@Drivingdownthe101 It's so shit isn't it, something that should take 30 mins now takes a chunk of,your day. I refuse to go to any shop at the weekend now, I get too pissed off with it.

Interesting new paper out analysing the spread of coronavirus infections. Here's the summary:

The basic reproduction number, which has been widely used and misused to characterize the transmissibility of the virus, hides the fact that transmission is stochastic, is dominated by a small number of individuals, and is driven by
super-spreading events (SSEs). Many explosive SSEs have occurred in indoor settings stoking the pandemic and shaping its spread, such as long-term care facilities, prisons, meat-packing plants,
fish factories, cruise ships, family gatherings, parties and night clubs. These SSEs demonstrate the urgent need to understand routes of transmission, while posing an opportunity that outbreak can be effectively contained with targeted interventions to eliminate SSEs.

In other words - having your mum round for a tea in the garden is not going to murder a village of people. Going to a nightclub or getting on a cruise when you're in the full throes of coronavirus might though.

longestlurkerever I was very vocal on the park benches thread, and in fact hadn’t even sat on a park bench, let alone ate on one! I was just objecting to the sheer insanity of it Grin

BogRollBOGOF · 25/05/2020 09:16

Saturday evening was quiet. I walked straight in to both supermarkets.

I love the way that if Diana's death ever comes up, the balance of MN is so anti the mass hysteria that followed... ironic.
Although id that because it was a RTA not Covid 19 and we just didn't know it yet...

Sadie789 · 25/05/2020 09:17

It’s the SNP’s dream to have a hypnotised, inert population. Four day weeks and UBI. Business and entrepreneurship dead. Construction and progress on hold. A nasty old English government to take the blame. Oh and wonderful timing to keep old spaghetti hands Salmond’s trial bottom of the news agenda. It’s like all Nicola’s Christmases came at once!

SockYarn · 25/05/2020 09:19

Salmond's trial timing couldn't have fallen better for the SNP. Even though he was acquitted there are still lots of questions about what Nippy knew, and when. But it was all drowned out in lockdown and the slimy wee man slunk away back to the northeast with no questions asked.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 25/05/2020 09:19

Didn't Patrick Valance say not long ago that there is no reason they cannot report the recovered rate along with the rest of the data at the daily briefing? Why are they still not doing this?
Also Thanks to everyone for being so supportive during my earlier wobble.

BarkandCheese · 25/05/2020 09:20

My favourite way to while away a few hours is a browse around the charity shops and a coffee. I miss doing that so much.

I’ve been shopping in Sainsburys because it’s my nearest big supermarket. I can only speak for this particular branch but there’s no one way system, I had no problem going all the way back across the shop to pick up something I’d forgotten, and no mandatory hand gelling at the door.

Shodan · 25/05/2020 09:20

With regard to social distancing, does anyone else think that (even if it stays in place) it will just become more and more perfunctory until it just stops being a thing?

I think it's already starting tbh.

I went out for two killing sprees walks yesterday. Two different locations, two different people. Everywhere we walked ( and BOY did I walk a long way!) people were just...normal. One or two in masks, a few who stepped to the side of the path, but most of us just passed each other as we would have BC (before corona).

And in the queue for Morrisons, I was fascinated to hear that the woman about 1 metre behind me was cross that so-and-so, to whom she had lent money (£50!) had not spent it on essentials, but booze! She repeated that about six times, so she must've been really cross.

Orangeblossom78 · 25/05/2020 09:26

Germany does lots of testing of mild cases also and just published more info on cases etc. It says only 3% of cases had pnuemonia, most had a cough and cold symptoms and fever

www.rki.de/DE/Content/InfAZ/N/Neuartiges_Coronavirus/Situationsberichte/2020-05-24-en.pdf?__blob=publicationFile

Orangeblossom78 · 25/05/2020 09:27

Also of interest-

The median age was 82 years. Of all deaths, 7,104 (86%) were in people aged 70 years or older, but only 19% of all cases were in this age group. So far, three deaths among COVID-19 cases under 20 years of age have been reported to the RKI. Pre-existing medical conditions were reported for all three.

