I absolutely love Stickman. DD is obsessed with it and loves wearing the costume. I also like paper dolls though I well up every time I read it.
I don’t like Tabby McTat. I just can’t get the rhyme right!

I don't like
The Smoos and the Smeds
or
The Ugly Five

I also think she missed punctuation in The Snail and the Whale. I always read it as
A snail? A snail!
instead of
A snail, a snail

If you add in that punctuation it's my favourite phrase she's written.

I like
Sharing a Shell.
Jack and the Flum Flum Tree is my favourite book to read to my class

Overthought this much?!

Dinosforall · 23/05/2020 13:39

*16PeppaisaBitch

I hate smartest giant because scarf and giraffe don't rhyme. Love room on a broom.*

I often wonder how many rhymes there are that only work in some accents...

PuppyMonkey · 23/05/2020 13:39

Tiddler, Tiddler, Tiddler

LuxLuxLux84 · 23/05/2020 13:40

Room on the Broom is my favourite
The snail and the whale is bore.

TypicalMeBreakMyTypicalRules · 23/05/2020 13:41

The Detective Dog is my fave

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 23/05/2020 13:41

Snail and the Whale, and Night Monkey Day Monkey.

The Highway Rat is my least fave but only because it repeats the "chorus". I know why they do it. But I don't like it.

riotlady · 23/05/2020 13:42

@PeppaisaBitch they do if you read it in a cockney accent 😂

My favourite is probably the Gruffalo because I like doing all the voices. Quite fond of Tabby Mctat.

Least favourite is What The Ladybird Heard, so repetitive and the bit about what route the robbers are going to take is so boring

Lottieskeeper · 23/05/2020 13:42

My favourite is Charlie Cooks favourite book. Just loves the way it finishes back at the start. My daughters favourite is Highway Rat. She misses the point moral of the story and thinks stealing treats from others is a great idea.

Neither of us like Tabby McTat. I find it really doesn't read aloud well and we both find it boring.

Blankiefan · 23/05/2020 13:45

I love Paper Doĺls and like Zog.

I'm not as keen on the most recent ones. They feel a bit churned out. Like the Julia Donaldson retirement fund needs bolstered.

Hercwasonaroll · 23/05/2020 13:45

I love tiddler, it's my absolute favourite by miles. It really works with my accent though.

The ugly five has grown on me.

I love the actual song for a squash and a squeeze but the book isn't as good. I think she writes with a rhythm/melody in mind and they work for different people.

My least favourite is Zog.

AllForAnEasyLife · 23/05/2020 13:45

The scarecrows wedding is my favourite!

Followed by..

The singing mermaid
Monkey Puzzle
Room on the broom

Thatsnotmygruffalo · 23/05/2020 13:49

We love most of them ... but you could probably guess that from my user name :)

Not really keen on The Ugly Five or Charlie Cook if I was pushed to choose.

We’ve downloaded a bunch of the audiobooks from audible. Such a life saver not having to read them all everyday.

We have a wee toy Gruffalo Mouse and when reading The Gruffalos Child we use our phone flashlight to create a huge mouse shadow on the wall! It’s pretty great

Julia is putting wee videos on The Gruffalo Facebook page of her reading the books and the illustrators doing a sketch. Really sweet

Wafflehouse · 23/05/2020 13:50

At the moment I like Sugarlump and the Unicorn and The Girl, The Bear and the Magic Shoes, because they haven’t been as exhausted in this house as some of the others.

Ds brought The Scarecrows Wedding home from preschool years ago and I remember hating it, one of them lights a cigarette at one point!? I’ve never bothered reading it again, it might not have been that bad but I just remember thinking it was a really odd thing to put in a children’s book.

PorpentiaScamander · 23/05/2020 13:50

Love Monkey Puzzle, The Gruffalo and Room on the Broom. Oh and Stickman

Haven't read a lot of the 'newer' ones as DC are too old though.
The stage show of Room on the Broom is brilliant. And Julia Donaldson and her husband (Mr Donaldson?) Are lovely!

NotMyUsualNameNoSiree · 23/05/2020 13:54

Love Paperdolls.

I like most of them.

But the Smartest Giant in Town and Monkey Puzzle can do one!

Happyelfjokeday · 23/05/2020 14:02

I agree I can never get Tabby McTat rhythm right and therefore don’t like it. Ugly Five and Smeds and Smoos not a fan either.
Room on a Broom and Paper Dolls (emotional!) are favs. Also Rosie’s Hat which we have as a board book

Growingboys · 23/05/2020 14:02

I love Highway Rat.

I hate Superworm

17caterpillars1mouse · 23/05/2020 14:13

I love you Superworm and stockman. Least favourite is monkey puzzle

Subordinateclause · 23/05/2020 14:17

I like Stickman. Tiddler has grown on me. The Treasury of Songs is disappointing and the singing/music on the CD that accompanies it, performed by JD and her husband, is truly appalling!

weepingwillow22 · 23/05/2020 14:19

Favourite Room on the Broom

Least favouite The Ugly Five

MissFlite · 23/05/2020 14:23

Very hard to pick but The Snail and the Whale is my favourite I think.

Not keen on Superworm or Charlie Cook's Favourite Book but I think i'm missing something with that one as lots of people seem to love it.

Msfoxy17 · 23/05/2020 14:26

Stickman is also our favourite - though saw the film before reading the book. Not sure how anyone couldn't like most of her books really. They're fab!
Not so keen on Smartest Giant...

TeaAddict235 · 23/05/2020 14:29

Love Zog & The highway Rat & the ugly 5

Hate The smartest Giant in town and the penultimately boring Rosie's hat.

monsterific · 23/05/2020 15:42

Love monkey puzzle and superworm really don't like tiddler or the smartest giant in town

BertieBotts · 23/05/2020 15:45

Love Stick man.

We have a weird one xalled Troll that I avoid reading. It's so dull and the story doesn't make sense.
