@Swiftsseason I agree this seems like the most likely conclusion. And, if true, it’s beyond awful Sad.

deepwatersolo · 08/06/2020 22:40

I don‘t know. There are cases like jaycee dugard (spelling?), where the victim is freed after years or even decades of abuse. I must hope those survivors can build themselves a good life after that. Or take the example of Anneke Lucas, who credibly claims having been the victim of a High Society paedophile ring for years as a Child. She came out the other side, too. So, I must assume surviving this shit can be worth it.
(I still do not think Maddie survived, unfortunately, if CB‘s allusions are any guide.)

Blackbear19 · 08/06/2020 22:42

Swiftsseason i was thinking the same thing. I can't imagine what her poor parents are going through.

Alicia870 · 08/06/2020 22:45

Are any other mums finding this so distressing? I honestly haven't slept well since this news came out. My mind goes to dark places and it's unbearable to relate this kind of evil to my own child. The positive outcome of her being taken by people who would still be caring for her seems so unlikely but if the worst happened I just hope she didn't suffer for long.

makingmiracles · 08/06/2020 22:47

Friends/family say the ex gf is lying low, but wouldn’t LE have powers to track her move, ents quite easily? Like phone records, bank transactions, sm entries and location date?

Lying low also brings the thought that maybe she knows a lot more than just what his character is like, why else would you lie low? Wouldn’t most people want to assist with making sure he stays behind bars, it’s widely publicised he’s in jail so why lay low?

Smallsteps88 · 08/06/2020 23:01

it’s widely publicised he’s in jail so why lay low?

Her own involvement in what he has done could land her in prison?

Alicia yes, it is distressing. I went down the rabbit hole a while back - Franklin Cover up, Dutroux... Talk about being red pilled. I am not sure I always act appropriately because of this - I sure have less qualms about letting my 8 year old swim in a lake or climb up a big rock than letting him go to the bathroom unsupervised.Confused

Swiftsseason · 08/06/2020 23:05

Or she's scared for any number of reasons?the other gf is terrified apparently he will get out and come after her.

DigOutThoseLemonHandWipes · 08/06/2020 23:09

@makingmiracles could they mean lying low as in keep away from the public as she could face a back lash rather than lying low from the authorities?

Swiftsseason · 08/06/2020 23:10

It is distressing and I went through it years ago with this case and all the others.
It's why I always reserve that tiny % of doubt for everyone around my dc expect dh really.

That includes everyone even relatives.
And I'm not ashamed to say it.
I naturally observe and I'm always watching how people look at them.
I was looking back very pretty as a child and I certainly had very mild inappropriate behaviour towards me.
Looking back, certainly. I developed a good push away... By manner, stare, haughty...

UpTheLaganInABubble · 08/06/2020 23:10

From the Sky News article:

... who has been in his houses and can tell us what they look like from the inside

This makes me think they have video/photos and are trying to confirm the locations in them Sad

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 08/06/2020 23:13

Because as Jaycee Lee Dugard & many other unfortunate children who've gone through the most horrendous things say it's better to be alive & free than dead & buried.
And Kate & Gerry are hoping that Madeleine is still alive.

CountessFrog · 08/06/2020 23:14

Yes that’s how it appears

Alicia870 · 08/06/2020 23:17

This story seems to have disappeared off the mainstream radar completely. Only a couple of days ago being discussed on this morning and all major news channels and now doesn't even make the news. I just really hope it doesn't disappear into the archives

Overthegardenfence · 08/06/2020 23:17

I don’t know if you remember Oliver OGrady he was Ireland’s biggest known sex offender of children, he moved and lived in the Algarve and was arrested with a European arrest warrant and taken back to IReland and also the Casa PIa orphanages the sex crimes that took place that went on from 1990 until around 2010 and involved a lot of prominent figures. I don’t know what I’m trying to say I know there are pedophiles everywhere but the Algarve seems to attract them, they must all talk to each other and know where they can get away with it more easily.

Overthegardenfence · 08/06/2020 23:18

Paedophiles

Swiftsseason · 08/06/2020 23:24

Just read the sky news article but dispair that they will ever find evidence or the body. So many rural places there he could have driven into Spain and dumped it... Then back...

Anywhere.

deepwatersolo · 08/06/2020 23:24

Right, Over, it feels like the Algarve is for paedophiles what Hollywood is for actors or what the Vatikan is for priests, or Wall Street for bankers... it is outright ridiculous.

Swiftsseason · 08/06/2020 23:26

Yes over. I don't think remember that man but I remember from the documentary being astonished at how many there were living there and the sheer number of attacks and near misses and strange people about.

Swiftsseason · 08/06/2020 23:27

The police there certainly back it up too

Overthegardenfence · 08/06/2020 23:30

Weren’t new appeals made in May 2017? The monsters responsible for that sick Babyheart Darknet Site that was being run from Portugal were arrested in June 2017 I wonder if the appeals contributed towards that.
God this is awful I don’t even have the words really.

Blackbear19 · 08/06/2020 23:51

Yes there were appeals made in May 2017, the tenth anniversary of MM going missing. But the police must have been working on the paedophile ring before then to get arrests just a few weeks later.

The Netflix documentary was certainly an eye opener to shady goings on.

SisterAgatha · 09/06/2020 01:29

I would imagine the gf is lying low because she has information and has withheld it for 13 years Sad in the face of the mccanns appeals, the heartbreak on Kate’s face, and all the money spent on investigations. The public would tear her to shreds.

I think that’s what I find very hard about this case, that someone has the answer and won’t tell. If she is dead, just give up the information and let the poor baby have a decent burial ffs.

CheerfuIPotato · 09/06/2020 02:20

It’s looking more and more like knowing what happened will be worse than never knowing 😢

Those poor people.

IHateCoronavirus · 09/06/2020 04:47

@CheerfuIPotato

I never thought I would be saying this but, I agree. As more and more is revealed about child abuse the more horrified I’m becoming. How is it so widespread? The care homes scandal (was is Casa Pia?) that pp mentioned. Some poor children just never stand a chance Sad. If anyone on this thread works to protect children, like the police that have to tackle these crimes, you are doing such important work, I cannot imagine how distressing the job must be but I want you to know you are a real live hero.