AgentCooper · 25/05/2020 09:29

Ugh re: benches, I think I posted about this last week but a weird woman freaked out at me and DS eating ice cream on a bench.

I was like, where were you all the other times we did this through the week? YOU’RE LETTING THE STASI DOWN!

Dowser · 25/05/2020 09:29

Sadie I’m so pleased for you

We had another day of normality yesterday in a forest. Now my favourite magic place.
Only 30 miles from home. How. Did I Miss this gem.
Families cycling. People picnicking on the grass. Dogs being walked. Ice cream kiosk open. Burger and chip van open.
Was joyful.
Came home like a new woman.
As I pulled up at home, a car pulled up behind me.
My son, whom I hadn’t seen for nearly two weeks, was on a break from work and swung by to see us.
It was great.
LOCKDOWN IS UNOFFICIALLY OVER!

Orangeblossom78 · 25/05/2020 09:33

Heroku yes what you just mentioned is also in that German report too. Main events such as a religious ceremony and meat packing plants (why is always meat packing, ugh- I read a grim report on meat packing plants in the US as well)

Dowser · 25/05/2020 09:36

Very and Nihil
I so totally agree with your thoughts

I’m so pleased dh and I have done our own thing from day 1
I can look back at this time and think, thank god we lived and not existed.

We’ve had some fabulous days out and really enjoyed the peace and quiet on the roads.

Staithes harbour in the sunlight was beautiful as was Whitby.

I’m wondering where to go today.
I fancy Scarborough but I think it will be a bit busy.

It’s early enough. Think I might go to the lakes, it’s only 2 hours to Windermere.
See what dh says.

Dowser · 25/05/2020 09:39

ShODan..there was no social distancing at the forest burger van. Lol
They need to get the stupid tape of the kids play park though 😡

Dowser · 25/05/2020 09:42

Bog roll
I’d love to have the anti dementors have a meet up in their areas
There’s several on this thread alone in the ne, so that would be easy to organise.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 25/05/2020 09:44

@dowser I agree (although I’m South Wales)!

Dowser · 25/05/2020 09:45

Agree domina shatto

Went to Boyes in Northallerton ten days ago for toothpaste and spent £50
Went to Dunelm this Saturday for a new mattress protector...and I’m now on the verge of spending £400 for a small cabinet and a nest of tables lol

MagdaS · 25/05/2020 09:46

Morning. We’re going on another killing spree to the Peak District. Taking a picnic (or pippip as my youngest used to call them) and going to enjoy the sunshine. I wish other options were available though.

Pertella · 25/05/2020 09:46

I used to do a lot of walking, but walking to a place, even if it was just walking to town to have a mooch around the shops, or to sit and have a coffee and then walk home again.

I love walking but I cant just 'go for a walk' for the sake of it. I've gotten so lazy over the past 10 weeks, theres only so many times you can go to home bargains in a week.

Dowser · 25/05/2020 09:47

Wales, we come down a couple of times a year. Should’ve had our first visit may 3
Cousin lives in the vale. Dying ( not from Covid obviously 😂)to see her new house on the port road.

Dowser · 25/05/2020 09:48

Magda
Scarborough? That’ll be heaving lol

trappedsincesundaymorn · 25/05/2020 09:48

Morning all. Don't mind me I'm just sat here having a little weep at having yet another endless day, followed by an endless week of nothingness. Apart from the retirees I am the only person on the small estate that will not be going back to work tomorrow. Knowing that they will all have some sort of normality back in their lives whilst mine just plods on is just so soul destroying.

BarkandCheese · 25/05/2020 09:50

I wish other options were available though

Yep. A walk and picnic on a sunny in a beautiful place is a nice thing to do, but when it’s the only thing to do, ever, the attraction wanes somewhat.
