Duckme what about Cannock Chase or Wyre Forest? The Forestry commission have opened car parks, although the cafes don't seem to be open yet, unfortunately

Dowser · 25/05/2020 10:06

Duckme
Are you near a national forest in the West Midlands
Not a place I’m too familiar with.
The one we went to in County Durham yesterday was very, very relaxed with ice cream kiosk, snack van.
True the playgrounds were taped up, but take scooters or bikes
Gave us a much needed boost

@Dowser it’s at least 2.5 hours to Scarborough and I am still scarred by the family holiday there when I was 14 - it rained all week non-stop and I had to wear my mum’s coat. I had my 14th birthday in a cottage with a broken cooker, freezing to death and with the rain hammering on the roof.

I’d go to Fountains Abbey, if it were open.

MagdaS · 25/05/2020 10:12

Duckme what about the Malvern Hills, Clent Hills or Sutton Park?

BogRollBOGOF · 25/05/2020 10:14

We got caught out by colder weather than expected while on holiday last year. The DCs didn't have jumpers on so I ended up zipping the pair of them into my hoodie... it's only size 8 Grin
They must have been cold because they consented without complaining!

longestlurkerever · 25/05/2020 10:16

That German article was interesting but i wasn't sure what to conclude from it, other than with lots more research they can likely get on top of this in a more sensible way than by locking everyone up and hoping for the best. Funny that.

Dowser · 25/05/2020 10:16

Duckme..there’s that lovely park in Stratford on Avon
The one near the theatre that the canal goes through
How far are you from there

duckme · 25/05/2020 10:23

Thank you all for the suggestions, we'll definitely do some of those over the next few days.
My husband isn't a dementor as such, but is 'cautious' so I'm having to slowly coerce him into venturing further afield. I hadn't thought about the Wyre Forest though, that's definitely on the list. I hadn't realised these places were opening back up!

Willow2017 · 25/05/2020 10:25

Morning all.
This thread is so sensible its like an oasis of normality and when i look on the rest of the site i think fuck me they are still frothing like crazy out there!
I was on the bench thread too such sanctimonious bullshit virtuous bench use! How much mental energy did it take to work that into your argument? Loved how putting your hands and feet all over it was magically ok but actually sitting on it was murderous. How do you defend such madness?
And all these weeks later they are still there saying being jammed in a packed tube train is ok as its for the economy but having a friend in your garden 2m away is killing thousands. Even going to a park where 300 people are doing the sd picnic thing is ok but not your garden. Just how???

Wind finally gone here so dragging kids out for shopping later. My wrist hurts so back to my splint, so am going to try that in an attempt to blackmail them out the door.🤣🤣😃 will try a walk too but not 100% hopeful on that one.
I can be over the border in no time and stick the finger up to NS as i go.

Yesterday was crap just endless tv it's so depressingly nothingness just now. Work or sit at home. I miss my stroll around town and then a sit down with a book in a cafe. Simple but my usual treat and i really miss it. I have done stuff in the house that has helped relieve the boredom but yesterday i had no motivation to do.anything.
Oh well kick myself up the bum and get moving...after a coffee😉

Dowser · 25/05/2020 10:28

I’ve just mentioned windermere to dh. About 2 hours away.
He’s scotched that.
It’ll be too crowded he said.
Obviously he believes that there are far more people in our camp than the dementor camp.
I might wait till after brekkie...and whisper Pooley Bridge

Dowser · 25/05/2020 10:30

Oh willow, I hope you find somewhere nice to go.
Are you far from lindisfarne?

iamapixie · 25/05/2020 10:36

Trappedsincesundaymorn
Feeling the same. Doesn't help but you're not alone.

Dowser · 25/05/2020 10:36

Cor someone’s done a number on my dh
Mentioned Pooley Bridge and he said, you’re determined aren’t you?
Hmm, yes..determined to suck every ounce of joy out of my remaining years..yep
It‘ll be packed he said. Even chucking in a visit to Booths hasn’t Softened him up a bit and he loves booths.
I’ll try mentioning chorizo sausage..he’s run out of that.
Otherwise I’ll get annoyed and say , if you don’t make your bloody mind up, it’ll be too late to go too far and we’ll end up at the bloody beach..again.

Willow2017 · 25/05/2020 10:41

Dowser not very far about half an hour maybe more but cant see my teens wanting to go there just to walk around unfortunately. Will check the tides first just in case.😄 Even our nearest country house over the border is still closed completely so cant even walk along the river or woods. Nothing much apart from beaches nearby and ds2 is getting a bit fed up with that. Will need a gallon of grease and a crowbar to get ds1 out his befroom🤣🤣
Might stock up on sugar when shopping and go elderflower hunting to make cordial. Its just starting to come out now.

Dowser · 25/05/2020 10:45

Willow..just leave them and go on your own
Someone’s bound to be selling cake and coffee over there
You can test my theory, the further you go into nature the more relaxed everything is
They can’t close the causeway as it’s peoples homes and anyway

LOCKDOWN IS UNOFFICIALLY OVER

😂😂😂

Willow2017 · 25/05/2020 10:48

😄😄😄

Orangeblossom78 · 25/05/2020 11:08

I used to get taken to Scarborough as well as a child, do they still have the little island thing in the middle, we used to go round that and to the cafe on the front, and to Filey and Robin Hoods bay Smile

Orangeblossom78 · 25/05/2020 11:10

Somewhere a bit off the beaten track can be good, some places get very busy - funny to see DH and the teen Dcs when faced with students stripping off to bikinis and in some cases topless at our local river last week, their faces! Grin

Orangeblossom78 · 25/05/2020 11:12

Willow you are on the border on the East right?... beaches around the coast there there is one near Berwick I think, also St Abbs is nice and Coldingham bay near Eyemouth...

Hobnobswantshernameback · 25/05/2020 11:12

I am so jealous of you all being able to travel
Wales is closed don't you know
We will do yet another walk today and be really criminal and sit on a bench with a coffee and cake.
I am losing my mind and am extremely fearful that Drakeford will change precisely nothing this week and we have a further month of this to endure.

Orangeblossom78 · 25/05/2020 11:13

Beach in Edinburgh last week www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/behind-the-shot-crowds-at-portobello-beach-edinburgh-bcdqf5p9x

Orangeblossom78 · 25/05/2020 11:14

Can you drive over the border from Wales I wonder? the Wye valley is nice

Hobnobswantshernameback · 25/05/2020 11:17

Police on the border. Not allowed to travel
To be honest I'll stay put
I don't need the aggravation
But I feel utterly weary of it all.
If he doesn't relax the rules like the rest of the UK this week I might give up completely
I am really struggling today

Orangeblossom78 · 25/05/2020 11:25

That's rubbish hobnobs, I do hope things change soon Flowers
