urge that people should not be complacent about any potential risk.

Anyway, I just hope that the McCanns can find some sort of peace. I think of them alot.

Blackbear19 · 06/06/2020 13:24

No children bodies ever recovered?

That seems to be the common theme. Wtf has he done with the bodies? Assuming it is same guy.

Blackbear19 · 06/06/2020 13:29

Anyone know what the timeline is likely to be between him being named and formally charged?

If he was in the UK it would normally be within a few days of him being named.

ButteryPuffin · 06/06/2020 13:39

Arguably Germany becomes a safer country to visit given that they've managed to jail this guy. Paedophiles are in every country, it's a question of whether they are pursued to the full extent of the law.

diddl · 06/06/2020 13:39

@SisterAgatha

And the Diogo Silva they are looking for is very similar to the 2013 efit. One person talks and the whole thing comes down. That’s why they are offering reassurance he is in prison now.
That's interesting as I don't think that it resembles CB.
PrincessConsuelaVaginaHammock · 06/06/2020 13:41

I don't think he can ever be convinced that it weren't the parents...

The alternative explanation is too horrifying to contemplate.

Dk20 · 06/06/2020 13:42

@Blackbear19

No children bodies ever recovered?

That seems to be the common theme. Wtf has he done with the bodies? Assuming it is same guy.

Exactly, how have all these bodies disappeared without any evidence of how they disappeared or no trace of where their bodies are now
EdithWeston · 06/06/2020 13:43

One newspaper report about the rape for which he has just been convicted said it came about because a (criminal?) associate nicked his video camera which contained footage of the attack and another

There are reports which say his offending is unusual, because there is no distinct preferred age/type.

There are reports of a number of crimes, but that does not seem to match the published list of known convictions.

So it does seem as if there is a considerable amount known about his offending that is not public.

I was wondering if the latest police plea is anything to do with the conclusion of the rape trial, meaning the police are now investigating actively what else was on that video camera. If there is another (adult) victim, maybe the wording about him being safely banged up is to embolden her to come forward.

And, sadly, if there is information known to the police from other child victim/s perhaps that is why the German police believe that MM is dead and how her death came about based on pattern of crime when the victim is young. It seems there is a gap between what they know and what they can prove.

And I hope it can be bridged, one way or the other. For I hope the McCanns find closure, but I wouid not want to see the wrong criminal convicted if the facts cannot be established beyond reasonable doubt

Arewedone · 06/06/2020 13:44

They must be pretty sure they have the right guy. There were 4-5 separate recorded sightings of a blond man 6ft tall around the apartment in the days leading up to MC going missing. It’s unfair all the blame for incompetence is being hung onto the Portuguese police when the British police also had access to the files. Surely phone records/calls in the immediate location should have been the first thing checked via triangulation.

Blackbear19 · 06/06/2020 13:50

The reason people are finger pointing at the Portuguese police is the fact they didn't treat the apartment as a crime scene and were so single minded that the parents were to blame. Going as far to write a book saying so.

Joana the other wee girl who went missing who's mum confessed - did she really get those bruises falling down stairs.

It begs the question would Kate McCann also have fallen down stairs if the media wasn't watching every move.

SisterAgatha · 06/06/2020 13:52

That’s what I’m thinking, this man doesn’t seem like a criminal mastermind who has evaded the law for the last 13 years. I think he’s been lucky because of the failings of many countries policing.

The smith sighting seems so relevant. It was in the direction of Kelly’s bar, near to a complex where Diogo Silva now works. (Someone on twitter found his LinkedIn).

That’s what I mean, it’s so obvious they want that associate and a girlfriend to talk. They are baiting them. If we can’t catch you, the public will know who you are anyway.

DigOutThoseLemonHandWipes · 06/06/2020 13:53

I think Ameral's determination to pin Joana then Madeline on the parents was because he didn't want the area's tourist trade harmed by people knowing there was an uncaught child abductor/killer on the loose rather than this being in direct cohoots with the perpetrator(s).
