Loving the fact vaccine guy & Gupta were married. Used to live in Oxford (DH worked for various Oxford colleges for years) & the Oxford academic bubble is hilariously incestuous. DH has actually met Gupta although he didn't know her at all well.

Well I nicked the post from here about the council in Scarborough having to open the loos because people were urinating and pooping all over the place. The dementors on local FB page well kicked off. They should go to prison, 2k fine, why is no-one doing this, Visitors stay away. Oh it is funny reading the comments. The fact is folk locals and visitors alike do need the loo at times. Older men can and do have prostate problems. Children cannot wait, others have health issues. Open the loos or we will be reading about typhoid cases.

justasking111 · 24/05/2020 12:31

Who needs petrol my car did 4 miles in April.

OppsUp · 24/05/2020 12:36

This has been an interesting thread to read !
I have been committing a few act of murder myself and I'm a 'shielder'.

I'm sick and tired of all this and wish they would open up the whole country and just continue to protect the shielding.

Drivingdownthe101 · 24/05/2020 12:37

justasking111 we’re contemplating selling our second car. It only gets used for DH to drive to the train station twice a week anyway (he usually works from home with two days in London) and he’s been told he won’t be back into the office until next year.
It has done 35 miles since it was MOT’d in Jan.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 24/05/2020 12:38

I've just seen a story on the BBC about how petrol pumps might spread the virus. Not this again, it is so 2 months ago

Urgh yes, the dementors screamed at me about petrol pumps in tourist areas a while ago. I said well, they always provide gloves, so just wear gloves- problem solved! But no, then they had to come up with something else that was equally as deadly apart from petrol pumps. They wont have it- even when you offer actual solutions to their problems.

justasking111 · 24/05/2020 12:42

When all this lockdown began a lady said can I drive to London to collect my DD from uni. ah no the dementors foamed she is an adult now she can lump it. Despite the police stating that it was considered an essential journey. The dementors thought it fine that she was locked down in an empty house for eight weeks. I was appalled at the time and told the mum as others did to go get her.

Weedsnseeds1 · 24/05/2020 12:45

Happy to offer my services to anyone requiring counter--doggerel to respond to any crap poems they may receive.
I can churn that shit out in my sleep, which appears to be how most of these things were composed! Grin

BogRollBOGOF · 24/05/2020 12:45

Poor Vogons, they've just been relagated down to the 4th worst poetry in the Galaxy.

Although now I come to think about this description, are we dealing with some Vogons in black cloaks...
Vogons are described as "one of the most unpleasant races in the galaxy—not actually evil, but bad-tempered, bureaucratic, officious and callous", and having "as much sex appeal as a road accident" as well as being the authors of "the third worst poetry in the universe". They are employed as the galactic government's bureaucrats.

I'm still convinced that there's Boggarts out there pretending to be Dementors just going for what will cause the most scares.

There's definitely some frustrated Vogons working in the councils' public toilet departments Grin

LivinLaVidaLoki · 24/05/2020 12:47

What I don't understand is all the people tying themselves in knots over people going to the park or the beach or whatever, screeching about second wave seem to be missing one key point.
For it to cause a second wave they have to actually have coronavirus.
You can't catch it outdoors from uninfected people....fucks sake. Especially given 170k in the whole country have it at the moment what are the odds they are all at the beach/park/in bank holiday conga line???

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 24/05/2020 12:49

For it to cause a second wave they have to actually have coronavirus

Well exactly but they constantly contradict themselves. If anyone on MN says they had covid mildly and felt fine they are told they must be lying and cant possibly have had it (their test result was probably a false positive!). Yet at the exact same time, apparently everyone on the beach who feels fine secretly has the rona! You cant have it both ways can you?! 😆

Weedsnseeds1 · 24/05/2020 12:51

As a scientist, I'm happy to confirm that just rubbing a few drops of petrol into your hands, then setting light to them kills 99% of all known viruses, just incase anyone finds the petrol station has run out of plastic gloves.
(Hopefully Donald Trump isn't a Mumsnetter, or I really will be responsible for thousands of deaths)!

