IMO they are not being cagey, they are just releasing their cards at this moment. Why would they give CB’s lawyers the chance to start building a defence.

DigOutThoseLemonHandWipes · 13/06/2020 16:41

@Blackbear19

Where has it been said they aren't actively investigating the case of the German girl?

I am fairly sure the German police are trying to get him for as many as they can.

@Blackbear19 I'm sure they are re-looking at Inga and any other missing children than seem to have vanished without as trace now. But it doesn't appear to have been a "live" investigation prior to CB coming into the frame. The point I was trying to make is the German police must have had some information or evidence to make a connection between MM and CB- they would have no reason to be looking into her case so something has triggered their involvement. As CB is in prison in Germany I still think confession/brag to a cellmate that contains some information that makes it plausible is the most like source.
BertieBotts · 13/06/2020 17:03

I think some people just base their own understanding of other people on things like overly dramatic poorly acted soap operas Confused

You see it on MN all the time, folk badgering someone in a RL sensitive situation (like a violent husband, or an unexpected pregnancy or in-law situation) for updates constantly and going off in a strop when they aren't forthcoming to the timetable they expect.

AlternativePerspective · 13/06/2020 17:43

IMO they are not being cagey, they are just releasing their cards at this moment. Why would they give CB’s lawyers the chance to start building a defence. because it’s the law. The defence legally have a right to see all the evidence.

Added to which, it’s the prosecution’s job to prove that he did it, beyond all reasonable doubt. Everyone is entitled to a defence, and police being found to withhold evidence so as to hamper that defence would be guilty of gross misconduct.

BeyondDreamsOfBeyondFourWalls · 13/06/2020 17:44

They only have a right to see evidence once he is charged, so they want as much in a long list as possible before charging him.

BeyondDreamsOfBeyondFourWalls · 13/06/2020 17:49

So the police won't release everything they have into the public domain anyway, cause then he'll be able to find out what evidence they have and start building a defence before he's even charged.

Hearwego · 13/06/2020 19:13

The way the abduction was handled in the first place was pretty badly handled. This wasn’t 1970s corrupt Police, this was 2007.
I do understand that this was a complicated case, with little to go on.
But that Amaral looked bent to me. He even wrote a book blaming the McCanns, after he was sacked as a police chief.
Blood appalling man.

Hearwego · 13/06/2020 19:20

I don’t think the Police always give too much notice of details with witness statements. They know they are not all accurate.
I once attended a security course in central London. We had to watch a 5 minute scenario, without taking notes, then write a report on what we’d seen.
The differences in the reports were amazing, everyone different , with the exception of a few that had picked up the main points.
Out of sightings that night, I’d assume the Tanner man sighting would make more sense, the timing seems right. Also the clothing MM was wearing, the pyjamas.
I know a man cane forward, but wasn’t he picking up his daughter from a crèche?
Why would she be in her pyjamas and barefoot if she was leaving the crèche?

Smallsteps88 · 13/06/2020 19:35

They probably have little floor beds in the crèches for night time care. Far easier to have children already in PJs so when you collect them you don’t have to change them to put them in bed at home.

DigOutThoseLemonHandWipes · 13/06/2020 19:59

It was a night crèche.

deepwatersolo · 13/06/2020 20:31

Ok, German media are now throwing everything and the kitchen sink at CB it seems. They are now trying to link him to the murder of a boy in Frankfurt Hoechst in 1998, citing a strong resemblance of him to a picture drawn from some witness description.
I remember that case well. One year prior I passed that spot (I walked there pretty much daily), when some guy with a blond wig came out of the bushes (skinny, muscular bare arms, clearly a male). He just stood up - and I ran. I ran toward the street and away from the park area, where I would normally cross the ‚pedestrians only’ bridge. (I never used the tunnel, only kids would, I think).
Afterwards I felt silly, because the guy had actually not been threatening or anything. And I realized it was Carneval, so... But yeah, one year later - I had already moved to another country - I read a dead boy had been found in that tunnel...

