I was attacked by a paedophile when I was 12, luckily got away, but I had PTSD for 3 years after that. BooseysMum - I can sense how you felt and believe you had a reason for it. Always, always, always trust your instincts ladies when you notice a person making you feel uncomfortable. I had the last minute instinct which saved my life. I had it again on three occasions in my life, I left the place/crossed the road only to see the men who made me feel endangered having a wank or exposing themselves in public places. Never neglect your inner voice or anxiety.
Re going to Portugal. I've been to the Algarve and enjoyed it. Lagos and Carvoeiro bring back happy memories and are worth visiting. The issue is, paedophiles and abusers live amongst us, everywhere. It is also likely there are more of them in most holiday destinations. Crowds, lots of children, teenagers, tourists not knowing the area create the perfect storm. I don't think the answer is to shut ourselves off forever. It's about being vigilant and reporting suspicious behaviours. The more intelligence provided to the police the better.