AgentCooper · 24/05/2020 12:54

My mum, dad and sister just dropped a beautiful homemade pizza off over our back fence. We chatted for half an hour, probably a good 20cm apart. Then DS ran off to the kitchen and brought out one of his gingerbread men to give them. They’re rock hard and weirdly salty but I burst into tears. Fuck, I miss my family.

Whatsthishappyhorseshit · 24/05/2020 13:04

Can I join you? The threads on Mumsnet these days! 'Should I report my neighbour? Should I call the police because next door have someone sitting in their garden?' What the actual fuck has happened to the country?
My children are all in their 20s now but I'm worried for my son who has lost his job and is drinking too much because he misses his mates. How many people are suffering with impaired mental health? Surely the fall out from this is much greater than any risk from covid now?
I have a condition that means I need an important screening test this summer, probably not going to happen because Covid, and you know, PEOPLE ARE DYING!!
My son needs support he's not getting, because Covid.
All of you with school age children have been chucked under the bus, and I really feel for you.

ThatLibraryMiss · 24/05/2020 13:05

Where is the spike in deaths and positive tests from V.E day celebrations?

There was a bit of an increase in admissions to the Bradford ICU ward the BBC’s been covering, but it was only one day. The doctor who’s blogging there suggested, with grim schadenfreude you could feel through the screen, that it was The V.E. Day Peak but it looked more like a bump on a trend, such as you might expect – the general trend is downwards, but some days will be a bit lower and some a bit higher. It didn’t get mentioned again so I suspect it was indeed a one off.

Well my car hasnt done the milage it used to do but i still need to get to work! So i will continue to use those virus ridden pumps, i have no shame 😄 (plus i love the smell of petrol so i put it in the car s.l.o.w.l.y 😲)

Littlebelina · 24/05/2020 13:07

weedsnseeds1 your poetry can stay, twee poems about sobbing kids returning to school can do one.

Went on a killing spree (ie walk) by the coast this morning and got a coffee. Noticed the greasy spoon was open which potentially means bacon sarnies could be an option next time we head up

TheGreatWave · 24/05/2020 13:09

There was a Sky news article way back at the start when hand gel was in short supply and people were making their own. The scientist interviewed was quoted as saying along the lines of: "You put some on, turn on the gas ring and your hand goes up like a Christmas pudding."

I fear that quote has been lost along the way as it should so be in the top ten of coronavirus quotes.

Willow2017 · 24/05/2020 13:10

Alex now now dont you know these people can tell who has it just by looking at the person on tv or in a news photo. Its a gift!

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 24/05/2020 13:10

The doctor who’s blogging there suggested, with grim schadenfreude you could feel through the screen, that it was The V.E. Day Peak

I read an article in the last 24 hours (can't even remember why or where) and it was an ITU doctor asking people to stay away from the beach because 'we are racing towards a second peak already' (not his exact words but they were the gist). It just proves that you can't take everything every doctor says as fact. I don't doubt he's had a very hard few months with a lot of worry and some very sad individual cases but his description wasn't accurate.

Nihiloxica · 24/05/2020 13:11

Willow me too!

As a child I used to go around sniffing petrol tanks Smile

Mmmm volatile

No, this does not explain anything about how I am today.

TheGreatWave · 24/05/2020 13:11

Has anyone heard from Lilac? I am quite concerned that I haven't seen any posts from her. If she hasn't I really hope she is getting some support irl.

Whatsthishappyhorseshit · 24/05/2020 13:11

Am I allowed to roll my eyes at competitive social distancing and sanctimonious PPE wearing? (Not in shops or on public transport, of course. Just people walking around the park in the sunshine...)

Nihiloxica · 24/05/2020 13:13

No, I haven't.

Maybe we should message her.

Drivingdownthe101 · 24/05/2020 13:13

I’ve been thinking about Lilac too Sad. Hope she’s ok.