Smallsteps88 · 13/06/2020 20:43

Sad I’m glad you ran deep. No matter how silly you felt.

Hearwego · 13/06/2020 21:16

Suppose the German suspect, admits he was in the area and used his phone but can’t remember who he called.
I don’t see how that’s definite evidence that he abducted MM.
Deepwater that’s scary!

Blackbear19 · 13/06/2020 21:22

Digout, yes I see what you are getting at, something has prompted the German police into action.

Deepwater do you think the guy you saw could have been the same man?

Hearwego · 13/06/2020 21:29

No cctv, no forensics, no eye witness, a few alleged sightings. Not much to go on.
It’s a shame the McCanns were ripped off by a private investigator company too...

Alicia870 · 13/06/2020 22:25

I've just finished the Netflix documentary and the lady who was staying in the same resort who saw two fair haired men lurking around the mccanns apt along with her sister seems similar to description of Christian b?
I just feel so sorry for the mccanns after everything they've endured. Their strength is admirable in the face of the kind of prolonged torture that every parent would cite as their worst nightmare. I wish them peace and closure to this ordeal and pray for Madeline

deepwatersolo · 13/06/2020 22:27

Blackbear frankly, this is the first time I have seen that drawing. On the drawing the guy has a scar at the mouth (and they hypothesize it might be from a fixed ‚Hasenscharte‘ - so a fixed birth defect). ‚My guy‘ didn‘t have that. He was in his twenties, muscular but lean (either he wore no top or a tankie though it was too cold for that) and the face was that of a ‚blond‘/fair’ man (a bit of a blondish 3-day beard, not ugly, just disturbing with the long blonde hair lady wig, so it was not just a dude with long hair, it is hard to explain, he had feminized himself in a half arsed way somehow). So, apart from the scar, it is possible from the looks - but what are the odds?
As I said, it was carnival time - idk. On the one hand I still feel silly, on the other hand, truth be told, for the remaining 6 months I lived there, I avoided that park and always walked the road, even though it meant 5 extra minutes of walking.

ButteryPuffin · 13/06/2020 22:40

@deepwatersolo That experience reminds me so much of the first chapter in Maggie O'Farrell's book I Am, I Am, I Am: Seventeen Brushes With
Death. She was out for a walk while working on a summer abroad or something of that sort, and some bloke just appeared and started walking along with her and talking to her - she had a very strong feeling that he meant to harm her but kept talking and saying her boss was on his way to meet her and so on and she got away. She reported it to the police and was pretty much laughed at because they said he'd not done anything. He was convicted years later of serial rape and murder. It's a very good book but that section is especially chilling.

deepwatersolo · 13/06/2020 22:56

Wow, that sounds chilling!
Yeah, it could have been nefarious. Or not. I‘ll never know. All I know is in that moment this seriously freaked me out - and it has forever ruined men of that type for me...haha.

Hearwego · 13/06/2020 23:12

I haven’t watched part 8 of Netflix. Wasn’t there two blonde men spotted? The lady above the McCanns apartment apparently saw a man close the gate of the McCanns flat, but did so quietly as if he didn’t want to be seen? This was the afternoon of her disappearance.
Bloody heck that’s got to be something in that hasn’t there?

GreyGardens88 · 13/06/2020 23:18

German police have admitted they don't have any evidence MM was murdered. I'm now assuming all they have to go off is the flimsy chat room messages that anyone could have said. Oh dear

IdblowJonSnow · 13/06/2020 23:34

Greygardens, do you have a link to that please?

GingerLemonTea · 13/06/2020 23:49

.

BertieBotts · 14/06/2020 01:29

Fucking hell I have just read about that Frankfurt murder and it's chilling. I actually jumped when I opened the efit. It does look like Brückner, doesn't it? I would actually report your potential sighting if I were you, deep. It might not be related but still. The "scar" could have been a temporary lesion, food or a mistake or anything.
