I strongly suspect the Portuguese police have some high up people part of this paedophile ring. Either that or they are just completely useless and incompetent.

SisterAgatha · 10/06/2020 00:49

I don’t get the relevance of his van being at the property after the abduction Blush

IHateCoronavirus · 10/06/2020 03:44

@SisterAgatha

I don’t get the relevance of his van being at the property after the abduction Blush
As far as I understand, the property hadn’t been in his name for several months by this time. He had no reason to be there. The fact that his van was there raises the question ‘why?’
KatherineJaneway · 10/06/2020 06:21

I actually don't think the Portuguese police want to solve this crime

It is a major embarrassment for them so I think they wish it would go away quietly. I think they assumed the parents did it so didn't bother with any efforts elsewhere.

Mrsemcgregor · 10/06/2020 07:28

I may be going beyond tin foil hat here....Not necessarily related to MM but I have some red flags waving because of some of the facts and suspicions on this thread - Does anyone else have a niggling feeling that a number of well known and loved celebrities seem to love the Algarve and it’s well known that they regularly holiday or even own property there? I won’t name any names as it’s all speculation. But The Algarve is one of the few holiday places you here about celebrities being.

Actually now I’ve written it down it feels silly, it’s not that strange. I’m sure lots of brits have homes their, it’s beautiful and close and not as built up as Spain. Just tiny little niggles.

Mrsemcgregor · 10/06/2020 07:29

*hear not here.

TooSadToSay · 10/06/2020 07:53

Could not agree more with you Supersumkin2!!

Swiftsseason · 10/06/2020 07:54

Apparently he told an ex he had a '' horrible '' job to do in praia, but that it would change his life and he would by see her for a while.

He made enough money to buy land and disused factory and a mobile home.

I assume he sold his other videos. He wasn't an isolated loner. He was charming, sociable with many fingers in many pies.
He was a hustler who did anything to make money and get by.

There are networks and I think he sold his attack video and he sold video of Maddie or something like that.

pinkhousesarebest · 10/06/2020 08:00

This is so upsetting. The Mc Canns often said that, retrospectively, they knew someone must have been in the appartment when they went back to do the checks. Just hidden and waiting. The testimony of the Irish lady is chilling and bears that out completely. He came to hers and to the American woman's home with a toolkit: you cannot get anything les opportunistic. No-one, let alone people relaxing on holiday, would stand a chance against that.

Blackbear19 · 10/06/2020 08:22

It's so chilling.

I read last night the German police were revisiting other missing persons enquiries to see if there are any links.

Must be horrible for the McCann's to feel so close to knowing but so far from seeing him convicted.

Blackbear19 · 10/06/2020 08:30

Madeleine's face became so well known so quickly that I doubt that he'd have sold any videos of her.
He wouldn't have risked someone passing that on to the police or police finding it in some sick collection.

dayswithaY · 10/06/2020 08:30

I agree about the celebs with homes in the Algarve, I just remembered several and a quick Google gives you names that will ring alarm bells.

Could be a coincidence.

Swiftsseason · 10/06/2020 08:30

I wonder if the money is still there for people who talk? The reward?
If someone in the police could break ranks that would be something as well as anyone close to the case. Perhaps now is the best time to offer a reward.

It just shows how vulnerable holiday makers are. Behoves us all to remember we are walking into other people's lives for a few weeks.

Swiftsseason · 10/06/2020 08:33

Carol smile, ronan keating, bonnie Tyler!!
The only dodgy one was cf.

Swiftsseason · 10/06/2020 08:34

Black the people he sold it to, or did it for I doubt would be the kind to go to the the police.

SuperSleepyBaby · 10/06/2020 08:43

I feel so sad for her and her family. So sad there are people cruel enough to want to hurt a little child - and so sad about the trolls targeting the McCanns. I keep having to remind myself that most people in the world are good, I hope.

Blackbear19 · 10/06/2020 08:53

Swift I'm more thinking about a "being helpful with enquiries" sort of telling police hoping for a reduced sentence for their own misdeeds. Or police coming across it as they go through images on ceased computers and stuff.

I'm not so much thinking about someone rocking up on a Monday morning "look what I downloaded on Saturday night".

Hermanhessescat · 10/06/2020 08:57

The Clement Freud story was really disturbing. The allegations about him didn’t become public until 2016 I think. He seemingly contacted the McCanns by letter 2 months after madeleines disappearance. They were invited to dine with him at his algarve residence. Looking on wiki he shared an office with Cyril Smith at Westminster for some years who as we know was also allegedly involved in child abuse. You can only shudder at what the two of them discussed in private Sad

Mymycherrypie · 10/06/2020 09:24

I said a few pages ago that the old London gangsters all have properties in the Algarve. The criminality is no shock to me. The thing I find interesting is that the Portuguese police seem to hate the McCanns for shining a light on it. Not on the criminals for perpetrating it. I think allegations of incompetence at the very least, and corruption at the worst, could be levelled at the police there.

Celebrities like it for the golf I believe.

Iwalkinmyclothing · 10/06/2020 09:28

I haven't followed this sad story closely for many many years now, but after reading this thread yesterday I looked at a few forums where people do. I am astonished at the number of people who still believe Madeleine's parents harmed her and the knots they will tie themselves into to argue it. We all have our own opinions on their choice to go to the restaurant and leave the dc unattended and that is something that has been endlessly discussed and serves no further purpose, but it has honestly come as a bit of a shock to me just how persistent the story that they killed her/ hid her to cover up an accidental death is. I don't know how they go on :(

PrincessConsuelaVaginaHammock · 10/06/2020 09:28

Well they would wouldn't they!

BobbyBlueHat · 10/06/2020 09:30

Anyone else struggling to sleep since reading all this. Especially the account of the lady waking up to find the man in her room.
I keep double checking the locks :(

flossletsfloss · 10/06/2020 09:32

Yes I've been struggling with sleep since MM suspect news came out. I just end up reading things I don't want to read and then feel so sad and awful about how many bloody terrible people there are in this world. I can't stop thinking about the poor missing children.

MiddlesexGirl · 10/06/2020 09:35

Madeleine's face became so well known so quickly that I doubt that he'd have sold any videos of her. He wouldn't have risked someone passing that on to the police or police finding it in some sick collection.

But if he was disguised as per other reports, then the only danger is from people who know the location used.

BeyondDreamsOfBeyondFourWalls · 10/06/2020 09:39

It was also in one of the rape reports (or maybe both?) that he masked his victims too
