@TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair

Yes I feel like watching the original Pride and Prejudice would be nice. I feel like breaking out some children's films too.
We subscribed to Disney + (for the kids obviously!), I’m loving it. Watched Honey I Shrunk the Kids last night!
BarkandCheese · 29/05/2020 19:47

Pride and Prejudice was on BBC4 the other day, it might be on iPlayer at the moment.

RubberDinghyRapids · 29/05/2020 19:47

At work Driving. I'm an NHS bod. Helped out doing some too, it's amazing how many people you find working on one small site. Last time they all came out like this was when we had free coffee. Grin

Drivingdownthe101 · 29/05/2020 19:54

Keep us updated RubberDinghyRapids!

RubberDinghyRapids · 29/05/2020 19:59

I'm 99.999999% sure I haven't had it so not expecting a positive result at all. But I do think it's important that we test a broad spectrum of people ASAP. Doing it by site was a good idea as we have a range of services from low risk (admin who work in small offices) to high risk (nursing staff from the dementia wards which at one point all patients were positive).

Dowser · 29/05/2020 20:04

LivinLaVidaLoki · 29/05/2020 20:06

@TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair
It really is these things that mean so so much.
After the couple of days I've had my graph would probably be quite similar I guess.
I always used to watch Tropic Thunder when I needed something ridiculous to laugh at.
I'm currently rewatching House MD, almost done...then I'm eyeing up 30 Rock or Parks and Recreation

Littlebelina · 29/05/2020 20:06

wishingchair do you have Netflix? If so I recommend the Good Place. Finally persuaded DH to watch it with me (second time for me)

LivinLaVidaLoki · 29/05/2020 20:10

I love the good place @littlebelina

Its forking hilarious!

SomewhereEast · 29/05/2020 20:11

Glad I'm not the only one breaking out the period dramas. I've rewatched P & P and am eyeing up a North & South rewatch (would recommend - its basically P & P Up North & Mr Thornton is hot).

Cattermole · 29/05/2020 20:13

Soooo..... today I went round to DM's and she was sitting crying because her sciatica, the sciatica she reported TEN WEEKS AGO, is so painful that she can neither sleep nor sit, talking about overdosing on her painkillers because she's at the end of her tether. You know the sciatica that the "NHS heroes" at her local surgery haven't examined and told her she'd just have to "sit it out"...three weeks ago?
Reader, I spoke to her GP and I tore him a new one. She had stronger painkillers and different meds within the hour.
What a bunch of wankers. THREE GP PHONE CALLS over FOUR MONTHS but she's a little old lady so it's all right to leave her sat weeping in pain since March because, you know, the virus?
Had I not been there to kick off on her behalf I suspect she'd have been fobbed off yet again, and that's not OK, really, because every time I advocate for her she loses just that little bit of her authority in their eyes.

GP said can you pop in and see her over the weekend, you know, keep her chin up. How about you do your fucking job.
Hopefully she'll get some sleep tonight.

YouCanBeMyWingmanAnyday · 29/05/2020 20:17

Exactly what HelloMyKitty says. South Korea has only a slightly smaller population than ours. We have almost 21000 primary schools. So I'm thinking they have 19/20 thousand 200 is around 1%. Let's not get too uptight about this

YouCanBeMyWingmanAnyday · 29/05/2020 20:18

Damn wrong thread sorry 😂😂😂😂

99victoria · 29/05/2020 20:19

My daughter is a primary school teacher and was in work today looking after key worker children. She starts back at school next week and we had our 2 grandchildren, aged 2 & 4, today as their dad has been unfurloughed. From next week we'll be having them once a week like we always have done. Its been 3 months since we last looked after them and we went out to a country park/beach, had a picnic, fed the ducks and generally had a bloody lovely day (with lots of cuddles!)

JassyRadlett · 29/05/2020 20:20

Oh Cattermole thats just horrific. I’m so sorry.

BarkandCheese · 29/05/2020 20:21

Cattermole that’s awful, your poor mum.

ilovecardigans · 29/05/2020 20:23

Interested to have your opinions on this revelation from a friend of mine today. She received her shielding letter some weeks ago, has been able to work from home and get groceries delivered etc. She lives alone in a farm cottage in rural north Northumberland.

She has a friend who lives in Leeds, who has been furloughed and is also living alone. He's been bored and fed up to the back teeth, so following her invitation he's been her 'lockdown houseguest' for the last two weeks.

I'm not a dementor by any means but I'm definitely a bit Hmm about this. Thoughts?

Cattermole · 29/05/2020 20:25

thank you @JassyRadlett - what gives me the rage is that I work with medical professionals (not NHS but a partner agency) and them buggers don't scare me. Not everybody has got a gobshite for a daughter, so what happens to them? Do they just get fobbed off with "we'll have a proper look at it when all this is over"?

ilovecardigans · 29/05/2020 20:25

@Cattermole oh God, I'm really sorry. I didn't see your post before I wrote mine.

That's absolutely shit. Your poor mum. Sad

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 29/05/2020 20:27

I think it's fine, Cardigans. If they've been together for the past two weeks and neither one is ill, no germs have been passed from one to the other, have they?

The chances of either one having CV at this point in time are tiny. I would have done the same in your friend's position.

ThatLibraryMiss · 29/05/2020 20:28

Dear Madam,

If you think the virus is virulent enough to leap across the 3m of sunny pavement between you and the passing traffic, do you think it will falter at the facemask that you are wearing over your mouth and chin but not your nose?

No love,

Me

PS If that's your husband walking with you, looking sheepish, tell him that I've never seen a facemask worn as a cowl before. Does he breathe through his neck?

MrsWombat · 29/05/2020 20:30

Today we went drove to the local "flagship" park. It was gloriously busy in a social distantly way. The kids had a real ice cream from an actual ice cream van and they played with a frisbee like they had never played before. It was amazing. The ice cream lady said they were opening the playground next week.

Shut up a dementor on my timeline in such a superior way that DP (it was his relative) commented on my awesomeness, which is high praise indeed. FOMO is definitely the way forward for fending them off.

Shodan · 29/05/2020 20:30

@Cattermole God that's shocking. I hope your mum feels better soon.

JassyRadlett · 29/05/2020 20:31

@Cattermole I always thought that when my son was a baby and had issues that meant he ultimately needed surgery - at the time I was a civil servant who knew how the machine worked and how to navigate my way through it and bolshie and persistent enough to get what my son needed; I always felt so bad for the people who didn’t have those resources and we’re deferential to the systems. I can only imagine how much worse it is now and some of the guilt trips that must be being laid on vulnerable patients.

YouCanBeMyWingmanAnyday · 29/05/2020 20:32

Cattermole sorry you and your mum are having to deal with this. So much for the we are carrying on with the usual NHS stuff they are going on about!

Ilovecardigans why are you bothered about what others are doing and do you really think that the fact that the two of them are now in the same house makes any difference to anything?
