German authorities are saying that they have evidence, but that it is at present insufficient for a prosecution

I don't know enough about the German legal system to know when prosecutors have to present how much of a case.

If there are missing girlfriend/s, I hope they are found safe and well.

DigOutThoseLemonHandWipes · 09/06/2020 08:41

@Swiftsseason "a nail left on the bed, his?"

It says her (presumably false) nail but the point is there can't have been much of a search if that was missed (and not checked for DNA as it may have come off as she scratched him).

Szalinski · 09/06/2020 08:44

Oh, yes I didn't think about the fact that the video might only show the victim and not him.

God this is awful. I feel sick just thinking about it

NameChange84 · 09/06/2020 08:47

I think Nicole was an older woman, seemingly married with a daughter of her own. Of course it’s a possibility that NM was one of the “foster” girls but there’s nothing to suggest this at present. NM did live in Praia De Luz with him during their relationship but she was deported allegedly for criminal reasons (or did she get herself deported to get away from him?).

CB wore masks in his videos. It might not be possible to identify him positively from that. In some of his footage the victim is also wearing a mask. I read somewhere swimming goggles painted grey so they wouldn’t see him? He has distinctive marks on his hip and thigh which could be identified along with surroundings. There’s also footage of a girl or woman aged between 15 and 20 being forced to perform a sex act on a person suspected to be CB at the farmhouse with the beam in Praia De Luz.

Interpol recently came into the possession of a LOT of encrypted images and footage of child abuse when they intercepted a paedophile ring. Similar happened in 2017 and before that. So they might not need a “video tape”. In the early 2000s camcorders were digital, linked to the computer via a USB and you could then burn into a disc or download onto hard drives etc.

Heygirlheyboy · 09/06/2020 08:48

Well if she reported those details at the time she originally reported, that surely is good evidence re description and markings. .

Swiftsseason · 09/06/2020 08:48

Oh I sew re nail. A single hair placed him at the scene of the American woman.

A single hair.
30 police turning up and yet no one searched the bed.
Is it a deliberate thing they do to ruin a crime scene... Like the mm apartment?

GreyGardens88 · 09/06/2020 08:52

God that Guardian report is harrowing. What a corrupt and useless police force. Some high ranking officers may even be part of the paedophile ring, who knows

NameChange84 · 09/06/2020 08:57

I’ll try and find it to link to but there is a police statement from the woman in the apartment above the McCann’s who said she heard a child crying for an hour and a half, shouting “Daddy? Daddy?” and getting increasingly distressed on a night preceding Madeleine’s abduction. The crying stopped when the parents returned late at night.

Remember that Madeleine asked Kate at breakfast “why didn’t you come when Sean and I cried?” and had a brown stain on her pyjama top?

Why on Earth the witness didn’t call reception I don’t know but given the details in the brave Irish woman’s account of her rape, she suggests the rapist had been visiting her accommodation for quite some time. Was the McCann apartment also visited prior to Madeleine’s abduction? Is that why Madeleine was shouting out Daddy rather than calling for her Mum? Because there was a masked man in her room?

This is all horrific Sad.

NameChange84 · 09/06/2020 09:01

Here it is;

BobbyBlueHat · 09/06/2020 09:02

What is the significance of the brown stain on her top?

NameChange84 · 09/06/2020 09:06

@BobbyBlueHat Kate had no idea how it had got there or what it was.

Had she been so upset that she vomited? Did someone attempt to drug her?

BillieEilish · 09/06/2020 09:12

I think he liked to leave clues, to make his victims more uneasy/unsettled. He liked to prove, after the event, that he had been there before, stalking them.

Hazel said change was missing etc I think he did that deliberately. Why steal a small amount of spare change? Especially if you were being careful as had all sorts of sinister things in mind.

YinMnBlue · 09/06/2020 09:14

Oh goodness, that victim is very brave to tell her story.
All credit to her.

Noworrieshere · 09/06/2020 09:19

This must be absolute torture for the McCann family. I hope the police are treating them kindly and if they do know for sure then they maybe tell the family privately. Reading about what may or may not have been done to their child and sibling must be hell. I don't know how you survive this without being absolutely broken. I wish them peace, although I suspect they are a long way from that.

