Wanted to make the new thread quickly to get the link onto the last page of the previous one!

Delurking to say that having been urged on social media to contact my MP to object to schools reopening, I have just emailed him to say I think schools should reopen as soon as possible (contrary, moi?) and have volunteered my services to help out at any local primary schools. I hope that qualifies me as a fully paid-up anti-dementor.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 24/05/2020 17:14

@savehalloween is there a link? I can't see anything on BBC news about schools, just bloody Cummings.

Littlebelina · 24/05/2020 17:17

Oh dear, this will properly piss off the dementors. Full on ignore the unions to distract from Cummings (who I wish would get his comeuppance)

Willow2017 · 24/05/2020 17:18

Yep i have been on that thread its mental. People not saying hello to neighbours and looking at the ground when they pass to show them how "disappointed' they are in them🤣🤣 Bet neighbours are gutted

thesnoopdragon · 24/05/2020 17:18

@sirsamuel

From the BBC live reporting:

"Boris Johnson says he believes the country is in position to move to phase two of the lockdown easing of restrictions, which would see Reception, Year One and Year Six pupils return to school from 1 June.
Mr Johnson said that by having a phased return to schools the government was acting "cautiously""

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 24/05/2020 17:20

Thanks snoop. I always get lost on the BBC live thingy!

Littlebelina · 24/05/2020 17:20

(Another leftie here, who hates the Boris government but thinks schools need to open)

DominaShantotto · 24/05/2020 17:22

I feel overjoyed that they ARE stepping up to the next phase at least. Sometimes the voices of the doom mongers gets so much that you lose all hope

Bollss · 24/05/2020 17:22

Excellent news! (Not for me personally council are still being dementors - I need to reply to my labour mp who directed me to a website to combat my 4yos loneliness!)

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 24/05/2020 17:24

Right? I am LOL. If they were my neighbours i'd be thanking God that I no longer had to put up with their nosey gossip and judginess.

DominaShantotto · 24/05/2020 17:26

Our neighbour has been doing that for months... because we had a row over him hogging a space in front of his house and then getting the arse on when we asked his builders to move their van from in front of ours so we could park!

Orangeblossom78 · 24/05/2020 17:26

Just bumped into local teacher and GP with their kids in the newly opened cafe queue in the park. We moaned together over the play park not being open. Good to see professionals are joining the murderous ranks

Orangeblossom78 · 24/05/2020 17:28

Interesting about the MPs. might do the same.

Bollss · 24/05/2020 17:29

I might finally get to break the rules tomorrow. My friend is planning on visiting my garden! Wooooo!

Laniakea · 24/05/2020 17:47

Vogons is such a perfect description of the Lockdown Stasi ... honestly Douglas Adams was prescient! And OMFG the poetry ... aren't we suffering enough?

I spent the day with my 19yo yesterday ... she's incredibly brave & understanding but furloughed & lonely & worried about Uni & part of Generation Fucked. We walked for hours & loved seeing life happening around us ... chatted to people in the ice cream queue, had chips by the river & sussed out the train situation.

Anyway I have a cocktail & am enjoying the Cummings-Drama, it's keep the frothers busy at least. Rock on Anti-Vogons.

savehalloween · 24/05/2020 17:47

That's exciting genie Grin

Orangeblossom78 · 24/05/2020 17:58

I'm not a big Boris fan but I thought this comment on another thread about him was very um, compassionate considering he's been recovering form the virus..

"He looks like a ghost. Or like he's just struggled out of his sick bed."

Hmm
Nihiloxica · 24/05/2020 18:01

I'm not a fan either, but delighted he is sticking to opening schools on 1st June.

He cares more about the children of England than the teacher's unions.

BogRollBOGOF · 24/05/2020 18:01

Is it bad that I found yesterday's Daily Deaths news briefing highly entertaining and quite amusing as Shaps was weaving and ducking his way around Dom's Cummings and Goings.

No murdering here today... yet... DH is finishing off his walk with the DCs... we got 2/3's of the way round before he realised that he lost it, so I've just run 4 miles home backtracking the route only to discover it charging up by the bed. Plonker.

Although I now am actually in the house alone!
I might actually forgive him Grin

HauntedGoatFart · 24/05/2020 18:04

I see Sturgeon is already Dementing away in response to BoJo.

Although now I'm just going to picture her declaiming, "Oh freddled gruntbuggly..."

Both of my neighbours have had people over in the garden this afternoon! My main thought is "yay" Grin

Orangeblossom78 · 24/05/2020 18:07

Underneath she is probably worried that most of scots feel like us and want the schools back and more freedom sooner

BogRollBOGOF · 24/05/2020 18:08

Groop, I implore thee, my foonting turlingdromes, please stop it with the Vogon poetry Grin

thenightsky · 24/05/2020 18:10

Found you! Was worried i'd missed the new thread. I feel I'm going to need it this coming week.

Or, and I realise that this is a wild surmise but it is just possible, he's got a fairly new baby in the house and his girlfriend told him it was his turn to pace up and down the landing for hours last night.

So, how long is this phase supposed to last? It's been two months so far: how long do you reckon it'll be before I can drive 200 miles to see my daughter and stay in her new house without her new neighbours clocking a different car and grassing me up to 101? Since Dominic Cummings "followed the instincts of every father" and has in every respect acted "responsibly and legally", surely it'll be responsible and legal for me to follow the instincts of every mother and see my daughter?
