Another hello to @LilacTree1,hope ok...

Willow2017 · 24/05/2020 13:15

Nihiloxica
I used to get out the car when my mum or dad filled up just to smell it.😄😄

TheGreatWave · 24/05/2020 13:17

Can I just have a wee rant though at the companies (looking at you in particular PayPal) who are using the current situation as an excuse for shit customer service. I have been trying to sort out an issue for four days and it is so painful. With all the technology it is no excuse to say there are no call handlers because of the current situation. Angry

theThreeofWeevils · 24/05/2020 13:17

@Weedsnseeds1 - excellent counter-doggerel. Very cheering.

TheGreatWave · 24/05/2020 13:24

Just tried, just said user currently unable to receive PM's. I hope she is able to read the threads though and know that we are thinking of her.

Nihiloxica · 24/05/2020 13:29

Lilac - I hope you are OK.

Please come back. We miss you.

Long before I registered, when there was no thread and the Internet was a dark and dementory place, you were the one voice of reason that kept me going.

You were my beacon when I felt hopeless 🔥

We're here when you are ready to come back.

SpnBaby1967 · 24/05/2020 13:43

@Shodan we're talking about meeting on a local green for some classes. I own a club myself but it's mainly children and I'm worried about how to get it back up & running and still socially distance.

I'm meant to be in training for 3rd Dan, at this rate I'll need to go back into training for white belt Grin

Anyway, took myself off on a long countryside drive. Music full blast, singing till my throat was raw. Feel much better for it though

Willow2017 · 24/05/2020 13:43

Christ on a bike if i see one more thread asking if they should report a neighbour to police for having people in thier gardens under the guise of "i am an nhs worker so i have the right to police everyone else and if you dont agree you hate all nhs workers" i will spontaneously combust!😤
Tbh i dont believe some of them are its just aiming for the sympathy vote/attention

iamapixie · 24/05/2020 13:45

Placemarking in the one sane place on the Internet!

Whatsthishappyhorseshit · 24/05/2020 13:47

@Willow2017 I know right? It's scary how quickly some people will become nasty little snitches. It's like a George Orwell novel. Or Berlin in the 1930s...

DominaShantotto · 24/05/2020 13:47

Kids are still so wobbly and volatile. Don't think mum had appreciated fully how bad they'd got emotionally... she does now!

There's another epidemic sweeping in the wake of Covid... really really shit poetry - usually it's mawkish adoration of the NHS heroes but that school poem is just fucking terrible (and I half suspect written by a teacher to be honest).

I just pray for the light at the end of the tunnel - even if it was a "going to be shit until September and then the schools go back to normal" indicator so people could actually plan their lives a bit. Although then the dementors who think it's utterly an expectation that people have kids and must never plan that they'll be in school so many weeks of the year roughly between 9 and 3 would still be kicking off that no one had "global pandemic and massive political fuckwittery" on their planning list when they had sex initially.

DominaShantotto · 24/05/2020 13:50

..under the guise of "i am an nhs worker so i have the right to police everyone else and if you dont agree you hate all nhs workers"

I got told a few days ago that me hating the clapping because it wakes my kids up was me not showing a little appreciation for the NHS. I shot that down with a "I'm the only person in this street remotely connected with the NHS in that I'm on a healthcare degree and I KNOW I'm fucking awesome - thank you" and completely defused that one.

SpnBaby1967 · 24/05/2020 13:53

I'm fed up with "my neighbour has X in their garden. I'm shielding/high risk and their behaviour is putting me and my family at risk"

Really, is it? Is it really? I assume you dont go around licking your neighbours or their door handles so you'll be fine.

ISaySteadyOn · 24/05/2020 13:56

@LilacTree1, I hope you are ok. You've really helped me feel ok about being angry at the situation and I appreciate it. Thanks.

@Weedsnseeds1, love the poetry.

Nihiloxica · 24/05/2020 13:56

OK, it truly is End Times Shock

Buckfast is being rationed.

Now it really IS just like the war.

MinesaPinot · 24/05/2020 13:57

I've just had a cry. I watched the news, nothing encouraging, and I just had this overwhelming feeling of hopelessness. Can't plan anything, nothing to look forward to and I read an article which suggests the government have got us right where they want us - under their thumb - with the threat that they'll go further if this R number doesn't come down or goes up again and we've only got their word when and if that happens so they could just bring it in without warning.

Sorry that all sounds so miserable and self-pitying but I had to let it out.

Willow2017 · 24/05/2020 13:57

My neighbour regularly has her gc and her dd round. They play in her garden nowhere near me. I dont give two! They are not going to kill me its ridiculous to suggest that they are.

Willow2017 · 24/05/2020 13:59

DominaShantotto
😄🤣🤣brilliant well done.

Nihiloxica · 24/05/2020 14:02

It's going to be very hard to get busybodies to give up their "if you make choices I disapprove of, you are killing people" rhetoric.

It was a dangerous pretext to give to everybody who enjoys controlling what other people do.

Especially as it turns out those people are legion.

BarkandCheese · 24/05/2020 14:05

My neighbour has been having her friend (possibly her partner) round for weeks now. They sit on her patio chatting and drinking tea, I can honestly say at no point have I thought I was in danger from this or had any inclination to report her to anyone. Honestly the whole idea of spying on your neighbours and grassing them up to the authorities makes me feel sick.

Comingoutontop123 · 24/05/2020 14:06

The poetry bemoaning is a bit Blackadder goes Forth!

I remember once drunkenly moaning about 1st WW poetry and saying Wilfred Bramble wasn't that great and my brother pointed out that was the Dad from Steptoe and Son and I meant Wilfred Owen Smile

I'm only 42, it's not like I was ever a fan of Steptoe and Son either!

Spudlet · 24/05/2020 14:08

Well, a bit of hope from our local Facebook page today. Someone (are you on here, I wonder?) posted a link to a BBC article on how scared we should be (which gave a good comparison of how the risks of COVID stack up against other things like driving, for instance, and which I can’t find any more) and there was a very balanced discussion about how a sensible course needs to be found. So I was very brave and poked my head over the parapet to say that lockdown isn’t cost-free and that we need as a society to find the middle ground here, which protects vulnerable people while also allowing us all (vulnerable or not) to live. And guess what, so far my head has not been knocked off by an angry mob. Fingers crossed this remains the case!

Spudlet · 24/05/2020 14:10

Both my sets of neighbours have been having visitors - grandchildren in the garden on one side, and friends in the garden on the other. It’s their business, frankly. It really hasn’t occurred to me to be filing reports or even worrying about it - given that I don’t regularly lick my neighbours, I reckon we’ll be ok.

Tonii1985 · 24/05/2020 14:23

Checking in, hi all.
Is Lilac back?

justasking111 · 24/05/2020 14:24

Spudlet I saw that rational BBC post on FB this morning, hope it is being shared.
