I really don't see why no one should judge the parents. Doctors especially. I think it's perfectly understandable that some people judge why you'd leave three toddlers in a room alone for long period of time including leaving the premises in a foreign country.
My parents were pretty lazy but would never ever have allowed this to happen.

And they unfortunately paid the price. This is only one reason we don't leave our very young dc alone. There are also many other things that could have happened especially leaving 2 yo for any amount of time regardless if they're sleeping or not. It's astounding tbh.

bruffin · 06/06/2020 11:29

If the beach was busy and the little boy got into distress in the water then surely someone would have seen and gone to his aid. You wouldn't just look and watch if you saw a kid floundering in the water

I dont think most people flounder in the water when they drown

Swiftsseason · 06/06/2020 11:30

Also begs the question just how many attacks on young children can one person commit and be allowed still roam utterly free.

flapjackfairy · 06/06/2020 11:32

What enrages me ( and i am sure all of us ) is that these people get convicted, seem to serve a short sentence then are free to wander at will picking up more victims. Why are they not incarcerated for life if they are any risk ar all ? The whole system needs to change. If he serves this latest 7 year sentence ( no doubt only part of it , time off for good behaviour ha ha etc etc ) he will still be relatively young with plenty of time to destroy other innocent lives. Please God they get him for something that really will mean a life sentence this time !

Blackbear19 · 06/06/2020 11:33

That phrase: ‘over the years, loyalties may have changed’ it makes me think: ‘yes, but changed in what way?’

I imagine that they are looking for someone who possibly provided an alibi at the time to come forward.
Ex-girlfriend, ex-friend, someone who was rightly very frightened of a very dangerous man.

flapjackfairy · 06/06/2020 11:33

@Swiftsseason. Cross posted. Completelyagree

ArriettyJones · 06/06/2020 11:36

Reading between the lines, I think the decision was made by one of them, and the other parent was never wholly in agreement with it. It’s a miracle they’re still married in those circumstances, but one of them is clearly very forgiving.

For that reason alone, in case I’m right, I will not add to the more cautious parent’s distress by endlessly rehashing the decision.

Pugsrus · 06/06/2020 11:39

In the 80s we were dragged to pontins, kids were marched out at 9 pm .
My parents left us in the shally alone ,nothing to stop anyone climbing in ,or us wandering of .
They came back pissed when it ended .
I never did the same with my kids ,ever

Blackbear19 · 06/06/2020 11:39

What's the point in judging them?

DeltaFlyer · 06/06/2020 11:39

With regards to the posters saying you can't smuggle a child into the uk;
The little boy 'Adam' the torso found in the Thames was believed to have been smuggled in from Africa.

peaceanddove · 06/06/2020 11:40

Anyone else find it chilling that Clement Freud lived locally and invited the McCann's to his villa? He is now a known paedophile.

KatherineJaneway · 06/06/2020 11:40

@Smallsteps88

Thanks for the new thread. I didn't get back to the previous one in time to create a new one.

covetingthepreciousthings · 06/06/2020 11:40

Ex-girlfriend, ex-friend, someone who was rightly very frightened of a very dangerous man.

The press seem to be saying they are looking to identify his British girlfriend who he was with for a year 2004-2005.

LiveintheNow · 06/06/2020 11:42

Completely agree flapjackfairy

From the Independent - "He had been convicted for child sex abuse for the first time in 1994"

Systems do need to change so that there is a way of tracking this type of offender wherever they are.

Blackbear19 · 06/06/2020 11:42

That true Deltaflyer, but they don't really know much about Adam where's the rest of him? And I assume he was dead before his torso was brought to the UK.

I was really thinking about a live abducted child.

IHateCoronavirus · 06/06/2020 11:44

Regardless of if he committed these crimes he has been convicted of other horrendous acts. There must have been people at stages of him life that knew something was ‘off’ with his personality/moral compass.
The same with other serial killers etc. Is anything/enough done earlier to intervene? Can anything be done?
As a young teacher in 2002 I taught a boy (14) at the time who clearly was very disturbed. He would draw/make models of mutilated bodies, and talk about carrying out hideous acts. He found a wild baby rabbit on the school field and killed and mutilated it in front of traumatised kids. He was punished for the rabbit, his home life was looked into. Other than that not much else seemed to happen. When I tried to talk to him about it I was quickly advised not to as he seemed to enjoy the attention too much. But all these years later I wonder about him. There was something very dark there that would have taken more than ‘growing out of it’ to overcome.

SisterAgatha · 06/06/2020 11:49

Yes, they’ve been looking for a German man with a British girlfriend for a while. This bar is the one the Smith party were leaving when they saw a man carrying a small child.

DeltaFlyer · 06/06/2020 11:52

Blackbear they do believe he was brought live into the uk for a ritual killing/sacrifice.
Very sad case as they traced the region he was raised but not his family.
Something to do with his diet and things he had been exposed to.

SisterAgatha · 06/06/2020 11:53

And the Diogo Silva they are looking for is very similar to the 2013 efit. One person talks and the whole thing comes down. That’s why they are offering reassurance he is in prison now.

KatherineJaneway · 06/06/2020 11:54

@Caelano

Links? I’m assuming something credible, not the Daily Fail.

The link to the missing 5 year old girl was reported on the BBC: www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-52937626 and is on the front page of the Telegraph today I believe. For the rest I am sure you are able to use Google to view and read the many articles on this cuurent break in the case.

IamPickleRick · 06/06/2020 11:56

I feel like that too, the police seem to want to make people know they are on to them. Publicising the phone number seemed like a bait to me. I agree the police know who they want to come forward, this is all just pressure to come forward before they are caught.

SouthWestmom · 06/06/2020 11:57

The likes of Breukner won’t have associated with honest upstanding members of the community.

I don't think this is true. I lived abroad and in a transient place lots of people mix/you all know each other/ you'd be in the same bar a lot/work the same venues.

I'd be able to give information about people where I lived and maybe provide a tiny puzzle piece.

SouthWestmom · 06/06/2020 11:58

Not as in: they killed a child, obviously. Just possible things that seemed odd or not even odd then but do in light of this etc

PrincessConsuelaVaginaHammock · 06/06/2020 11:58

The main issue with judging, I think, is that it isn't relevant to the thread. This is about a new suspect. People saying they wouldn't (or would've/did) do it isn't anything to do with that. If it were a thread asking how would you feel about people who left their kids while they went out, then it would be on topic and the thread presumably would contain people who actually wanted to hear the views of others on that. This isn't, so it's just self-indulgence.

40minutes23seconds · 06/06/2020 11:59

I hope those bleating how they would never have left the dc will not derail this thread.

I also really hope that the German police will do a good job and get this monster locked away for a very long time.

It's probably silly but I could never travel to the Algarve now knowing that it attracts such unsavoury characters.
