Wanted to make the new thread quickly to get the link onto the last page of the previous one!

I am all in for the Campaign Against Bloody Awful Poetry. I saw that thing on Facebook and I'm not sure which is greater, its offences against rhythm, form and language or its mawkish Dementing.

Big step forward here! We normally see the PILs all the time but not for weeks, obviously. They've been nervous about seeing our DC even outdoors and we had to respect that. But then they rang up and asked DH to bring DS1 over to their house, so he has Grin

I've no specific murdering planned today. Haven't even needed to go to the corner shop. But will be taking DS2 to the park for a good scoot.

I think the evidence towards Covid-19 simply petering out is mounting. And I'm frankly hopeful that Domnishambles (and three cheers to the genius who coined that one) has blown a hole in the government wall on this. I'm happy for that wanker to stay if it means lockdown collapses.

SomewhereEast · 24/05/2020 14:31

DH & I have been joking that one lasting side effect of this will be millions of Brits adopting a more 'flexible' attitude to the law.

Drivingdownthe101 · 24/05/2020 14:33

For me, the best (by best, I mean worst) thing about that poem is that they’ve called the best friend ‘Sue’. Because it fits in with their horrific rhymes. How many school age kids do you think are called Sue?!

justasking111 · 24/05/2020 14:33

Well Boris may have some news soon for England, tweedle dee and tweedle dum in Wales in Scotland will not be happy and will bang the lock down drum again.

Bollss · 24/05/2020 14:36

I really hope Boris makes a statement saying part time schooling is bullshit and Nicola has clearly lost her mind.

justasking111 · 24/05/2020 14:38

Just checked Wales does not get an update till Tuesday, bank holiday doncha know. Angry

Bollss · 24/05/2020 14:38

I also hope Nicola realises she's lost her sodding mind and knocks blended learning in the head for the sake of those of you in Scotland!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 24/05/2020 14:41

Loved that BBC article about how scared we should actually be.

Thought about adding it to a current thread on BBQ attendance and the morality thereof.

justasking111 · 24/05/2020 14:44

I just posted it on my FB page, await comments.

Weedsnseeds1 · 24/05/2020 14:48

Drivingdownthe101 quite!
The dreadful-
Miss stayed back while she wiped me clean
Why is she scared of me?

Simy doesn't scan.
I would have used
Miss hosed me with ammonia spray
And now I smell of pee

A huge improvement, I think.

Weedsnseeds1 · 24/05/2020 14:49

Simply

DrearyWallAntler · 24/05/2020 14:50

It's worth knowing that the standard parking bay size is 4.8m x2.4m, should you find yourself in a queue argument about social distancing.

(I expected better of a waitrose queue)

justasking111 · 24/05/2020 14:50

UK deaths yesterday

England 147. Wales 7, Scotland 9 Northern Ireland 1 = 164.

The figures will go up if history is anything to go by when outside hospital settings are counted.

DrearyWallAntler · 24/05/2020 14:53

I have also just watched in bemusement as a chap tried putting a folding bike in his boot... Without folding it down.

The huffing as he tried to fold his seats down was as impressive as it was unnecessary

justasking111 · 24/05/2020 14:55

Our local rag Daily Post is having the vapours because 32 tested positive yesterday (rolls eyes)

Spudlet · 24/05/2020 14:56

Domnishambles. That is the best thing I’ve read today, hands down. It’s just 👌🤣

DominaShantotto · 24/05/2020 14:59

Frigging Newsround is running a feature on how to make face masks for kiddies like some kind of dystopian Blue Peter episode (or Charlie Brooker the other week for those who saw that)!

DD2 refusing to play in the garden again because of flying things (the virus/fly confusion thing kicking in again).

DominaShantotto · 24/05/2020 14:59

Domnishambles. That is the best thing I’ve read today, hands down.

Can I also suggest Cummbulbumble?

KaronAVyrus · 24/05/2020 15:02

Just checking in. Been to B&Q so who knows how many I’ve slaughtered. On the plus side I did buy some nice plants.

justasking111 · 24/05/2020 15:03

OH being a bit dementor this afternoon, deaths high he said 4 in North Wales. Give me strength, he ought to avoid FB.

MinnieMountain · 24/05/2020 15:13

Following on from Lady Whiteadder, this Monty Python sketch also captures the dementor spirit well: m.youtube.com/watch?v=VKHFZBUTA4k

DH is justifying my non-socially distanced play dates with "friend is a key worker, so anything nice we can do for her is fine". Ok my sweet, whatever it takes (I'd do it anyway).

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 24/05/2020 15:23

Ah, I think I just lost my closest friend to this rubbish.

Said friend has a disability and clearly feels very vulnerable about people talking about this virus mainly killing the old and unwell. Which I get - it's horrible to think about society not valuing you and thinking you're collateral damage (which is not most peoples' position, I don't think, in reality). Except I've now seen her posting on someone else's FB wall about me (without mentioning names) which talks about me embracing right wing stuff and thinking I'm a victim when I'm not and not caring about the vulnerable who are going to die.

And it's made me bloody cross. It's not black and white. Lots of people are suffering very badly as a result of lockdown and they are entitled to do so. It's not all about the virus. Why do mental health problems suddenly not matter? Why are people who are at breaking point with lock down deemed selfish?

I am just so angry she's talking about me in such an obvious way and misrepresenting what I'm actually saying. It's not how you handle things if someone is your friend.

Greendayz · 24/05/2020 15:30

Very glad to have found these threads! I've got one old friend who is thinking just like me about everything, but am in danger of losing several others who are all convinced we need to stay in full lockdown until there's a vaccine (and at the same time, aware that may never happen)

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 24/05/2020 15:32

@Theadventuresofthewishingchair - Mental health should matter. I'm on the edge or past it most of the time now as there seems to be no end in sight in Wales. Usually I'm positive, but this constant panic and willingness to give up on everything else except CV is really getting to me. Your friend is being very unfair. Hopefully you can come back from it when this is all over.

Greendayz · 24/05/2020 15:34

Sorry to hear that wishingchair It's really odd how you can find people you thought you agreed with on so many things have such different ideas on the rights and wrongs of lockdown isn't it? I have a regular catch up with some friends by zoom each week and and wondering whether to start making excuses to miss it, as I don't want to fall out with them, but think they're not seeing the bigger picture really.