LadyEloise · 09/06/2020 09:26

How could you listen to a child crying for an hour and a half and hear cries of Daddy Daddy and not contact reception ???Sad

NameChange84 · 09/06/2020 09:29

Exactly @LadyEloise

I feel like you would have to switch something “off” in you to not be worried for any child that cries like that for such a prolonged period. Especially when that child has never cried like that before or given any reason for alarm and especially when there were recent burglaries in surrounding apartments.

I can’t fathom listening to that and doing nothing.

Caelano · 09/06/2020 10:09

I don’t think it’s that hard to fathom.
For a start, you’d assume a parent is in there with the child. You might assume the child tends to be a ‘crier’, or is being difficult about bed times. You might assume you’d get retaliation from the parent if you intervene.
Also I imagine being a permanent resident in the middle of a holiday complex like that, you tended to hear all sorts, people coming and going from bars late at night etc. Maybe this woman had previous experience of calling reception about disturbances only to be told it wasn’t their problem etc.

What’s much harder to fathom is why any parent would leave their children knowing that two of them had been crying the previous night Sad

And of course I fully expect the usual posters will bang on now that we’re not allowed to say that, or that it was quite common to leave your kids while going out for the evening in 2007... but frankly I find that The unfathomable thing - that they knew the kids had been crying the previous night.

Some of the things in the media are horrific; it’s hard to know how much is based on actual fact from the police forces and how much is the media trying to make links and keep the story out there... but it’s awful to think of what was going on.

If there is video evidence that MM is dead then it seems impossible there’s anything that links CB to those videos for certain, because presumably they’d have brought charges. He’s been under scrutiny for years. If we’re talking about a paedophile ring then there would have been various people coming and going from these various houses and other buildings too, so even identifying a location is circumstantial rather than proof. I really hope whoever is responsible for any of these appalling crimes is brought to justice though I fear that there just may never be evidence that can stand up in court. Combination of at least one attacker being forensically aware along with totally inept police investigations means it’s a hard task to find justice now. Sad

LadyEloise · 09/06/2020 10:18

Caelano
We'll agree to disagree.

WornDownTired · 09/06/2020 10:19

Jesus Christ, I just read that article about the Irish lady and now I feel sick.

A massive global fund needs to be put together to have the resources to crack these paedophile rings and shut them down once and for all. Give them no space to operate.

Also, the Portuguese police. What can I say? They are totally useless. It seems like the Algarve is rife with abuse and we have been holidaying there for years without being given an indication at all. It's time to drain that swamp.

Please do not holiday there. Only that way will they take action not to enable and accommodate child killers and serial rapists.

ButteryPuffin · 09/06/2020 10:33

But think of how a post on here would go if someone said the child next door had been crying for 1.5 hours. You would get people saying do something, knock on the door or whatever but you'd also get tons of posters telling you to mind your own business, could be sleep training, could be other issues, parents could be struggling, don't be so selfish, don't judge till you've walked a mile in their shoes etc. And it's not that those things couldn't be true. It's the inference though that concern about a child's welfare should always come second to avoiding upsetting the parent or seeming interfering.

BillieEilish · 09/06/2020 10:33

I certainly won't go back there. I didn't like it much anyway. They 'value' the tourists, but actually despise them, seemingly.

In this particular area of the Algarve.

I would absolutely never take DD there, as from now, all this news today.

I am not talking about the rest of Portugal. But, not top of my list.

Arewedone · 09/06/2020 10:35

It seems the police are trying to get photos of interiors which suggests they do have videos they are trying to link. It’s astounding that the police hadn’t linked the 2 rapes before now. I can’t imagine how the poor Irish lady has lived knowing they were more interested in tourism than investigating her horrific rape.

BillieEilish · 09/06/2020 10:36

Good God, I have moved because of the neighbours and their crying DC's ALL NIGHT, every night. I was told on here to 'move to a detached house'

So I have.

Poor woman wouldn't have wanted to stick her nose in.

CheerfuIPotato · 09/06/2020 11:04

Oh god so by the sounds of it they’ve got video evidence that MM was murdered and need to know where so they know where to look for her body 😢

Oh no. Her poor poor parents. This is worse hell than they could have imagined.

I always thought if I were in their shoes I’d just want closure but honestly now I think I’d rather not know.

FruitPastillesaregood · 09/06/2020 11:08

If Madeleine was crying for an hour and fifteen minutes, it’s clear that she was not being checked up on as regularly as the parents claimed. This whole case is absolutely chilling.
