Thanks for the link, very interesting. Seems there was quite the paedophile community in PDL. I wonder if CF was involved or knew about MM disappearance and was somehow taking some delight in the McCann's distress in inviting them over. I hope not.

Bridecilla · 06/06/2020 16:56

You all seem very clued up with regards to interviews etc in the case of Madeleine. What are the best sources to read to avoid outright conspiracy theories?

SouthWestmom · 06/06/2020 16:58

Blue I get where you are coming from. Although there were breaches of human rights they didn't go as far as convicting someone for the original crime?

Arewedone · 06/06/2020 16:59

For me one of the overlooked parts of Joanas mothers statement was the campervan and the large official dark coloured car and German plates. Plus no body, despite saying they had dismembered her body, no blood. blood spots found in the freezer was clinically unidentifiable.
The police suggested they had fed her remains to pigs. The Same conclusion they tried to suggest for MM which is why they searched a pigsty.

Blackbear19 · 06/06/2020 17:03

Surely even if she had been fed to pigs they wouldn't eat bones?
Why was no evidence actually found?
Where's the motivation for killing her?
Did they consider alternatives?

An awful lot doesn't make sense.

JoesExotic · 06/06/2020 17:09

Pigs absolutely eat bones, but can't digest teeth.

BlueTreeBlue · 06/06/2020 17:12

Of course pigs eat bones!
What was the motivation in Baby Ps case? When an adult murders a child there rarely is a motivation.
Of course they considered other alternatives. She was a missing child case first and everything started on the basis she was kidnapped.
There is a lot that doesn’t make sense but some of your questions also don’t make sense.

PrincessConsuelaVaginaHammock · 06/06/2020 17:15
@BeatrixPottersAlterEgo for me it is beyond doubt that little Joana was not killed by the MM suspect; I believe the family was involved, to different degrees. Yes the interviews were a shambles but if you look at even the most hardcore online sleuths, media etc, they all concur that the police work was problematic but that it definitely happened in the family circle and they reject any comparisons to the MM case.
It's obviously up to you how far you want to engage, but hardcore online sleuths and Portuguese professionals who never met the family all being convinced isn't exactly persuasive when considered next to the known flaws in the handling. I don't claim to know who was responsible, but I do know a confession made without legal representation shouldn't be trusted and the guesses of random Portuguese social workers mean the square root of bugger all.

If there were any other actual evidence I'd be interested to hear about it.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 06/06/2020 17:15

Wait, what, are you saying they thought the McCanns might have driven round and found a local pigsty and put their daughter’s remains in it without the farmers noticing? That’s beyond bonkers. I can see that if you had your own pigs it might make sense, but...

BlueTreeBlue · 06/06/2020 17:16

They did find human teeth and hair in the pigsty but couldn’t extract dna out of them. There are pictures of the teeth and hair found.
The uncle also participated in various reenactments of which footage is available online, it is very detailed and you can clearly see he is not being coerced. He looks quite cavalier actually which is in keeping for someone who went for a beer after killing his niece.
They got rid of their car right after Joana’s disappearance when it wasn’t a murder case yet.

IHateCoronavirus · 06/06/2020 17:19

To back up what BlueTree is saying children are all too frequently abused or neglected by family members. In pretty much every group of children I have taught, at least one of them has been a child that I have had to record safeguarding incidents for.

JoesExotic · 06/06/2020 17:20

This thread feels like it's derailing somewhat....

BlueTreeBlue · 06/06/2020 17:21

I think the pigsty in the case of MM was checked not specifically for her parents having put her there, but the attacker having used it as a method of disposal. Who could have pigs themselves or know someone who has. It’s not that mad because lots of locals in the Algarve do have a bit of land not always near their own homes and keep animals, and have informal agreements with people living nearer to their bits of land to go and feed the animals etc. So it could be a possibility if the abuctor/ attacker was local, but not for anyone who isn’t from there including MM parents. Having said that pigs can eat a lot in a short amount of time.

BlueTreeBlue · 06/06/2020 17:25

@PrincessConsuelaVaginaHammock it is the true that the whole case was handled very badly and it is a shame.
There is more evidence available and they have also confessed/ testified in court, in front of I don’t know how many people, so the mother did confess as well out of the interview process. They were condemned in three different courts. When she left prison recently she denied everything again. She now has a job and I hope she is getting some support to get her life together again the best way she can now that she has done her time.

Arewedone · 06/06/2020 17:26

A suspect in MM case early on was a pig farmer who had previously been accused of rape 4 miles from PDL he was investigated 3 times over a few years of MM. I think it was because of an initial police drawing

BeyondDreamsOfBeyondFourWalls · 06/06/2020 17:26

It is frequently the family members who are responsible, there seems to be evidence enough for a guilty verdict, and this was not a holidaying family (all three of the other missing children, and the murdered teen were on holiday, as was the elderly lady), who had the means to dispose of remains. That said, would it hurt for those looking at this guy to have a read over the case - probably not.

BlueTreeBlue · 06/06/2020 17:30

That is very true, a lot of time has been invested already, so they could read over the case just to make sure.
I hope there will be some concrete news very soon. I’ve been checking the news outlets but it seems to have gone quieter today. Hopefully this means they are getting further leads to look into.

Can you tell us what this evidence is then? I'd like to learn more about it.

flapjackfairy · 06/06/2020 17:33

See that proves my point . I know nothing about that other case and whether or not the mother did it. But she was convicted of it and yet here she is rebuilding her life having been deemed to have paid her dues. You dont spend much time inside at all for murder these days!

Child murderers should spend their lives inside . It is the least we can expect if we don't deem capital punishment acceptable in this day and age. Life should mean life ! Just throw away the bloody key !

I’d suggest taking a look at the Peter Hyatt Statement Analysis...... It’s very interesting and may change how you look at the case.

Also, google Sonia Poulton in relation to her documentary she made on the MM case. She’s an investigative journalist.

Arewedone · 06/06/2020 17:39

Let’s hope this really is the beginning of closure for the McCanns there have been so many false leads over the years.

Arewedone · 06/06/2020 17:45

@Henlie there is so much out there. Personally I was on maternity leave that year and I developed an unhealthy obsession following the case. Followed some of the Portuguese journalists to try and balance out the UK reporting.

Arewedone · 06/06/2020 17:59

@BlueTreeBlue I read loads on the Joana case Including daily court notes during the trial and and didn’t read anything about teeth or hair being found. Whilst her parents weren’t ideal parents there is nothing to suggest they killed her. Do you have a link?

This is kind of chilling to read now. Lots of 'facts' still being circulated
